I'm not sure the Queen would have wanted things cancelled.

Anyone know if the inter counties athletic championship for u17 in Oxford tomorrow is going ahead?

OP posts:

The queen gave us 2 bank holidays for the platty jubes just a few months ago. Doesn't that compensates a little inconvenience for a week or so.

If there is an extra day off for mourning for the funeral people wont be so quick to complain.

No because the bank holidays were an inconvenience. I'd rather go away and have time off when I want to, not when the government decides I should.

Hambledy · 09/09/2022 14:23

They were in half term anyway which is the worst time to have holiday.

And sorry op, I hope it’s running. My dcs do loads of sporting competitions and I’d be fucking FURIOUS if someone cancelled it for this.

@Oldrockingchair If something as minor as this would make you 'fucking FURIOUS' then I really think you should seek help with your anger issues!

Daria32 · 09/09/2022 14:33

All grass roots football and rugby have been cancelled this weekend. My daughters swimming comp is going to decide by tonight, but I presume it will be.
Tbh, though it’s v sad, she lived til 96 years old and worked up until the end. My children understand it’s sad but the fact she lived such a long life is fairly comforting to them iykwim

BeetrootBeetrootGhali · 09/09/2022 09:58

I know for a fact that the Queen said the first thing she wanted cancelled was the inter counties athletic championship for u17 in Oxford.

Soz.

That made me laugh out loud!

Oldrockingchair - You hate the world because of cancelled kids TV? That's a very extreme reaction.

I presume oldrockingchair has a lot of other stuff going on in her life that is getting her down. That can make resilience really low.

Can someone find out if the St Agnes church supper is going ahead and let me know. Ta.

It is, but it has been changed to fancy dress. Animal costumes.

Wonnle · 09/09/2022 14:44

Haven't you heard everything is cancelled/closed for at least a month because the bandwagon has started rolling

Skodacool · 09/09/2022 14:46

OldPot · 09/09/2022 10:01

My child is recovering from cancer and will be gutted if it's cancelled. It's been a tough time for youngsters with COVID cancelling everything. But please do go ahead and have a good laugh

That’s what I would call below the belt drip feeding.

user1471457751 · 09/09/2022 14:47

@workinitout wasn't it European football last night rather than Premier league? All EPL matches this weekend have been postponed.

Jumbojem · 09/09/2022 14:50

My other half says English Athletics have issued advice which says it is the event’s decision. OP - hope it goes ahead for your child. I haven’t read the full thread as the first few sarcastic posts put me off reading any more so don’t know if you’ve heard yet.

skippy67 · 09/09/2022 15:01

Grass roots netball still going ahead though. Seems to just be random as to what is cancelled and what isn't.

Testina · 09/09/2022 15:02

Cosycover · 09/09/2022 09:31

Im sure there are loads of people on here who keep up to date with the Inter countries athletic championship for u17s at Oxford.

😭

FourChimneys · 09/09/2022 15:14

The small event I ran this morning went ahead as planned. Only about 25 people but nobody queried it, nobody cancelled and the queen didn't get a mention as far as I know.

Foronenightonly01 · 09/09/2022 15:20

All my kids sports matches have been cancelled - first ones of the season, first proper year back after covid ruined everything. If they want a day to stop everything make it the day of the funeral. I cried when I heard of the Queen’s passing and due respect must be paid, but not by cancelling kids sports.

SnowDear · 09/09/2022 15:22

imagine thinking mumsnet would know the answer to your very niche question 🤦🏾‍♀️😆

Grin

Good to know. No-one would want to turn up, not having dressed up. You'd feel a right fool wouldn't you ?

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 09/09/2022 16:00

I'm praying my ds's 11+ isn't cancelled on 19 September. Down as first possible day for the funeral and he's worked so hard for it and needs to get it taken now. I know it's not the be all and end all but it is for my 10 year old!!!!!

IcedOatLatte · 09/09/2022 16:03

skippy67 · 09/09/2022 15:01

Grass roots netball still going ahead though. Seems to just be random as to what is cancelled and what isn't.

Of course it's random, you didnt expect a 217 volume royal tome setting out the protocol for every conceivable event did you?

Fenella123 · 09/09/2022 16:36

OP if the local club your kid is competing for hasn't told you, I imagine it's still on.

Brasschamberstick · 09/09/2022 16:39

What's with the nasty sarcasm?

dontgobaconmyheart · 09/09/2022 16:42

That was rather (extremely) niche OP? Of course it is very sad that there is illness involved and I'm sure all here can sympathise with you and your DC and certainly don't find your personal circumstances at all funny- but it doesn't change the fact that it's a very niche event and quite an unlikely thread really. I don't think trying to put people in their place with a drip feed they could not possibly have known is fair.

You'd be better off contacting whomever arranges that and asking them but ultimately even if it is cancelled surely that will be a postponement and not a full cancellation. The period of mourning has a timeline and will end, it isn't like the situation with covid. Hopefully your DC will understand and get to participate in a few weeks.

The only person who really knows what the Queen would want would be her and arguably given her dedication to protocol she may well have supported an official mourning period and all that comes with. No point ruminating on it.

Kerrrmieee · 09/09/2022 16:51

Love this thread 🤣

Brasschamberstick · 09/09/2022 17:09

@Kerrrmieee you find an obviously anxious parent worrying about her kids (unwell) event being cancelled funny?

Jesus.🙄

user1471517900 · 10/09/2022 13:28

I want to know if this went ahead now.
