I don't but it must be a real comfort to believe in a higher power and have something that gives a meaning to everything.

That's it really.

Umbrella yes that's that I said. She wanted same sex marriage to be illegal. She wanted to impose her views on everyone else and deny people the right to marry who they love. She was bot persecuted.

That should be um not umbrella. Not sure what happened there.

Point is that she wanted equal marriage to remain illegal. If it was just a case of her personality believing marriage is between a man and a woman well, she's always free to not marry a woman. But she wanted others to be prevented from doing so. She was not persecuted if anything it's the other way around.

pointythings · 06/09/2022 18:07

The homosexuality = paedophilia is a well known trope used by religious extremists.

Margaret Court is clearly capable of managing live and let live - unlike us atheists. As the parent of two gay children I will defend to the death their right to love who they love and marry who they love. What two consenting adults do in their relationship is nobody's business but their own.

Softplayhooray · 06/09/2022 18:34

@Malie i dont think the OP envies people with faith anymore after you've just spent the best part of 29 pages telling us you have ultimate faith, then being the angriest and unhappiest person on here...it doesn't seem to bring you any peace.

Did the ark have tanks to hold all the different freshwater fish, crustaceans, and amphibians?

Aaaargh I meant 'incapable'. Obviously.

What she recently said about Serena Williams was also very unpleasant. I just don't think she is a very good person.

I think supporting apartheid and being a good person are quite incompatible.

pointythings · 06/09/2022 19:35

@Hvergelmir well, quite. And perpetuating the trope that homosexuals are paedophiles out to 'convert' young people is also pretty damn offensive. I mean, I know she's 80, but she's basically a bigoted cow. Though this is unfair to cows.

She actually said that South Africa was better organised than America as far as that wa# concerned. You ever been to South Africa or America ?

I believe the quote from 1970 is:

""I love South Africa," she told the New Zealand Herald. "I have many friends there. Of course, I will keep going to play. It is a tragedy that politics has come into sport - but if you ask me, South Africa has the racial situation rather better organised than anyone else, certainly much better than the United States."

Bearing on mind that the "racial situation" on South Africa at the time meant that people were classified into different racial groups and were given (or denied) rights based on this. Only white people could vote, mixed-race marriages and relationships were illegal, black children went to separate and usually inferior schools, black peoples land was siezed and given to white people etc. etc.

But I don't have to explain what apartheid was to you surely.

Anne Court recently complained that Serena Williams never admired her. Is this the persecution you were referring to?

Yes, I've been to both.

And wow. Defending apartheid apologists now.

She said South Africa was better organised than anywhere else in the world as regards to apartheid and that she loved it there and that she would go back any time. She said it during apartheid there. Here's the quote:

"South Africans have this thing better organised than any other country, particularly America. I love South Africa. I’ll go back there any time.”

I'm staggered you're not horrified by that, even if you agree with her homophobic comments.

So her friend feeds thousands of hungry peopke each week. But because her views on certain things are not politically correct that makes her wrong in everything? Yet you go on about other people judging! 😀

So Martina Navratilova is also a ‘bigoted cow’ for opposing the participation of trans women in women’s sport - something that was supported vigorously by Stonewall? Obviously she - along with J K Rowling deserves to be called out as a RERF according to you?

In saying that Serena Williams never admired her she was just stating facts. I don’t think Serena admires too many people. She certainly doesn’t admire unpires, the way she treats them. I have been to South Africa and America and I’ve been refused service because I have been white. I’ve also met some extremely nice people and taken part in food programs over there. So there is a very mixed bag but the economy of South Africa is now a basket case. Things have become very difficult. Many of the farms are now not being worked

You are hilarious spending all this time being angry with me and my face and then telling me I’m angry when I’m not. You really need a course in counselling to come to terms with your own feelings, my friend. 😊

Malie · 07/09/2022 11:13

Hvergelmir · 06/09/2022 17:57

Do you know what apartheid was?

