New thread as needed.

I wonder what new promises will come out this week?

Councils, churches, community groups are already planning 'heat banks' for people unable to afford their heating.

Food banks and heat banks needed in the UK in 2022.

L1ttledrummergirl · 10/08/2022 21:09

Maybe everyone who can't afford heating should turn the heating off in the day and head to the council offices to keep warm. They are always overheated in my experience.

"EXCLUSIVE: Liz Truss campaign manager Iain Duncan Smith told an online meeting hosted by the Conservative Christian Fellowship that she 'hated' her own policy on banning gay conversion therapy, hinting that she may drop it if elected leader:"

Reliable & trustworthy?

Might be an idea for people to get together to take turns to spend the day in a warm house. Like a rota.

(Not such a daft idea....we need to have some unusual ideas so people can keep warm and fed over winter)

'How are the rocketing fuel prices media scaremongering?'

The media screeching thousands will freeze to death is all very similar to the covid we're all going to die hysteria.

'Saing lockdown wasn't needed at that point is ridiculous.'

I didn't say it wasn't needed I said a week earlier wouldn't have 'saved thousands of lives' I cba to link half the Internet, just google 'did lockdowns save lives' and the answer is not really or very few and compared to all the other terrible consequences. I believed it was worth it at the time, but we now know it didn't really help death wise. So the pp saying 'we locked down too late and thousands more died!' Is incorrect.

That said I wouldn't have gone to a massive event either. That's just common sense isn't it, as always many people don't seem to have any.

@JaniieJones Are you suggesting that your esteemed leader Johnson fails to have 'common sense'. I am astounded.

Please can you explain why you think the Royal College of Nursing are voting for potential strike action for the first time ever? Shouldn't they be more grateful for the investment & great leadership coming from the Government that you speak of?

I've just remortgaged, costs are all spiralling, it's not media hype. The financial crisis and looming recession is real why are you downplaying it?

ClaudineClare · 10/08/2022 22:00

Is @JaniieJones coming back to defend the indefensible I wonder?

"Exc - Gordon Brown sets out a plan for the winter.

He calls on the government to cancel the price cap and open talks with energy companies on setting lower prices.

Energy firms unable to offer lower bills should be temporarily re-nationalised."

'Let the bodies pile high'. Strangely the only person who heard him allegedly say this is Cummings. No one else. No matter how much you dislike BJ do you seriously think he would say that when he had been very ill with it himself

IF BJ had really been ill, do you really think he would have exposed himself and many others to a potential serious infection with many many "gatherings" or Parties as most of us know them as?

He may have had CV but it was nothing more than a v mild version he used for PR.

BJ doesn't give a shit about you or i, i'm amazed that particular penny hasn't dropped with you.

AndreaC74 · 10/08/2022 22:43

Renationalisation will be, in the longer term, the cheaper solution, plus a potential profit when privatised again.

We wouldn't allow this state of affairs to continue if we were at war and Russia has in effect, declared war on us all.

DowningStreetParty · 10/08/2022 22:44

Things are so utterly fucked that if the Tories had any sense they’d make GB a special envoy and appoint him to sort it out. Really hope he’s back on the political scene.

Quia · 10/08/2022 23:27

'mother thinks Boris is a total idiot.'

Why? Has the msm brainwashed her too?

She's never been on social media in her life, @JaniieJones. She makes her judgments on the basis of the facts.

Quia · 10/08/2022 23:30

Those useless Tories. Boris awol! gallivanting on posh holidays and no doubt having non stop partying yet the nhs backlog shrinks from 22k to under 200! How very dare he be sooooo competent.

We have a health system under which children with extremely serious mental health conditions are looking at two year waits even to be seen by CAMHS. What exactly is soooooo competent about that, @JaniieJones?

Quia · 10/08/2022 23:38

SueSaid · 10/08/2022 14:09

'EVERYONE. Including those calling them handouts to try and hint it's for poor.'

I'm not suggesting it is 'for the poor' I'm saying there are bound to be more payments to help everyone. Handouts isn't an insult.

You know the media really should stop all the scaremongering. It's like covid all over again, we'll need an 'energy board' at this rate.

No one can afford the ridiculous amounts the media are reporting. It's a shame they pushed Johnson out so we've had this leadership competition taking up time when they should be having press conferences with energy bosses and ministers to explain what is going on and what the plan is.

Why press conferences?

Is there any valid reason why Johnson couldn't be talking to energy bosses and ministers to sort out a plan, including Sunak and Truss in those discussions? We are after all paying him to lead the government, it would be ever so nice if he did it rather than playing around with the RAF's toys.

