I'm not sure the Queen would have wanted things cancelled.

Anyone know if the inter counties athletic championship for u17 in Oxford tomorrow is going ahead?

My child is recovering from cancer and will be gutted if it's cancelled. It's been a tough time for youngsters with COVID cancelling everything. But please do go ahead and have a good laugh

I am really sorry you and your child are having such a tough time and I hope their recovery is on track Flowers

I would prepare for things being cancelled because a lot of organisations will not want to be seen to be disrespectful during the official mourning period.

It has been very tough with COVID cancelling everything, it really has been a tough few years.

Chikapu · 09/09/2022 10:55

That's like asking if the number 10 bus has been cancelled this morning, how would anyone know?

girlmom21 · 09/09/2022 10:55

@Oldrockingchair she knows about princes and princesses and kings and queens. She picked up about the Queen from Peppa Pig I guess then watched some of the news coverage with me yesterday.

Shes very 'on it' too. She knows the new King is the Queens son etc. She absorbs everything you tell her.

Rosehugger · 09/09/2022 11:00

Like with Covid, I'm feeling more upset and anxious over things potentially being cancelled than the actual main issue.

I notice we still have to go to work, yet they want to cancel all the fun stuff we look forward to 🙄

Rosehugger · 09/09/2022 11:03

But then neither do I so they probably wouldn’t have even noticed. I don’t think they knew who the queen was at that age, she’s such a non-event in our lives!

I remember snippets from the Silver Jubilee when I was 2. And remember quite well the general election of 1979 when I was 4!

But I agree it's horrible to cancel children's TV scheduling.

I know for a fact that the Queen said the first thing she wanted cancelled was the inter counties athletic championship for u17 in Oxford.

Soz.

Too funny!

OP I'm sorry your DD has been so ill and I hope it does go ahead.

I'm frustrated about all the fun stuff being cancelled too.

No popmaster this morning FFS!

My work told us to postpone social events that were planned! We’re a very large multinational corporation, they didn’t specify a date that we had to postpone them until, and I’m not sure that having a dinner or a few drinks with colleagues is really that inappropriate. We would probably have toasted her at some point. I’m a big fan of the queen but that seems excessive to me.

AThousandStarlings · 09/09/2022 11:16

7 days of mourning have been announced (up until the day of the state funeral). Guidance published for sporting/events on the actual day of the funeral suggest that organisers might like to cancel or postpone events. Look at the Guardian newspaper. It looks like it's all at the discretion of organisers. No doubt clubs will be notified.

AThousandStarlings · 09/09/2022 11:18

sorry I meant 7 days after state funeral

Phos · 09/09/2022 11:18

People seriously complaining about kids tv not being on. There are LOADS of free streaming services. I'm sure it's not hard to find a couple of episodes of Peppa on YouTube.

It is stupid.

Its also not in line with what the National Guidance is.

There is no obligation to observe compulsory misery for the mourning period.

Guidance here:

DD has a zero hours contract in hospitality and has just found out her shift tomorrow has been cancelled. They normally hold sporting events and concerts, but this one was something for businesses.

NKFell · 09/09/2022 11:24

Cosycover · 09/09/2022 09:31

Im sure there are loads of people on here who keep up to date with the Inter countries athletic championship for u17s at Oxford.

😂 On such a miserable day, that made me smile.

TPL · 09/09/2022 11:27

Part of my job involves dealing with various clubs mainly sport. There are 6 clubs due to be in tomorrow. So far one has cancelled due to some of their staff going to London to pay their respects. I fully expect the rest to happen.

I think the majority of small events and clubs will go ahead. The only ones at any risk are major events who are concerned about their optics.

Crazyperi · 09/09/2022 11:29

I’m so sorry to hear about your child OP. Wishing them a full recovery and fingers crossed that the events that give us joy continue.

I see Legoland has closed today - after putting up an image of a Queen Lego figure on social media.

ThickCutSteakChips · 09/09/2022 11:30

Best OP ever!

Echobelly · 09/09/2022 11:30

They've cancelled last night of the Proms - I guess it would be a bit weird with programmes all printed with words for 'God save the Queen'!

Poor DS turned up for his shift to find the park closed. It is in Windsor so hardly surprising though. It will be closed in the funeral day also.

Wafflesnsniffles · 09/09/2022 11:33

Fascinating op that you thought asking such a specific question would get better answers on MN than phoning the organisers.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 09/09/2022 11:38

As a foreigner, it really boggles my mind. Your Queen has just died, and some people are worried about an event is cancelled or not. Check with the organiser.

rnsaslkih · 09/09/2022 11:38

I don't think the Queen would have wanted stuff like that cancelled. Hope it goes ahead OP.

So can't you just call the event organisers and ask?

crymeout · 09/09/2022 11:44

@BeetrootBeetrootGhali can we be friends? I'm crying at your post.

@OldPot I really am sorry that your DD has been so unwell but why did you ask this incredibly specific question on here instead of contacting the organisers?

workinitout · 09/09/2022 11:46

Frustrated that my son's sport event this afternoon was cancelled - a qualifier for entry to a national championship tournament. If premiership foitball can have a minute's silence and carry on, so can grass roots sport!
