Does anyone have a John Lewis Partnership credit card?

I've received a letter saying the partnership card is closing from October. Does anyone know why this is?

I thought they said a while ago they were just changing the card, not stopping it altogether!

I’ve just got a new one, took about five minutes (although changing everything over will be a pain). My limit’s gone up (and I’ve never not paid off in full each month so that wasn’t a problem).

I'm second card holder on DH's account - they have sent him a new card but not me. JL have been a bit shit with this, not sent out proper information. Will probably end up just getting a Tesco one or something

I’m the second card holder in DHs account too. I hope the new providers will honour that as I’m actually the one that does all the spending but very much doubt that my salary (not even enough to pay tax) will get me a card. We have always just had one credit card account with two cards and paid off in full, we don’t want the faff of separate accounts when we have always just done everything jointly.

How did any of you add the new card to the app? It's still showing the two old cards

woodhill · 01/09/2022 18:30

Mine went through

Will give it a try

FinallyHere · 02/09/2022 09:52

My new card arrived today. Activated through the new John Lewis Credit Card app, rather than the old Partnership card app

Not slick in the impressive way my new Chase card activated itself but serviceable.

I doubt I'll use the JL card much because the Chase cash back offer is very appealing. Sorry JL, you used to be my go to.

SavingsThreads · 03/09/2022 00:15

Has anyone not been contacted yet? I've had nothing other than a 'something is changing' letter a while ago.

Same here @SavingsThreads and I’m thinking not to bother. As with M&S I’m not too impressed with JL over their mixed changing rooms policy, and had already dumped my M&S credit card for that reason. I’ve dealt with Newday as credit card providers before too, they weren’t brilliant, and the way this change is being processed doesn’t fill me with confidence.

it’s a good time to be researching for a suitable new provider methinks.

Callmecordelia · 03/09/2022 06:29

I'm a second card holder, have had bad new day experiences and make all the financial decisions in the household. I'll look elsewhere too, and get DH to apply. My salary won't be enough.

I'll really miss the vouchers. I used them for school uniform and treats for me.

Theredjellybean · 03/09/2022 06:38

I'm main account holder.
We use it for all expenses so a fairly hefty monthly bill, paid in full.
Love the vouchers so really pissed off about this.
I've only had the letter about card closing, nothing about new provider.
I think I will do some research for best rewards.
I liked the simplicity of the vouchers, though airmiles might be nice

Are you a Chase current account holder? I'm struggling to find ant details on their credit cards on the U.K. site.

Have still not received any letter or email with a code. Liked my little pink card and vouchers for posh make up.

reluctantbrit · 03/09/2022 08:25

It's weird. DH got his letter with the application code weeks ago and can't apply online and the customer service is at a loss what's wrong.

I got my letter last week, despite having the email earlier that he had, and had no problems and a new card is in the post already.

Zhx3 · 03/09/2022 08:37

Dh and I decided not to bother reapplying. I've gone for Tesco and he's got something else.

RedRiverShore2 · 03/09/2022 08:50

It is wise to shop around before immediately reapplying for the JL card as it is the same as applying for any other completely new card, there is no special dispensation offered to previous card users when they apply for this new one, your credit limit and likelihood of getting one is no better than any other card. I decided to uses other cards I already have and if I hadn't had them would have shopped around for the best deal.

I have had 2 emails and a text reminding me about applying from the email so far for this, I wonder what percentage will reapply.

reluctantbrit · 03/09/2022 09:20

@RedRiverShore2

I think you get double points for three months if I read it correctly.

But yes, shopping around is worth it. It all depends where you shop and what the benefits of the card are.

I looked into Sainsbury, M&S and Tesco but we don't shop there enough, Waitrose is our main shop for a variety of reasons so it makes sense sticking to them.

RedRiverShore2 · 03/09/2022 09:44

Oh it definitely makes sense tailoring cards to where you shop, I have a M&S card, Halifax Clarity for holidays and they have just offered some cashback for three months so I will bring that out of hibernation as we haven't been abroad recently to use that. I also have a Barclaycard with points that is on Amazon and PayPal (eBay) then if there are any problems or hacking it is a card I don't use for other stuff, I have found Barclaycard fraud detection good in the past.

I do think not having the JL card will mean that I will shop around more in the future as I won't be able to factor the points advantage into the purchase so will probably shop with JL and Waitrose less

ImAvingOops · 03/09/2022 10:08

I haven't read any of the small print but are JL reducing the vouchers? They were the reason I got this card in the first place.

schmalex · 03/09/2022 11:01

Apparently I'm not eligible - no idea why. I earn £50k and our household income is mid 6 figures, we're early 40s, homeowners with no mortgage and no other debts. I've been a customer for more than 10 years and always paid my bill in full.

Makes me wonder who they are accepting!

AuntieMarys · 03/09/2022 11:51

Just reapplied for mine and accepted.

AuntieMarys · 03/09/2022 12:02

Still get vouchers as far as I can see

That's so strange.

BigElephantsHateSmallExits · 03/09/2022 21:08

Just completed the application. Was a bit apprehensive after reading some negative experience on MoneySavingExpert.com, but it worked okay for me.

Couple of things:

  • Triple points for 90 days on the new card
  • John Lewis is still the credit intermediary when you e-sign contract
  • Despite what is says on MSE.com, the application is not subject to credit check, as only existing JLPC holders are invited to apply for new card at this stage
  • After successful application, you can immediately apply for additional cardholders, and the cardholder information was pulled through from the old account
  • You can still ask for paper statements
FinallyHere · 03/09/2022 21:09

@hop321

Are you a Chase current account holder?

Yeah, Chase does the cash back on transactions using a debit card. So much easier for me to keep track of my spending when costs are debited from my balance in real time , rather than stacking up on a credit card.

MissMarpleRocks · 03/09/2022 21:18

Not going to bother applying. I complained in store & they were really pushing it so I though nah. Why have to reapply? JL have changed the rules so they should bear the brunt. I will miss the vouchers. It’s a shame as I do most of my spending in JL & waitrose. Their loss.
