Does anyone else just adore September?

I just love it every year because it always feels like such a new start, far more than New Years does imo.

A shift happens for me every September, in the past it's either been a new relationship, a weight loss, a new job etc. Plus when you have kids it's the start of a new school year, a fresh class or a new school.

The nights start drawing in but it doesn't get dark too early, it's not freezing most years as the sun still has some warmth left.

Everything just always feels new and exciting 😊

As a teacher - no. 😁

Simplehappyzen · 22/08/2022 16:12

I'm with you on this... September almost even smells different if that makes sense. My favourite month of the year 🥰

As a teacher - no. 😁

Yup, me too. It’s a time of great change, exhausting too.

Rosewaterblossom · 22/08/2022 16:15

Ot does smell different! Having always lived in a tourist town it always feels different in September once the foreign students and holiday makers go home as well.

It feels like everything is dying to me, so no I don't adore September. It feels like the end of summer and the beginning of miserable dark cold days.

I'm not sure why it's new and exciting tbh.

theveg · 22/08/2022 16:24

I'm a teacher and I do love September.

I love the ritual of getting new stationery and getting everything ready for the new term and everything being fresh and organised. Much better than January when everything has gone to shit and it's dark.

I was just talking to my friends about strictly starting and how much we are looking forward to cosy Saturday nights in building up to Christmas.

Rosewaterblossom · 22/08/2022 16:26

Maybe it's the school year thing I don't know, which gives it the sense of "new?"

In days gone by loads of TV programmes used to start in September too. It's like everything shuts off for the summer holidays then comes back in September ready to go!

Perhaps it's a teacher thing then because I can't see how September is fresh and new really.

Rosewaterblossom · 22/08/2022 16:27

I'm not a teacher 🙂

May and September are my two favourite months

Trivester · 22/08/2022 16:28

I love it. It’s always felt more like a new year to me than the arbitrary 1st Jan that I just ignore (although February also feels like a shift so maybe I’m a witch).

I’m dreading settling ds back into school and taking up the burden of homework again so it’s not all good and positive, but still on the whole I like September.

VioletCharlotte · 22/08/2022 16:30

Yes me! September and October is my favourite part of the year 😊

Lightning020 · 22/08/2022 16:34

Now ds has left school yes. I do however really like January.

GlumyGloomer · 22/08/2022 16:35

Crane flies. So no.

Rosewaterblossom · 22/08/2022 16:37

I love lighting candles too and always have sunflowers this time of year which is such a late summer/onset of Autumn cheer for me in the house.

No no no. The only thing worse is January. All the back to school stress, the start of the miserable cold, rain, and darkness, endless spiders and daddy long legs to avoid...
No, thank you.

RusholmeRuffian · 22/08/2022 16:39

September is my favourite month too. Still warm enough for beer gardens but no sweaty nights, football season properly underway but no need for massive coats, leaves starting to turn lovely colours.

godmum56 · 22/08/2022 16:39

September is ok but the month of my heart is October.

giamtGiffaffe · 22/08/2022 16:39

Yes 🍁🍁🍁

Rosewaterblossom · 22/08/2022 16:40

I don't find September to be cold or rainy most years. There's usually that "nip" in the air in the mornings and evenings but when the days are sunny it's glorious! The sea is the warmest too.

No, I hate it being the end of school holidays. 😭 I love how relaxed my kids are over the summer. I do prefer the cooler weather though.

CookPassBabtridge · 22/08/2022 16:44

Yep I'm starting to feel that happy excitement that nights are getting darker earlier, most of Summer is over, knowing that September will be here soon. The last 4 months of the year are my favourite 🖤

Ramble0n · 22/08/2022 16:44

When I see the leaves turning brown on the trees it fills me with a sense of dread. Give me April anytime, that feels like a new and fresh start to me.

DillDanding · 22/08/2022 16:48

Me! The best month of the year, I blimmin' love it.

I felt a hint of September on the early morning air this morning. The nights are drawing in and I am so over this roasting summer.

Mushroo · 22/08/2022 16:49

Yes I love it. I completely agree with what you mean about new beginnings (and I’m not a teacher or have school aged kids).

August to me feels a very meh, stagnant, nothing time.
I love the routine and kick start September brings when everyone is back off holiday.

I love getting an autumn wardrobe out and planning the run up to Christmas. The new TV shows also help, and the weather is usually perfect walking weather.

I like the darker nights with candles and blankets.

September - December is definitely my favourite time of the year.
