Handbags - how many do you have and how often do you change to another one?

Wherearemyspex · 17/08/2022 11:05

I've been having a good sort out and have three bags full of stuff for my favourite charity shop. They contain clothes etc, but also 6 handbags I know I will never want to use again. This has cut my handbag "collection" down to 8 in total. Of these, I tend to use one more than the others but swap occasionally as the mood (and what I'm wearing) dictates.

I told my friend about my "large" handbag collection and she laughed ....... apparently she has around 30, doesn't think that's excessive and is always on the lookout for more to add to her collection! But she still has a couple of favourites she uses more than others.

Can anyone go higher than 30?

While we are on the topic, would anyone mind telling me how you keep on top of transferring stuff between bags? Does everyone apart from me use organisers? Or are you just better at emptying them out?

I think I have about 30 of which probably 5 are in circulation at any time and the rest are tidied away/ forgotten about. I recently sorted through them and found easily 20 lost lipsticks and approximately one million pens. I need help with this.

My smaller ones live in a basket on a shelf. The totes and rucksacks are piled up on another shelf.

badbaduncle · 17/08/2022 16:13

Senreve convertible backpack
Fossil convertible backpack
Fossil used when I need to take fewer things, Senreve when I need to bring my personal laptop(which is bigger than my work laptop).

Both bags can be worn on the crook of the arm as a handbag, on the shoulder, crossbody and on the back and fit in a laptop and my huge makeup bag.

Senreve black clutch with chain for evenings/weddings.

I have a peeling longchamp tote that is really meant for the bin but I can't bear to throw away because it was my first 'nice' bag.

That's all I need.

HandbagsnGladrags · 17/08/2022 16:18

Forgot my black Gucci cross body. How could I forget that beaut.

Bumply · 17/08/2022 16:31

0 actual handbags.

4 rucksacks

JaninaDuszejko · 17/08/2022 16:41

I don't have masses:
A burgundy leather tote for carrying my laptop to work, 5 years old
A few leather crossbody bags (1 black, 1 navy, 1 bright blue) for wearing everyday, different colours for different outfits, all <6 years old
A colourful recycled plastic basket from RE for the summer - new this year!
An ancient red Crumpler camerabag for my photography stuff (and by ancient I mean prechildren so >15 years old)
A TYR rucksack for my swimming stuff, acquired from DD1 after she stopped swimming club
An ancient gold sequined bag from Topshop for going out out
An ancient colourful sequined clutch from Accessorize for going out out
I haven't got one yet but I fancy a Kanken rucksack for days out with the DC. When they were little but potty trained I only wanted the tiny camerabags after years of carrying a changebag but now I can admit something a bit bigger might be useful.

Shoes, on the other hand, I have about 50 pairs, will never think i have enough pairs and plan all my outfits around them.

MrsMoastyToasty · 17/08/2022 16:44

I black bag - m&s
1 black bag - clinkards
1 biege and tan bag- tk maxx
1 cross body bag- m&s
1 back pack- New Look
1 beaded bag- Matalan

I'm not into bags in a big way. Despite this I once went for a job interview at the Mulberry factory in Somerset.

DopamineDresser · 17/08/2022 16:53

I reckon around 20, ranging from totes to cross-body, clutches....all sorts! I love bags so that's only due to extreme self-restraint Blush I use a different bag almost every day at times, and sometimes more than one a day - for example, shoulder bag for day time then swap to a cross body for evening...

Love beautiful bright colours, and matching different bags to different outfits or uses....got a slight Fossil addiction. Bags always fit, and complete an outfit in my opinion Smile

@Cheesywholemealbread @tootiredforanything
@Sellie555

I just bloody KNEW someone would pull me up on that but there's no need to be quite so snide, I would hope.

It seemed marginally more of an interesting read than if I'd listed three black, two blue and so on. It was as much for my own entertainment as anything else.

I also think it's interesting.

We are after all on style and be and beauty Grin

Ahh sorry we're in chat.

But still - I love reading the specifics

I use those free bags you often get with beauty "gifts with purchase " to put essentials in (lip balm, tampon, etc) then it's just a case of swopping this, phone, keys and phone

NiqueNique · 17/08/2022 17:03

Yes I did that too, back when I used to switch a lot. A pouch (or pouches, depending on the size of the bag) to hold everything and I would move from one bag to another. I found pouches easier than an organiser because I used bags of all different sizes and shapes.

NiqueNique · 17/08/2022 17:04

I also kept my bags very tidy, no random crap, millions of receipts and so on - I feel out of control if there’s a huge mess in my bag, in fact it’s one of the first signs of overwhelm for me: if my bag is chaotic then my life has become chaotic.

Blush21 · 17/08/2022 17:09

I have about 6 crossbody bags I rotate to match my outfit and use day to day. Quite a few clutches and larger handbags/more structured totes but I don’t tend to spend more than 50. I’m quite heavy on bags and like to change with the trends. Overall I’d say around 20 and always happy to buy a new one

CoastalWave · 17/08/2022 17:10

Zero.

I have NEVER understood why anyone would need more than one?!

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 17/08/2022 17:15

I don’t understand how you can only need one. Clutch for a fancy dinner / sight seeing in a city / carry on for a flight / bike ride with family / work - all totally different sizes / requirements!

PeloAddict · 17/08/2022 17:20

Lots but I only use a few

Grey Kurt Geiger quilted
2 x coach, one black and one tan, both used for work
LK Bennett in a cream colour
2 clutch bags for "out out" in black and nude

OneCup · 17/08/2022 17:25

One. It sounds like a faff to swap content around every time!

BestIsWest · 17/08/2022 17:27

Tan leather cross body
Tan Leather shoulder bag
Small black for funerals etc.
All John Lewis
Vintage gold embossed leather clutch that I inherited.
Barely use any of them.

Cross body Nicky James that I use all the time.

crossstitchingnana · 17/08/2022 17:30

6

crimsonlake · 17/08/2022 17:35

I have little interest in bags so basically use the same one or two. I never notice any one else's either. Coats and jackets are a different matter, I have a lot of those.

Titsflyingsouth · 17/08/2022 17:39

70!!

Bloody hell, I thought I was at overkill with ten. And I've recently culled those down to 7

1 x standard, black leather all- purpose type handbag

1 x large, brown, slouchy, cross- body bag

1 x Lulu Guinness posh 'going out' bag. My pride and joy.

1 x monsoon beaded silver clutch

1 x LK Bennett red clutch

1 x tiny brown leather cross body bought in Greece (just big enough for phone, purse and keys.)

1 x Harris Tweed handbag. Falling to pieces but LOVE it so much, can't bear to let it go.

handbagsandholidays · 17/08/2022 17:43

I have somewhere between 75-100 and genuinely change my handbag on a daily basis. It makes me happy and it encourages me to take a little time out for myself to think about what I'm wearing rather than putting on the first thing I find. X

Hoolahulahoop · 17/08/2022 17:49

I've 3 -5 I use regularly. Not designer (get in next or wherever)

I also have lots of clutch bags. Some really nice ones I've only used once for wedding etc.
