Does anyone else just adore September?

I just love it every year because it always feels like such a new start, far more than New Years does imo.

A shift happens for me every September, in the past it's either been a new relationship, a weight loss, a new job etc. Plus when you have kids it's the start of a new school year, a fresh class or a new school.

The nights start drawing in but it doesn't get dark too early, it's not freezing most years as the sun still has some warmth left.

Everything just always feels new and exciting 😊

The start of Autum makes me feel excited. I just love it.

Pyewhacket · 22/08/2022 18:48

Depressing, reminds me of having to go back to school. June is my favourite month.

Footbal · 22/08/2022 18:49

My two least favourite months are September and October. Hate the whole back to school routine in September and not a fan of damp, dreary, bonfire October.

PlanetNormal · 22/08/2022 18:56

September is great, because it’s the month in which we usually take our main holiday. We’re going to southern Italy this year, for outer first foreign holiday since covid. I can’t wait.

TheCutter · 22/08/2022 18:59

September is my happy time too, op. I love colder days, autumn colours coming in, darker nights, Halloween, Christmas coming up. And uni was my happy place so I loved the new year coming.

Since moving to South Germany, I now prefer October as September can still be quite hot sometimes 😅

DottyLittleRainbow · 22/08/2022 19:23

Yes! favourite time of the year is Sept-Dec.

It feels like everything is dying to me, so no I don't adore September. It feels like the end of summer and the beginning of miserable dark cold days.

I'm not sure why it's new and exciting tbh.

Same for me.

The start of autumn and winter - which I do not enjoy at all

Bladed · 22/08/2022 19:55

I love it and I hate it!

I love it because, as so many have said, it feels like the start of a new year. It’s the birth month of my first born, and it’s the beginning of the descent into autumn and winter.

But those are the same reasons I hate it, especially now that I’m older. I always feel very unsettled and as if time is slipping by. And I think it’s the time of year where you can see one season change into another most clearly, and that also unsettles me,

ellieboolou · 22/08/2022 20:19

Yes I love it, usually summer is exhausting for me as I've 2 young children and the days never seem to end, also not a fan of heat.

I'm looking forward to nights closing in, being able to eat proper meals (sick of salads), having earlier nights and being able to sleep without too much heat & light.

Kids being back into routine, not feeling guilty for staying home, quieter evenings too.

I don't like January to end of March though

moiraandthebebe · 22/08/2022 20:21

I'm entirely with you on this. It definitely feels like a new year. The beginning of my favourite seasons (the 'ber' months) too 🥰

VioletCharlotte · 22/08/2022 20:33

I like all the seasons, but I don't like it when it's too hot. September is usually bright and sunny but cooler than July and August. Also, everything's so much quieter when the kids are back at school. Mine are grown up so I always take a week off in September to go to all the places that are packed during the summer month.

September to me is about cooking cosy food with seasonal veg, picking plums and apples for crumble with custard, harvest festivals, collecting acorns and conkers, enjoying going for walks and the cooler air, seeing the colours start to turn, nights drawing in and curling up with a book, well worn boots and snuggle jumpers, the autumn equinox ....love it!

plinkplinkfizzer · 22/08/2022 20:34

Absolutely love this time of year , kids are back at school so the street is peaceful again .Roll on Autumn .🦇🍂

CharlotteSt · 22/08/2022 20:38

I love September too for all exactly the same reasons as you OP, also it's my birthday month so definitely feels like the start of another year for me.

The weather is also normally lovely - it's like a golden buffer between the end of summer and autumn and it makes the beginning of autumn bearable.

(You can ditch January and February though. I hate them!)

PumpkinSpiceGirl · 22/08/2022 21:12

I love the changing seasons in this country - in my head they’re still like they were when I was a child even though the weather doesn’t always play ball.

September has been beautiful the last few years though, warm and sunny but not stupidly hot with that gorgeous chill first thing. The light is already changing, I noticed it this morning.

Funnily enough I’m not a big fan of winter so you’d think the countdown to it would depress me but September 1st is my new year much more than January.

Now all I want is apple or plum crumble and custard! 😋

I'm with you OP. It always feel like a reset to me, even now my children are grown up and have left school, I get the same 'new start' feeling.

I always do a big clean and stock up on my autumn candles. I have some lovely throws and cushions too that give the front room a more cosy feel.

I love the warm but fresh days and the changing colours of the leaves. I seem to have more energy too for some reason.

I've had a crappy day and this thread has really cheered me up 🍂 thanks everyone!

Imaginebeingarealhousewifeofwherever · 22/08/2022 22:36

Yes I love it 😍 the light is golden, the holiday makers return home, beaches are quiet but sea still warm. Ex teacher so mixed emotions, but I always get an urge to go and buy post it notes and pens etc 😅

AquaTorfanaa · 22/08/2022 22:55

Definitely the new year for me. I write resolutions and everything 😂

Glittersparkle76 · 22/08/2022 22:58

I love September too!!,I love Autumn and winter,I love dark rainy days and the dark nights.Theres nothing nicer than coming home after the school run, lighting candles, pyjamas on,curtains closed and snuggling up on the sofa with DD.I get my autumn paraphernalia out, pumpkin cushion covers, dried flower displays in autumn colours.DD and I were collecting pine cones from the woods today and are doing some autumn crafts tomorrow with them ready for my autumn lounge display lol.
But the spiders...omg..the spiders!!,that's the only part of September I dread!!!!

user73783 · 22/08/2022 23:01

Exactly the same OP, Sep-Dec are my favourite months and I completely get what you mean about it feeling like a fresh start.

user73783 · 22/08/2022 23:01

(Although concur the daddy long legs do nearly spoil it!)

TheLostNights · 22/08/2022 23:14

The horrible muggy or sweltering hot temps will start to become less of an issue from September so this year, that's what I am most looking forward to.

HailAdrian · 22/08/2022 23:17

No it means summer is on its way out and winter makes me so miserable.

Solosunrise · 23/08/2022 06:12

I'm enjoying this thread! As of this week it's dark when my alarm goes off which can only mean autumn is on it's way.
I've never thought of doing seasonal displays but this year I might @Glittersparkle76

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 23/08/2022 06:42

September is definitely a new year in my head - from being at school as a child and as a teacher now! I love autumn too. Not really that excited this year though as I'm back to work after mat leave!
