The 'heatwave'

abovedecknotbelow · 14/08/2022 01:26

Don't get me wrong it's been hot here in SE London, but pleasant with a breeze. The house is now light duvet weather, in a Victorian terrace.

The local reservoir is fucked but the local lake / river is higher than normal this time of year.

Anyone actually really hot, where are you in the uk?

North London, 36c today.

suspect you have more tolerance of high temps than most? Do you know what temp your home is?

TartanGirl1 · 14/08/2022 01:31

NE Scotland, 24 is a heatwave here...

DramaAlpaca · 14/08/2022 01:35

West of Ireland. 29° absolutely is a heatwave.

NeedToLeaveNow · 14/08/2022 01:35

Terrible
The house feels like a oven
Its currently 33’ inside the bedroom!
EAST ANGLIA

TheStarsDontShine · 14/08/2022 01:41

South west the house was 30 today and outside higher - definitely a heatwave here

Cheekymaw · 14/08/2022 01:49

Hampshire coast city. 34C today. Really can't be arsed with it anymore. I'm Scottish and pale as feck.
It was 32C in the house all day.
23C in our bedroom right now. We can't open our windows as everyone chainsmokes in this city,it seems. Last night I woke up wheezing with ma asthma as her across the road and her sons were having a 3am chainsmoke.( I swear this wummin constantly smokes outside her house!). It was met by my next door neighbour puffing out the back . Don't get me wrong, dead nice folk and I don't want to say anything to them but I can't breathe for the heat and fags right now.

fernz · 14/08/2022 01:51

SE London and it's unbearable, upstairs in my Victorian terrace has been around 30 degrees for days now, downstairs "only" 27 or 28... 😓 And it hasn't rained for over a month so all the green spaces are parched and dusty.

mrsfollowill · 14/08/2022 01:51

I really feel sorry for anyone in London/SE tonight- you have had endless weeks of this! I'm in Yorkshire - it was foggy and cold until around 10am this morning so I opened all my doors and windows and let the cooler air in - has been 32C this pm but the house was cool to start with so not so bad now- maybe 18 /19 in bedroom -15 ish on the step in the garden. It will break very soon then we can all moan about heating costs!

avamiah · 14/08/2022 01:54

East London and It’s so hot and no air at all in the house and the fan is useless so I’ve turned it off.
Even the cat doesn’t want to come in as it’s cooler outside.😥

RewildingAmbridge · 14/08/2022 02:00

36 here this afternoon, South East. Our house is fine actually, relatively open downstairs, all internal walls are solid brick, big tilt and turn Windows, huge back door, near the coast (ten minutes walk to beach) and up a hill so a bit of a breeze (traffic hideous with tourists). Went to my parents for a few hours about 45 minutes inland, fifties built, window restrictors, fans just fruitlessly pushing hot air around. It was grim, so I think it depends on the local geography and type of house you live in.

tobee · 14/08/2022 02:06

SW London at at 2.02 am my thermometer app is registering 21 degrees. But the house temperature says 27.7 degrees! Was 32 degrees earlier I think?

It's got a bit more muggy and airless today so less pleasant heat. Fans going here and it will be too hot tonight but my house seems to retain the heat.

I love the heat and summer altogether. Last year when Autumn was hitting us I was "hang on I'm still waiting for summer to begin!"

LittleBearPad · 14/08/2022 02:12

I’m so done with it all now. Currently 27 degrees in our room

EmmaH2022 · 14/08/2022 02:17

OP gone to sleep under her duvet.

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 14/08/2022 02:24

Well upstairs registering at 27 degrees currently so am downstairs on cool leather sofa with the back door propped open and lounge windows also wide open. 🥵

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 14/08/2022 02:25

Didn't say I'm south west.
Was 34 in the shade here at one point today.

I literally can not sleep. There is no air circulation and I've turned the fan off now as it's doing bugger all

Adversity · 14/08/2022 02:35

I went out at 8am for a 1.5 hour walk. By 9am it was hot for me. DH went for a 5k run at 10 am, he just wasn’t affected.

We have had decades of me always wanting the thermostat down and him wanting it up. People regulate their temps very differently.

It got to 34 degrees

Notonthestairs · 14/08/2022 02:41

It's 27 degrees upstairs in my house (Norfolk). I'm lying downstairs with an ice pack wrapped in a tea towel.

FB memories helpfully reminded me that on this day last year my family were in anoraks & jogging bottoms on the beach in Devon. I had a flask of tea!

Yes it's a 'heatwave'.

LynetteScavo · 14/08/2022 02:58

My living room is now a lovely cool 26'C. The rest of the house is much hotter. It's been too hot to sunbathe, and for me that's saying something. My lawn is parched. There is definitely a heatwave!

Singleandproud · 14/08/2022 03:13

Norfolk coast fortunately walking distance to the beach where its felt much cooler, only reaching mid 20's as we've had some breeze. We've purposefully not done any day trips, as the thought of being stuck in a car in the tourist traffic is horrendous, Slightly further inland its been mid 30's. We've headed to the beach either for a picnic breakfast or a picnic dinner everyday this week and avoided the peak hours of sun as DD is a red head and according to my dermatologist I'm high risk for skin cancer.

Feeling sorry for anyone in London as you've had it worse plus air pollution means the air always feels warm (to me anyway).

toooldtocarewhoknows · 14/08/2022 03:15

South west here, temperature has just fallen to bearable levels. I have the fan sat on the window sill facing in to pull in the cold air. That's working so well.

I've opened the loft hatch so the hot air can rise into the loft. That helps too.

My cats refuse to come in as it's much cooler outside.

I have debated carrying the mattress into the garden and sleeping with them under the stars.

Singleandproud · 14/08/2022 03:15

We've not had any rain since the big downpours that we had following the really hot weather mid July although that's not unusual in Norfolk. We always get a ton of rain in September that causes surface flooding as the ground is so hard and dry.

LesLavandes · 14/08/2022 03:20

Awake in Brighton baking.

I wonder what treats are in store come Autumn and this weird climate change

45hopperbunny · 14/08/2022 03:58

SW London and I’m absolutely burning in the bedroom.

It’s been unnecessarily hot and the babies haven’t coped well either. Looking forward to the cool week

garlictwist · 14/08/2022 04:29

I like it being a bit warmer for once. I can finally take my jumper off. I love not sleeping in a duvet and walking around in bare feet instead of slippers.
