I don't but it must be a real comfort to believe in a higher power and have something that gives a meaning to everything.

That's it really.

Thousands of Christians were killed in the Soviet Union for their faith even after Stalin

Literally nobody has disputed that. But in 2013, Russia passed laws impacting the rights and freedoms of LGBT people, and in this they were enthusiastically supported by the Russian Orthodox Church. Answer me this: do you approve?

Sorry but people have been very critical of those who are deflecting this thread from the question of faith. If you want to start a thread on that why don’t you do so. It’s not the subject of this thread.

pointythings · 07/09/2022 12:42

Just to check, are you saying white supremacy is justified because black supremacy is worse?

Quite. It's a bit like saying that the Nazis weren't all bad because they invented motorways.

The part where you said The problem was that apartheid was a bad system but that which came after it in Zimbabwe was far worse - kind of implies that, given that they have nothing to do with each other.

pointythings · 07/09/2022 12:44

@Malie really? The issue of ROC support for laws against the LGBT community goes directly to the discussion of faith. Your swerve of this particular question speaks volumes.

Malie · 07/09/2022 12:36

There you go more ignorance and more name-calling. Why haven’t you got an argument? Do some of you just come on here just to call people names and because nobody will talk to you in the real world?

Calling you a racist and a homophobe isn't name calling, I'm simply alluding to the fact thatbyou have made racist and homophobic comments on this thread.

Calling someone uneducated and friendless on the other hand...

But therebI go, feeding you. You must be feeling fool by now and I have other things to do.

Oh dear so calling someone a racist and homophobic is not name-calling! 😂

pointythings · 07/09/2022 12:52

@Malie labelling homosexuality 'a lifestyle' is in fact homophobic. Hope that helps.

This is I assume out of the new PC set of rules. I suppose being heterosexual isn’t a lifestyle either? ‘Phobia’ applies to ‘an irrational fear of something’. Interesting this word homophobic as I have worked with many gay people and have never had an irrational fear of any of them. Why do you then labelled people homophobic?

No, it isn't. Heterosexuality is a sexuality just like homosexuality.

The dictionary can help you out again here...

ho·mo·pho·bia | \ ˌhō-mə-ˈfō-bē-ə

Definition of homophobia
: irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or gay people

pointythings · 07/09/2022 13:01

@Malie neither homosexuality nor heterosexuality are lifestyles because that word implies people have a choice about their preferences.

The word 'homophobia' is commonly accepted as 'hates gay people for no valid reason', just as the word 'xenophobia' is the same but for foreigners. You know this, of course. You're just being wilfully disingenuous.

Oh, and I've found your poor victimised veteran. You forgot to mention that what he posted was a perversion of the rainbow flag involving a swastika. Yeah, no sympathy for him at all. The only thing that went wrong there was that the poster who originally put up that meme (Laurence Fox) wasn't also picked up by the police. Hate speech is illegal in the UK.

Not when they have made racist and homophobic comments.

You have insulted me and others. Don't throw stones.

You hav3 failed also to mention that the gentleman concerned merely reposted the thing as a discussion point. With 83 burglaries in the yea4 having gone unsolved do you think the police had better things to do than to persecute a veteran?

Hvergelmir · 07/09/2022 12:31

I am talking about the past. Section 28 was supported by the church and they opposed its repeal. Same with marriage equality and equal ages of consent. And going further back still, homosexuality being illegal.

You claimed that lgbt persecution in Russia is a result of the soviet Union. The propaganda law was passed in 2013. Dupported by the church. How does that add up?

Anything? No? Going to continue to hypocritically insist others answer your question while ignoring those out to you? Fucking typical really.

pointythings · 07/09/2022 13:12

@Malie if he wanted a discussion, he didn't have to repost an image with a swastika in it. He could have chosen any one of a hundred better ways. His choice of an image with a swastika tells the world who he is. Your support of him does the same for you.

I note you haven't answered my question regarding the ROC's support for Putin's 2013 law persecuting LGBT people. It relates directly to this discussion on faith. Your lack of an answer is leading me to draw conclusions about what that answer would be.

Funny, this thread was about faith and yet you guys have turned it into an opportunity to attack me on the fact that LGBT people are persecuted in Russia as if I had anything. To do with it. I have told you I have got many friends around the world of different races and have stayed in their homes and they are mine. Yes because I don’t say certain things right I am labelled a racist by you. I have told you that I have worked with many gay people very happily with no problem yes I am labelled a homophobe by people like you not because of what I do but because I don’t have the right PC speak. It has been most enlightening to know where the modern cultural Pharisees are. Thanks!

You're thr one who kept bringing up Putin. And who claimed persecution of gay people had nothing to do with Christianity.

Working with gaybpeople doesn't make you not homophobic.

Are you going to answer any of the questions?

wellhelloitsme · 07/09/2022 13:59

@Malie

Out of interest...

Do you believe that gay people should be able to have same sex marriages?

Do you believe that gay couples, whether married or unmarried, should be allowed to adopt children?

These are yes or no questions so nice and easy to answer.

I'm not going to presume your answers, I am just interested because your answers will help explain the concept of homophobia and how, as per the dictionary definition, it doesn't exclusively mean a fear of a group of people, it can also mean discrimination towards them,

pointythings · 07/09/2022 14:09

@Malie the fact that the Russian Orthodox Church (Christian) has enthusiastically supported a law that persecutes and discriminates against gay people is very much relevant to a discussion about faith. I'm surprised that you are unable to understand this.

pointythings · 07/09/2022 14:10

And further to @wellhelloitsme 's point about working with gay people and being homophobic, I should also mention that it is possible to be a veteran and also be a homophobic tosspot.
