Handbags - how many do you have and how often do you change to another one?

I've been having a good sort out and have three bags full of stuff for my favourite charity shop. They contain clothes etc, but also 6 handbags I know I will never want to use again. This has cut my handbag "collection" down to 8 in total. Of these, I tend to use one more than the others but swap occasionally as the mood (and what I'm wearing) dictates.

I told my friend about my "large" handbag collection and she laughed ....... apparently she has around 30, doesn't think that's excessive and is always on the lookout for more to add to her collection! But she still has a couple of favourites she uses more than others.

Can anyone go higher than 30?

Oo this has made me wonder..

An LV Neverfull
A Liberty leather tote
A green Coach Hobo
2 Mulberry Alexa
A Mulberry Lily
A very vintage Mulberry which I don't remember even having a name but is so heavy I never use it.
A Coach Crossbody
A Chloe crossbody
A Miu Miu clutch
A Coach clutch
A slouchy black leather bag from Jones Bookmakers
A Lulu Guinness black neat shoulder bag that only ever seems to come out for funerals
A Lulu Guiness Crossbody
An Other Stories one
An Oliver Bonas Camera bag
A yellow Etui shoulder bag
A red leather La Pliage

So 18. And there's probably a couple I've forgotten.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 17/08/2022 11:40

Just remembered a lovely black leather barrel type bag from Designers at Debenhams about 25 years ago which I keep meaning to fix the handle of.

And another Crossbody from Dune

So 20 Blush

BreakfastOfWaffles · 17/08/2022 11:57

I have one leather winter bag, one canvas summer bag, two evening and one cross body bag. I did a big pare-down a few years ago and generally stick to about five colours in my wardrobe so it all goes together.

Without counting, I probably have 20 - 25. Picked up over decades. Nothing designer, just different bags for different occasions, from a tiny little clutch up to 'really useful when I go shopping' size. Different colours. Different styles - sometimes I want a little cross body bag, sometimes I want practical. Sometimes I want 'stylish' or 'elegant'. Sometimes I want a bag that is a different colour to look right with what I am wearing.

SILdidittoo · 17/08/2022 12:13

Over 70

fishingpaintings · 17/08/2022 12:14

I have three 'naice' bags that I alternate for day to day use and a couple of semi nice evening bags. One naice and one semi nice need repairing actually.

One work backpack that I also use for flights.

Many many totes of various design and quality.

Two beach bags, one of which I'm getting rid of after this holiday.

Two purses, one for day to day and one for holidays / card storage.

I don't have space for more and I don't want to have more bags if it means them being stored badly. Quite happy with my little collection.

Badger1970 · 17/08/2022 12:16

DH goes mad at mine..... I hate to think what I've spent! Most are Osprey (outlet finds), Lulu Guinness, Kate Spade and Coach so not big investments.

Probably 30 Blush but I do rotate them regularly. And find ones in the wardrobe that I'd forgotten about....... I found a velvet Russell & Bromley clutch with much delight at the weekend!

nottalot · 17/08/2022 12:18

I have one osprey backpack which I live out of Grin

MirandaWest · 17/08/2022 12:20

I have:

Purple cross body handbag. Zip has gone so I probably should replace.

Bag that can fit on my bike but also looks like normal bag. Don't use it much

Small black sparkly clutch bag. Comes out very occasionally.

Teadrinkingmumofone · 17/08/2022 12:20

Hmm, 3 maybe? 🤣

RagzRebooted · 17/08/2022 12:23

2 or 3, probably. I tend to use one at a time and replace when it needs it. I have my normal day to day bag, a going out bag and probably a spare bag in the wardrobe somewhere.

I am not a handbag person, clearly.

Sprig1 · 17/08/2022 12:24

None. I use pockets/hands.

sausage767 · 17/08/2022 12:27

A LOT. And a lot of clutches.

I change my bag normally daily depending on what I’m wearing. I use a handbag organiser that stores all the bits and pieces, and just move it from bag to bag.

Arnaquer · 17/08/2022 12:30

Wow. I have about 5.
A big one for work.
A brown one
A cream one
A black one
A small cream mobile phone one

No particular make, I'm not really interested in designer stuff

Oouli · 17/08/2022 12:32

None, not a fan of handbags, I can't imagine having over 70 of anything though!

Gingerbreadcandle · 17/08/2022 12:33

I have about 20?
Mulberry alexa
Mulberry Darley
Marc Jacobs Tote Bag
Coach large work bag
Coach medium size cross body
Coach clutch evening bag
ted baker holiday evening bag
orla kiely tote bag
orla kiely rucksack
orla kiely small evening bag
various orla kiely print cross body bags and satchels that I don’t use but sort of collect
fat face leather large work bag

I mostly use the Coach one for work as it is massive and smart black leather, fits Laptop etc, and the Tote bag for outside work, I do change them about and use them all, the Alexa is my favourite but it is more of a winter bag.
I LOVE handbags though, it is my weakness

Panickingnow · 17/08/2022 12:33

I got about 45.
lots of Cath Kidston.

Why does he go mad?
Have you used up the family savings?

So the answer was 18.

Not quite sure why you had to mention the brands!

What bag do you take to weddings and funerals?

CredibilityProblem · 17/08/2022 12:41

I've got a work one, a casual one, and a tiny crossbody one for keys/credit card/phone in the summer when I'm nipping out quickly and I don't have pockets in my clothes.

I use those all the time, and I also have a little black one for formal evenings, and a nice one I bought in Italy that I like but doesn't actually match any colours I wear and isn't secure enough to carry on the Tube. I should probably give that one to a charity shop.

I love my handbags but I carry so many essentials in them that I CBA changing stuff from one to another. I have duplicate hairbrush/hand cream/lipstick/sanpro/paracetamol/pen/Oyster in my work and casual bags, but wouldn't want to extend that to umpteen different bags. I do know that there are such things as inner liners that you can transfer between handbags, but I'm not that committed.

dudsville · 17/08/2022 12:42

I love my bags but try to keep it to a few. I change them depending on what I'm wearing/doing, so could be daily. I have a few cross body bags that consists of two brown, two black, and a plain green and a multi coloured green. Then a big navy that's good for travel and a small leopard print.

Range from throw over shoulder cheap and cheerful to a Salvatore Ferragamo via many Lulu Guinness, Tiffany & Co and Coach.
I collect handbags and go for ones that interest me rather than the name necessarily- I have a 1940's lucite clutch made from the melted windscreens of B52 bombers and some leather bags from the 1930's.
I'm lucky enough that if I see a bag that excites me I can normally afford to buy it. I do change bags most weeks so they do get used.

Wherearemyspex · 17/08/2022 12:58

Wow ... 70? I thought 30 was a lot.

My friend with 30 actually has soft, fleece over bags to keep them in, which essentially means she can't tell which is which when she opens the cupboard they live in..

Also, never heard of a handbag organiser make swapping easier. Great idea. (Goes off to look for one Smile)

Wow. That's extreme handbag collecting.

I mean, even if you change bags weekly as you say in your post, that's 3 years before one will surface again......
