Does anyone else just adore September?

I just love it every year because it always feels like such a new start, far more than New Years does imo.

A shift happens for me every September, in the past it's either been a new relationship, a weight loss, a new job etc. Plus when you have kids it's the start of a new school year, a fresh class or a new school.

The nights start drawing in but it doesn't get dark too early, it's not freezing most years as the sun still has some warmth left.

Everything just always feels new and exciting 😊

I do, yes. I'm a university lecturer and I love the new academic year rituals, fresh starts and resolutions. I also love the feel and colours of autumn and the anticipation of the cosiness of winter. I like spring and the start of summer too. But by the end of August I am happy to move on.

I've always liked the start of the new school year.

amusedbush · 22/08/2022 17:02

I have worked in a university for 10 years, so no Grin

In all seriousness, I don't like it because I really, really hate the dark nights of winter and I have a weird phobia of snow and ice. The nights drawing in throughout September remind me that's all on the way again. I much prefer April/May, when it's just warm enough and it's light, airy and the days are getting longer.

Littleroundsponge · 22/08/2022 17:05

Yes, I absolutely love it! I agree about it feeling like a fresh start and there's something magical about the start of Autumn. It's my favourite time of year! 🧡

Rosewaterblossom · 22/08/2022 17:08

Not so much nowadays due to us importing so much produce anytime of year, but I loved Harvest Festival at school and all the lovely produce such as the freshly harvested apples, potatoes and root veg.

I'm a teacher and I LOVE it ! To me September is the start of the year. New and fresh start. Beautiful countryside , often nice weather. Love the pale autumn sunshine .
Best time of the year !

Mariposista · 22/08/2022 17:09

I love it. The weather is usually quite nice, there is a feeling of 'new beginnings' in the air, most people are rested after a holiday and ready to try something new, or go back to something they loved but were too tired to do before. You cans till eat outside and do a day trip to the beach at weekends. Probably my favourite month.

Decidualcast · 22/08/2022 17:10

Yep it’s better than Jan 1st. Feels like a period of transition and new start. I got married in and moved to my home a few years later in the month of Sept. I’m going through massive upheaval right now, but I reckon there will be more clarity next month.

I love that I can start wearing my knitwear and gorgeous jackets/coats.

moggiek · 22/08/2022 17:11

Another teacher who loves September 🥰

sanityisamyth · 22/08/2022 17:11

No. I hate everything about autumn. I find it very depressing.

WendyAndDave · 22/08/2022 17:12

Yes, I love that new pencil case feeling. New year for nerds 😂

godmum56 · 22/08/2022 16:39

September is ok but the month of my heart is October.

Yes, absolutely this. I love October.

GingerFigs · 22/08/2022 17:15

No. September for me always signalled back to school, after loving the summer holidays. I fucking hated school.

Plus as @Ramble0n said it feels like everything is dying. I like spring when everything is coming to life. Autumn just feels depressing. A depressing prelude to winter.

GingerFigs · 22/08/2022 17:15

I sound properly cheery today 🤣🤣

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 22/08/2022 17:16

October does it for me. The shift into pumpkins and harvests, red leaves, dark nights.

September to me is drunk wasp season.

Tiamariaa · 22/08/2022 17:16

I love that the nights are starting to draw in already!

Oh I also love The Proms! I love it throughout the season but the September last night of the proms is always lovely! 😁

YANBU it’s the beginning of all the good stuff! Halloween, bonfire night, Christmas, new year! Summer is sweaty and grim.

Ramble0n · 22/08/2022 16:19

It feels like everything is dying to me, so no I don't adore September. It feels like the end of summer and the beginning of miserable dark cold days.

I'm not sure why it's new and exciting tbh.

Who hurt you?

suzyscat · 22/08/2022 17:21

Completely yes, but also autumn. The smells and light changes and new stationery. Jumpers and coats. I love it! It makes me feel at once very nostalgic and also very new beginningsy!

BearGryllsDad · 22/08/2022 17:25

I agree.

Exactly this.

Tumbleweed101 · 22/08/2022 17:26

Yes, I like all the seasons for various reasons but September does feel like new starts probably because of the back to school thing. I work in a preschool so we will have a new cohort to start working with next month which is always nice.

I do like September and October, when the weather is still reasonably warm and not too dark in evenings.

GreenClock · 22/08/2022 17:29

I like Strictly (as a pp said, it’s a countdown to Christmas!) and football. Also rugby. I live near the sea and prefer autumnal and wintry beach walks to summer beach walks because it’s quieter and I can take my dog.

BUT I love the sun. I dislike the colder weather and the dark-sooner evenings. I find dressing easier in the summer because I wear plainish summer dresses with Stan Smiths or Converse and it’s so easy to get ready in the mornings! Winter clothes are more of a faff for me, especially when it’s not quite cold enough for my big winter coat. I also love watching track and field athletics, a summer sport obv, and have been really spoilt in summer 2022 with three major champs!

A cold pint in a beer garden is one of my favourite things but so is a glass of red by an old pub’s open fire, so they even each other out!

completelyunderwhelmed · 22/08/2022 17:30

Yes! MY CV shows a clear pattern of unrest over the summer period, followed by most jobs I have ever had starting in September.

I feel like I have reverse SAD. Hate summer and love the dark and the cold. I feel like the UK was made for winter and everyone is a bit odd in summer...