As I grew up in the era of apartheid I certainly know. Yes it was certainly a naval system which kept one race down. I don’t know whether it was more evil than the system in Zimbabwe which followed where thousands were killed in the genocide by the Marxist government of Robert Mugabe which took over from Ian Smith and all the farmers were dispossessed of their land and the whole country starved. What was once known as the breadbasket of Africa became in need of foreign aid to feed its people because of this mismanagement. South Africa unfortunately is heading the same way according to people I know there. Farming is becoming very difficult. Armed gangs are killing the workers. But of course you won’t read that in the press or the BBC. Sadly those who took over from Mandela have just grabbed power and enriched themselves. We have travelled extensively in Africa and have seen the same thing happened again and again which is tragic

Yes, I judge people who actively praise and support racist regimes.

I've been to South Africa and have some friends who grew up there and stayed until their 20s.

You cannot possibly know about apartheid and defend praising it while being a good Christian. It is entirely against the belief system you claim to value.

Yeah your mask is slipping there I'm afraid.

I hope you're a troll rather than someone who supports people who praise apartheid and people who are homophobic.

What a horrible way to live your life.

Do good Christians, who are adults, really lose their temper on anonymous chat rooms and tell people to shut up? It's a bit cringe to be honest, accusing other people of being angry while you tell others to 'shut up' 😂

Maybe have a calm down and some self reflection.

It’s interesting that the people who were demonstrating against South Africa were actively supporting the Soviet Union and its regime who are holding 240 million people captive in the most oppressive regime on the face of the earth. How do you square that?

I can't believe you've just defended apartheid.

I've reported to MN who I can see have also deleted a couple of your other posts up thread.

Your views on the topic of apartheid are abhorrent and no decent, loving Christian would share them.

I don't want to talk to someone who defends racist beliefs so goodbye.

As I said, maybe self reflect today on how you've let down the Christian values you claim to hold by defending such disgusting atrocities.

I am quite calm and have pondered long and hard about these questions because I have visited all these countries and talked to people from them including Russia. Have you visited any of these countries or have you just got information from the Internet which is obviously biased? You really need to think about things and think things through before accusing other people. You obviously just think out the top of your head and trot out the usual PC jargon.

No of course we are getting near the stage where you are running out of argument as you are calling me a troll. This is usually what happens when people run out of argument and start the old name-calling business. Sorry but I don’t argue with people who stoop to that level.

This statement requires supporting evidence. You're basically saying that everyone who demonstrated against apartheid were active supporters of Soviet era communism. Prove that.

The fact that South Africa and Zimbabwe have problems after apartheid/independence does not mean that those regimes were better, by the way. Also Robert Mugabe was not an atheist (in case you were going there). Personally I think that Mugabe was an example of the way that power corrupts, as happened in the post-colonial period in many countries the world over, and as happens in Western democracies as well - you have but to look at the UK government.

pointythings · 07/09/2022 11:28

Oh for goodness sake it is a well-known fact that many of the people demonstrating against South Africa were left wingers in favour of the Soviets. We all knew what was going to happen with Mugabe and if you want to have a look at the way the power corrupts in African states just have a look at Meredith’s book on The State of Africa. He has also written a very factual account of Mandela.
Robert Mugabe was at Marxist and of course brought his Marxist doctrines with him. I had African friends who had fled from his regime. He was a terror to everyone and that bloke in their power at the moment isn’t much better. As someone said even under Ian Smith we had something to eat. Let me just say that the white regime was not right in that they kept the black people as very much as second-class citizens but at least everyone had something to eat and there were no mass genocides. Have you visited these countries? The problem is the popular press like to get on a band wagon. I remember somebody saying when there was another massacre in Zimbabwe, ‘Well at least it’s blacks killing blacks’ which wasn’t the point!

pointythings · 07/09/2022 11:44

Right, so you're defending apartheid and colonialism. Got it. I suppose it's because Ian Smith and his counterparts in South Africa were good Christians.

You may not be aware of this, but it is actually possible to be left wing and not support Russian style communism. Mind-blowing, isn't it?
