Does anyone else just adore September?

I just love it every year because it always feels like such a new start, far more than New Years does imo.

A shift happens for me every September, in the past it's either been a new relationship, a weight loss, a new job etc. Plus when you have kids it's the start of a new school year, a fresh class or a new school.

The nights start drawing in but it doesn't get dark too early, it's not freezing most years as the sun still has some warmth left.

Everything just always feels new and exciting 😊

I love it too. All the Christmas stuff comes in the shops. You can start wearing more wintery clothes yet it not cold. Love it.

AchillesLastStand · 22/08/2022 17:40

September is my birthday month and I love the autumn and all the beautiful colours so it’s always felt special. Last year in the middle of September we moved into our first proper home which I adore. I remember last year in September feeling on top of the world after the house move. I’ll always associate it with than now too. A very happy time. Also I think the Bake Off starts in September.😀

FourChimneys · 22/08/2022 17:41

WendyAndDave I caught myself looking at pencil cases in WHSmiths the other day and I have absolutely no need for one!

I love September, the chilly mornings which warm up, the chance to wear jumpers again, michaelmas daisies, autumn leaves. Shame it's heading towards Christmas though. That's a season I could so easily live without.

Mymugisblue · 22/08/2022 17:43

When I see the leaves turning brown on the trees it fills me with a sense of dread. Give me April anytime, that feels like a new and fresh start to me.

This ....

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/08/2022 17:43

I do
New year
New start
New leaf
New beginnings

To the extent that my first baby came nearly a month early at the start of September!

I'm quite partial to chunky boots and jumpers too!

I miss the summer evenings, but do look forward to the newness of everything in Sept.

Quornflakegirl · 22/08/2022 17:43

I love it so much! September to Christmas is such a wonderful time of year. My twins were born in September so it’s always a very special month for me, especially as now I am an ex teacher!

HumphreyCobblers · 22/08/2022 17:44

I love it too. The light changes at the end of summer, there are chilly mornings and evenings. I walk up mountains and come home to cake made with apples. I start cooking roast dinners again and tidying the garden for winter.

I think it was Susan Hill who said that autumn makes her nostalgic but for what she isn't sure. I know the sound of a crow on a September evening is the most heavenly sound and makes me happy. Spring can go wrong weather wise, but autumn never disappoints.

Greengreengrassbluebluesky · 22/08/2022 17:45

Nope, worst month of the year.

I prefer spring eg March and April.

Solosunrise · 22/08/2022 17:46

Me too @Rosewaterblossom I'm counting down the days! I consider it my 'New Year' too. Always feel an urge to buy stationery!

FizzyStream · 22/08/2022 17:47

I enjoy it more as an adult. I hated it when I was younger!

I'm starting a new job next month, as is DH, we have all four of our birthdays in the next three months and a holiday abroad in Oct half term so it's a much more exciting part of the year for us than summer.

The summer holidays are also endless and boring for the most part when you have to work and can't afford constant days out #makingmemories etc

I also have a fondness obsession for new stationery 😂

CountFoscoslittlewhitemice · 22/08/2022 17:48

September is God's own month. I love it. The light is more gentle, everything is back to normal and the possibility of very hot days are gone for another year.
When I was a child I used to feel much better when Blue Peter were back from their holiday and back on the tv. I'm showing my age.

MrsBean88 · 22/08/2022 17:50

October & November are my most favourite months ever 😍i also quite like late April and May.

Forconfessingonly · 22/08/2022 17:52

Love it (& October)

I never lost that 'new year' feeling about September and now I work in a university it is a new year!

Forconfessingonly · 22/08/2022 17:54

VacayingInTheHamptons · 22/08/2022 16:43

No, I hate it being the end of school holidays. 😭 I love how relaxed my kids are over the summer. I do prefer the cooler weather though.

Oh yes, I did used to hate the end of the school holidays when my daughter was school age.

balalake · 22/08/2022 17:56

I do not have school age children. So I can holiday in September, and do almost every year.

limitededitionbarbie · 22/08/2022 18:00

It feels like the start of the best time of year!

The cold, Halloween, fireworks night, then Christmas

Moomoo2o22 · 22/08/2022 18:04

Drunk wasp season 😂😂 brilliant description! I'm more of an October fan but September is the start of the ber months which I love! A freshly sharpened bouquet of pencils too you all 😉

wildthingsinthenight · 22/08/2022 18:05

Yes absolutely love it!

SunflowerSmith · 22/08/2022 18:05

I used to love it and still enjoy it for my photography as the colours are beautiful but I've found that the closer I get to 50 the less I like it.

I can't bare the cold like I used to and this year in particular am worried about the colder months because of the heating bills, also since having kids I feel sad when the warm beach days are behind us, we're currently enjoying a lovely holiday in our caravan, the kids are out playing in their t-shirts and won't come in until after 9 whereas from September there will be less people around here, wet, muddy kids and they'll be in from 6pm.

Not so much nowadays due to us importing so much produce anytime of year, but I loved Harvest Festival at school and all the lovely produce such as the freshly harvested apples, potatoes and root veg.

Me too !
There was always a sheaf of corn shaped bread ,i remember the smell of the vegetables ,and when i was a teenager in my local pub the older men always did a harvest produce sale , they were tough salt of the earth men and took real pride in the lovely things they had grown.

SwedishEdith · 22/08/2022 18:17

Yes, I love it. You can start to wear tights again and not fret about what to wear to the office when it's hot.

SynchOrSwim · 22/08/2022 18:19

I think I agree with a PP that it's October for me as September is often still a bit too warm and getting back in to doing the school run before work and homework and extra curriculars afterwards can be a bit stressful but by October I'm used to it again!

Also I like clothes but I'm too fat for summer! Can't wait to wear dresses and cardigans and belts and hats and gloves and boots and scarves!! I feel so much smarter in autumn/winter.

I also like long chilly walks through autumn leaves looking for geocaches then coming home for a roast.

Carving pumpkins! Watching fireworks! Making soup!

WithIcePlease · 22/08/2022 18:20

I love September for a fresh start and new projects - much better than January .
Summer is a write off with DC home and being out of routine and I loved getting back into the rhythm of normal school days.
Even now they are older, I still use it for new projects.
This September I can get back to my proper gym routine and plan on 2 weeks eating up all the stuff from the freezer so that I can refill with batch cooking for the cooler months. It will be lovely

BeautifulWar · 22/08/2022 18:35

Love it! Nothing much to add that hasn't already been covered, but I really like the change of colours, autumn woodland walks, crunching leaves and beach walks. I like Halloween and love Christmas, so it's all fun until we hit Jan and Feb, which I detest and seem gloomy and endless!

CrunchyCarrot · 22/08/2022 18:37

I love Autumn so for me it's October rather than September, but I love the whole feel of cooler days (especially after this hot and dry summer!).
