Does anyone have a John Lewis Partnership credit card?

I've received a letter saying the partnership card is closing from October. Does anyone know why this is?

I thought they said a while ago they were just changing the card, not stopping it altogether!

I got one saying it's changing but need to reapply for the new one

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 25/08/2022 18:16

They’re stopping the current one and bringing out a new one but you have to reapply for the new one you can’t just switch

bendmeoverbackwards · 25/08/2022 18:17

Thank you, when can you apply for the new one?

Just done it - relatively painless. You need a code which you will have on a letter or email. Credit limit has more than doubled, though: I wasn't able to find an option to reduce it.

ramonaquimby · 25/08/2022 18:24

I rec’d an email yesterday about this and I was able to apply through a link in email. I’m going to look for something better I think.

LizziesTwin · 25/08/2022 18:25

My credit limit has come down, which I queried and was then told it can’t be put back to where it was until 4-6 months have passed.

seven201 · 25/08/2022 18:26

I've got one too. I receive the letters but haven't bothered to read them properly yet. I need to sort it out. I don't get the emails, so hoping the letters have a code too. Or maybe we should look for a better deal elsewhere.

bendmeoverbackwards · 25/08/2022 18:26

@ramonaquimby really? I've had mine for years and like the vouchers. I wouldn't know where to start looking. Great username btw!

ramonaquimby · 25/08/2022 18:29

Yeah I love the vouchers! I only spend on me 😁. But a Tesco card would give me cash beck I can use on groceries…..

dannydyerismydad · 25/08/2022 18:34

I'm not thrilled about the situation.

The new provider also used to administer the Debenhams cards and a work colleague had terrible troubles dealing with their customer devices team.

The previous providers were always so helpful.

Plus all the faff of changing my credit card details and reapplying is just annoying.

woodhill · 25/08/2022 18:35

Yes I really like JL card and the good customer service

Debenhams provider was rubbish in comparison

Yes this! I've had fraudulent transactions on my JL credit card about 3 times in recent years. And each time they've had to block the card and send me a new one with a new number. I do try and be careful with security, I'm not sure if I've been unlucky or JL's security isn't very good....?

Fuckers said I wasn't eligible for the new card. Maybe because I pay it off each month but it did sting a wee bit.

mynameiscalypso · 25/08/2022 18:40

Are the rewards/points accumulated at the same level with the new card?

They won't like me then😀

Zhx3 · 25/08/2022 18:51

We've both got JL credit cards. Dh has had letters to reapply and I haven't 🤔. Might be time to shop around.

That's ridiculous!! Did they give a reason?

OxanaVorontsova · 25/08/2022 19:50

We had the letter, applied for the replacement cards which arrived today. Same credit limit but the rewards aren’t as good I think. We pay ours off every month.

For the first few months it's triple points, I guess to ease the pain of changing.

JL/Waitrose vouchers are the only reward I've ever valued.

I've not been impressed by the support I've had from the current provider. Including registering potential fraud Monday this week, just when I was ordering a taxi for my family to leave Legoland.

By the time they sent out the 'we suspect fraudulent activity on your card' and gave me the opportunity to fix it and go ahead, the journey was in the past. This changed the experience from an easy morning following a lovely family weekend, ordering a taxi on an app and a hassle free start to the week and 20mins stress.

Instead of smoothly ordering and a taxi appears I had a bit of a mare and it took an embarrassingly long 20mins to secure a taxi for a nine minute ride.

I had every intention of changing to a new provider. Instead, I've signed up for this card with a new provider. First sign of messing round again, I'll not be continuing.

Signup process very simple, credit limit higher (process to increase my limit on the partnership card torturous so I only ever did it once).

I use this card for all household and personal spending, pay it off in full each month so I may not be their favourite kind of customer.

Madamecastafiore · 25/08/2022 20:14

Savingsthreads nope, no reason just couldn't offer me one at this time. I'll just use Amex instead or debit card if they don't take Amex. Like my little pink John Lewis card. Will buy cosmetics in Boots now to get Boots points as not going to get JL Vouchers.

RedRiverShore2 · 25/08/2022 20:16

I'm not applying for the new card, some people have had lot lower credit limits, i use JL card for large purchases from JL so a small credit limit is no good, I pay off in full each month and just use credit cards for the points and section 75, I have three other cards I can use so will use them instead. There is a thread about it on Moneysavingexpert and it doesn't sound that good.

Dreichit · 26/08/2022 00:05

I had a big balance on mine at 0% interest until next year so quite miffed because the lack of info about existing deals being honoured was entirely absent until very recently and obviously no way to shift it to a new card with a likely lower limit.

I moved it to another card on an interest free deal but it has cost me the transfer fee a good 6 months sooner than I had planned.

This also won't look great on my credit record for a new application.

I don't understand why JL moved provider, have had the card for many years and service has always been excellent.

I also don't understand why we have to reapply and start over having been customers for years and presumably losing loyalty benefits like decent limit etc in the process.

A straight like for like transfer would have been fairer and there certainly wasn't timely notice, the move seems last minute and badly organised.

Nearlyadoctor · 26/08/2022 02:13

When I received the email a few weeks back about having to reapply etc I decided to shop around and have now got Tesco cards instead.

I liked the JL points and if it was just a simple switch would have stayed with them.
We buy all our fuel and most of our food in Tesco so will now start buying on the card. Previously it has only been large purchases, always pay off in full so seemed a better option for us.

We had a relatively large credit limit on the JL card so asked for half of that with Tesco as didn’t want to risk the card being turned down. We actually got double our previous limit.

Yes mine is pink too

I have been declined too. It appears its my salary combined with number of children. Have been a customer who paid off balance every month for 8 years. What is hilarious is that although my personal salary is relatively low our household income is mid six figures due to rental income and husbands salary. Only used it to buy food on but feeling pretty crappy about being declined for a card with a very low limit. Hubbie on the other hand was accepted straight away with a much higher credit limit so numbers of children didn’t count against him!!!
