Does anyone have a John Lewis Partnership credit card?

I've received a letter saying the partnership card is closing from October. Does anyone know why this is?

I thought they said a while ago they were just changing the card, not stopping it altogether!

Just be aware if you accept the new card you will pay a transfer fee for any balance you need to move over end of Oct !

MissMarpleRocks · 06/09/2022 17:48

Well I’ve made the application & it was quite straightforward. I’m going to pay the balance off on my old card gradually.

LoobyDop · 06/09/2022 19:18

I won’t be applying for a new card, I think it’s disgusting to force existing customers to do that, so their reward will be that I go elsewhere. Really crappy way to treat people.

I didn’t bother reapplying - I went to First Direct instead and applied for a Gold Card. Lower APR than JL.

Fuckers said I wasn't eligible for the new card. Maybe because I pay it off each month but it did sting a wee bit.

same here, i am now waiting for an application for an M&S card

MrsAmaretto · 09/09/2022 16:52

I’m not reapplying, have taken out that Halifax card which is good for international spending instead. Really just used the card for JL spends and my main credit card is with my bank.

hop321 · 09/09/2022 18:47

The new rewards are quite stingy so I've bitten the bullet and applied for the Lloyds cash back credit card which has a higher rate.

FayeGovan · 09/09/2022 19:11

Arent the rewards the exact same?

hop321 · 09/09/2022 19:39

I thought not. Or maybe it's just that it prompted me to compare it to other rewards cards.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/09/2022 19:44

Not bothering, the rewards for how much I use it aren't worth it.

User148563 · 09/09/2022 19:49

The rewards are only ok if you spend mostly at JL or Waitrose, likewise with M&S card. If you shop in different places cashback card is probably better

i didn't bother reapplying and keep getting emails reminding me to apply now

JulesJules · 09/09/2022 20:29

We had no problems applying for our new cards - took a few minutes online, approved straight away and new cards on the way. Extra points for the first few months and an offer to transfer other balances with 0%.

TricolourCat · 21/09/2022 20:08

I agree with you.

TricolourCat · 21/09/2022 20:14

I was declined by New Day, no credit history for them to view, pay balance every month and no debts. Not about affordability in my case but looking on here it looks like quite a lot of women have been declined. I requested an explanation by phone and will be making my feelings known to the top at John Lewis. I hope they lose a lot of customers over this shoddy treatment and will take my custom elsewhere.

bendmeoverbackwards · 21/09/2022 21:42

Well I’ve applied and been accepted and have been happy with the new card so far.

Sorry to hear of those who’ve been declined, that’s awful.

One thing I do like is the new Payit facility - much easier than having to put in payment details every time or set up payment reference with the bank and it shows the payment instantly.

dannydyerismydad · 26/09/2022 19:52

Finding this new card horribly frustrating today.

Had a text today reminding me that my bill was due for payment in 7 days. Despite opting for paper billing over e billing, I've not received a paper bill.

Payment by app is only a smooth process if you bank with one of the banks the card has partnered with. And I don't. So I had to download the PDF of my bill onto something with a more visible screen than my phone to try and find their bank details to make a transfer. And making the transfer my bank wasn't able to make a security check on the transfer, because Newday have blocked this feature.

All a bit chaotic and frustrating.

FayeGovan · 26/09/2022 19:59

I have this card and i haven't had any communication about it changing over? Wonder why?

That doesn't sound good, normally I pay from my bank account to John Lewis which is one of my regular payees

tedgran · 26/09/2022 20:22

Read the reviews today for the company who are now going to be running the JL card, gong to get a different card now. I think JL aren't as good as they used to be.

MissMarpleRocks · 27/09/2022 07:47

I’m using my old card until the last possible day.

user7845209 · 27/09/2022 07:55

I'm not applying for the new card, it doesn't really offer anything better than you can get elsewhere by shopping around for other cards unless you buy absolutely loads from JL and Waitrose, points are quite low if you shop elsewhere. There are too many bad reviews about the new card to make it worthwhile so I will just use my two other cards. My own bank Lloyds is offering a card that looks better for me than the JL one if I wanted a new card

LittleBearPad · 27/09/2022 08:15

we reapplied, joint account and my own card. My credit limit doubled and was very easy to apply. The app is also fine - paying the card looks much easier, no more typing debit card details.

LittleBearPad · 27/09/2022 08:16

Also sceptical about people applying for Amex instead, they aren’t accepted nearly as much as Visa and Mastercard are.

LaurelGrove · 27/09/2022 08:23

I've just got an Amex card as the cash back offer was very appealing. I will keep that and my Barclaycard for back up, but if there is a hard credit check I certainly won't be applying for a new JLP card, as that plus the recent Amex application won't do my score any good.

I have had endless issues with JLP credit card customer service. No desire to get a new one.
