Darius pop idol

I've just heard that Darius has been found dead in an apartment aged 41.

I went to a book signing of his years back , took
My two younger children back then , he was so so lovely , really friendly and nice to the two of them making sure they were ok after lining up etc and happily posed for photos making them giggle and such a charming handsome soul too

We had a very similar experience. 2003? He was still with Jacqui Ainsley at the time.

I've read this on a radio presenter's Twitter feed and am copying it exactly as written because I think it sums up Darius exactly.

"Once at Viking FM we hosted an acoustic set with Darius. We brought some of the ASDA Heroes to see and meet him. One girl, very poorly and wheelchair bound, caught his eye and he gave her his towel. A few weeks later we were heading to Sheffield to host the Smash Hits Party. Darius was one of the acts. We took some of the Asda Heroes with us. This girl called me to one side and said “Darius told me how much he liked my bike chain bracelet, can you give it to him please Darren.” I interviewed him backstage and gave him the bracelet. He was so pleased and happy. A few months later he had a photo shoot in Heat Magazine and he was wearing said bracelet. Can you imagine how happy he made that girl ? What a lovely man, an amazing singer, ridiculously good looking and without a bad bone in his body. RIP Darius. You will be missed."

Oh gosh this is such sad news, I traveled on the same flight with his wife and children one being a baby at the time.
she was meeting him in Bangkok, such a lovely lady we chatted the whole flight taking turns a peace with the baby so she could get a break
she was on her own. Same cabin, She seemed very happy with him telling me how great he is with the kids & family it’s so so sad.

I remember rolling on the floor laughing at that Britney audition, even though you could tell how talented he was, and then couldn’t get my head around the fact that the bloke on Pop Idol (or whatever one is was) was the same guy. That was the worlds best haircut.

Had Colourblind in my head all day today, it really is a great song.

I think they were his step children. Not that it matters. My stepdad is the only dad I’ve ever wanted or needed.

Ooh so sad. I didn't know he had children and a baby 😔😔😔😔 gosh the poor mum must be so devastated. Poor baby won't get to know him. God just gets worse.

I read that he had step children when he was married but he really enjoyed being a step dad

I was lucky to know Darius, who was one of my mother’s favourite singers. In the many years that Mum was housebound, Darius visited her several times to serenade her in her bedroom. Mum would join in while beaming ear to ear.

When Mum passed away earlier this year, it meant the world to me and the family to have Darius sing at her memorial service, a spine-tingling rendition of Hallelujah. He flew back specially from America for it."

No, they were his wife's children from an earlier marriage, and are in their 20s now, the flight that @Findingfreedom22 talks about happened about 20 years ago.

Shocking. How did he come to be living in Minnesota? Not an obvious choice.

We lived in the same area as his family. When he was home he used to pick his wee brother up from youth club. Charming and friendly with time for everyone who wanted to say hi. Such sad news.

Amazing, not one bad word, not one hint of gossip.

I have my Darius CDs out of the CD cabinet from around 2003 and now in the car.

How very sad,he was very talented and seemed so nice.Very handsome too.I wonder what on earth happened? Terrible loss to his family.

He was one of the few celebrities who everyone always nice was such a nice guy.

I don’t know if anyone has already mentioned this it do you remember in Popstars when everyone took the piss out of him for saying he wanted to be a Platinum selling artist by the time he was 35……then he went and actually did it?!?

Terrible comments on a YouTube video of him, suggesting he had AIDS. There is no way of reporting or banning those twats on there.

So sad, he was such lovely person. Just after pop idol we were staying at The Lowry hotel and he was at breakfast but looked like he was having a meeting, my then 5 year old daughter wanted to say hello and tell him he should have one as he was the bestest (her words) but I said no, we can’t disturb his breakfast meeting. He looked smiled then immediately came over, said thank you for being so thoughtful but he was happy to meet her, he kneeled down beside her and had a lovely chat, drew in her colouring book and accepted a drawing from her, he even listened to her sing and let her give him a hug. He was so sweet with her and she’s never forgotten it. I’m sure he touched many lives like that as he was so genuine and caring and took the time to make a little girl really happy.

We hear all these super things about people when they've gone. A lot of info about his charity work came out about George Michael after he died.