Do you think it was a bit of a shame that Johnson appointed a known sex molester to a position of power over junior MPs and staff, hesitated to take away the whip when he duly started molesting people publicly, and then sent various ministers out to churn out different lies for him?

Blossomtoes · 10/08/2022 23:40

the nhs backlog shrinks from 22k to under 200!

Even if that were true, what’s it got to do with Johnson?

Quia · 10/08/2022 23:41

Oh don't you think the rapid vaccine rollout was impressive?

As most of us are still waiting for the fourth vaccine in the face of rising infection rates, no, not really.

Quia · 11/08/2022 00:01

No matter how much you dislike BJ do you seriously think he would say that when he had been very ill with it himself.

He wasn't "very ill". On his own admission, it was "really mild".

tobee · 11/08/2022 01:59

I started a thread on this on the Covid board that's not garnered any replies so I'll stick it here:-

Looks like it's going to be announced tomorrow that the prophylactic Evusheld - an AstraZeneca treatment that gives those unable to produce antibodies to covid from the vaccines - has been shelved as a plan for the U.K.

It's been here approved in the U.K. since March. At least 32 other countries, including the USA, have made it available to the most vulnerable.

Not heard of it? I'm not surprised. No one gives a fuck about the 500,000 or so who could benefit in this country. Many are still effectively shielding.

It's a disgrace that the government have decided Covid is over. And trumpet how they rolled the vaccines out.

The kind of hospital treatment cost that vulnerable people could need after contracting covid are huge in comparison to the cost of Evusheld.

It's tantamount to eugenics.

Can you imagine what it would be like if the restrictions you had for lockdown in March 2020 had never ended?

As I understood it this comment was reported to have been said before he got ill anyway.

And no, he wasn't that ill- that's been proven.

Tbh I've often wondered if the nurse who apparently nurses him from death to Downing Street quit because she was embarrassed by the attention over a lie. But I accept that's pure speculation!

Blossomtoes · 10/08/2022 23:40

the nhs backlog shrinks from 22k to under 200!

Even if that were true, what’s it got to do with Johnson?

It was the head of NHS that did it.

Funnily enough I didn't get a reply when I asked who was in charge. But then I knew I wouldn't because i already knew the answer as there was an article linked to the one linked to here!

SueSaid · 11/08/2022 06:34

'He may have had CV but it was nothing more than a v mild version he used for PR.'

I wonder if anyone bothered to tell the ICU staff caring for him it was all 'pr' and he just had a mild version. Are you seriously suggesting nhs staff just went along with your wild claims it was all fake?

'Even if that were true, what’s it got to do with Johnson?'

So the things that go well, nothing to do with the head of government, things that go badly all his fault. Riiiiight. It's a bit of a contrary opnion, no?

'She's never been on social media in her life'.

Msm. Mainstream media ie the news, the papers. I'm presuming she is aware of those.

This with knobs on. It was uncovered that he really wasn't that ill. All staff at St. Thomas's were required to sign the OSA, but there was no way they were preparing to announce his death or any such nonsense. He milked it.

Roussette · 11/08/2022 07:04

Yes. They had to. They were at St. Thomas's and had to sign the Official Secrets Act. But there has been leaks about his condition, or lack of it.

Quia · 11/08/2022 07:24

He's the one who said on the record that it was "really mild". The treatment records demonstrate that it was never the death's door he tried to claim at the time. Charitably, I suspect the hospital was just being extra cautious.

'She's never been on social media in her life'.

Msm. Mainstream media ie the news, the papers. I'm presuming she is aware of those.

She listens to, reads and watches the news from a variety of sources including in particular the right-wing press. As I said, she thinks Thatcher was absolutely wonderful.

Are people only entitled to opinions on politics if they don't listen to, watch or read the news?

Notonthestairs · 11/08/2022 08:08

The Telegraph, Mail, the Times, the Evening Standard, the Express, the Sun and all their Sunday papers were all conducting a witch-hunt against Johnson? Really?

Dacre had better forget all about his peerage then.

AndreaC74 · 11/08/2022 08:09

I wonder if anyone bothered to tell the ICU staff caring for him it was all 'pr' and he just had a mild version. Are you seriously suggesting nhs staff just went along with your wild claims it was all fake

Not completely fake but the bottom line is that anyone who was serious ill, in ICU & so poorly that No10 were in talks to announce his death, would not then, just a few weeks & months later, have a series of parties where people could catch and pass on Covid.

He also said that it was his weight that led to him becoming so "critically" ill, yet he has done nothing about that either.

BJ is known as a Manipulator and he has certainly done a number on you.
