New thread as needed.

I wonder what new promises will come out this week?

I would love to know what the shareholders think about all the profits being made for them at the expense of the British people. Or maybe their neighbours.
Why aren't they speaking out about the ridiculous dividends they will be receiving? Are they happy that when people start starving and freezing to death, they will be receiving blood money?

DuncinToffee · 10/08/2022 14:20

Scaremongering media? Bit like the project fear excuse.

As for Johnson
When he resigned as Con leader but wanted to stay on as caretaker PM, Johnson said, "I want you to know that from now until my successor is in place, your interests will be served and the government of the country will be carried on."

Just more lies then.

AndreaC74 · 10/08/2022 15:00

@JaniieJones
No one can afford the ridiculous amounts the media are reporting

Ah so the media shouldn't report what experts (who haven't been wrong so far) are saying now?

It's a shame they pushed Johnson out so we've had this leadership competition taking up time when they should be having press conferences with energy bosses and ministers to explain what is going on and what the plan is

Are you for real?
Tory MPs pushed Johnson out because he lied over the appointment of a sex abuser, this on top of a litany of scandals that Johnson caused himself.

The 'Mail very much supported BJ.

There is nothing stopping BJ from coming up with policy now, if he can't, he should never have stayed on.

Roussette · 10/08/2022 15:26

He's not a caretaker PM. He's absent and sorting out what he'll do next come September, he's never cared about the country, just cared about his own enrichment and status

SueSaid · 10/08/2022 15:29

Blossomtoes · 10/08/2022 14:17

they should be having press conferences with energy bosses and ministers to explain what is going on and what the plan is.

They haven’t got a plan so that would be a tad difficult.

Well, we had a perfectly competent PM (see rapid vaccine roll out, furlough NHS backlog stats etc etc) ousted by a bizarre media witchhunt, sadly now time and effort has been wasted on 'hustings' all the while the energy thing escalates. Those back benchers really are a bunch of hopeless buffoons. Johnson couldn't have instigated any energy cost strategies as a resigned leader, there'd have been Mirror Led Outrage.

www.theguardian.com/business/2022/aug/10/uk-ministers-to-meet-energy-bosses-amid-talk-of-toughening-up-windfall-tax-cost-of-living?utm_term=Autofeed&CMP=twt_gu&utm_medium&utm_source=Twitter

Let's hope something will be sorted to out the brakes on greedy energy firms and their 'price caps'.

Roussette · 10/08/2022 15:34

A perfectly competent PM my arse.
As if.

DuncinToffee · 10/08/2022 15:39

Media witch hunt Grin

A competent government would not be side tracked by hustings.

But keep telling yourself he had the big calls right and blame everyone else for his failures.

SueSaid · 10/08/2022 15:43

'A perfectly competent PM my arse'

Oh don't you think the rapid vaccine rollout was impressive? Don't you remember how miserable the restrictions were? Don't you think opening up in July 2021 when Labour were demanding further lockdowns and getting hysterical about the 'Johnson variety' was a good thing?

Yes the wall paper was a bad idea as was trusting Cummings and letting stupid civil servants get pissed. Still, we had him for the worst 2 years in recent history so for that we should all be grateful Grin (no I'm not 'alkie Nads').

DuncinToffee · 10/08/2022 15:49

"Let the bodies pile high"

Yes, I was happy with the vaccine roll out, very thankful to the scientists and NHS.

Notonthestairs · 10/08/2022 15:51

Perfectly competent? Blimey, Johnson has been downgraded from great leader.

Johnson brought about his own downfall. If Oliver Dowden felt the need to resign you know things must have been bad.
Maybe if the Government had spent less time defending Johnson's lies they'd have been in a better position to sort of energy price rises?
Of course if the party had moved against Johnson when it had became obvious to everyone else he was lying they'd have been a new PM in situ months ago.

Dont you think my DH who is only a year or so away from 4th jab age should have his, when Spain for instance has rolled out a 4th to ALL their citizens over 12? We started quickly but got overtaken.

He had it bad I admit, pandemic etc but that £37billion to his and Hancock's mate Dido Harding for useless T&T was scandalous. As was allowing Cheltenham festival to go ahead, she's on the Board.

He acted illegally in who he appointed for top jobs.

A good PM. No

AndreaC74 · 10/08/2022 15:58

@JaniieJones

The Tories turned on him because of his incompetency, otherwise he'd still be there.

You need to do a bit more research on the UK's vaccine rollout.

The true story of the UK's vaccine rollout is hiding in plain sight:

  1. In 2020 the UK approved and procured 40M doses of Pfizer and 100M of AZ all under EU rules.
  1. From 7th December 2020 until 7th April 21, the UK did indeed have the fastest rollout in Europe.

But then...

Worth reading.

newnamethanks · 10/08/2022 16:14

A perfectly competent PM? When was this? It's been a while and looks like it will still be a longer wait yet. Truss? Sunak? Dear oh dear. That's the best on offer? Everyone cross fingers for the future.

countrygirl99 · 10/08/2022 16:28

Some people set the bar so low a skinny worm would knock it down trying to limbo under it.

Yes, this whole vaccine rollout stuff is used by the gullible & by dyed in the wool Tories, who refuse to accept their party or leader could ever get anything wrong.

Big calls is just an outright lie.

Roussette · 10/08/2022 16:31

That is a fascinating read that thread. It doesn't surprise me

"Let the bodies pile high"

Yes, I was happy with the vaccine roll out, very thankful to the scientists and NHS.

You do know the NHS is funded and directed by Government don't you, ran by the Department of Health? (a Gov department). They aren't an independent entity, self funded or anything.

'Let the bodies pile high'. Strangely the only person who heard him allegedly say this is Cummings. No one else. No matter how much you dislike BJ do you seriously think he would say that when he had been very ill with it himself.

DuncinToffee · 10/08/2022 17:00

Very ill..... I give him ill after boasting about handshakes.

Government has underfunded the NHS, which makes me even more grateful to the NHS staff. And what do they get in return? A 8pm clap.

A competent PM doesn't break the law and lies about it. A competent PM doesn't miss important meetings incl Cobra ones because of holidaying

DuncinToffee · 10/08/2022 17:02

I wish he was a competent PM because we wouldn't have been in this mess right now..

itsgettingweird · 10/08/2022 17:22

Thank goodness for how media re the
Covid warnings.

Thankfully getting the real picture from Italy warned people who started taking their own precautions and forcing Johnson to face reality.

Shame it was a week too late and caused a lot of unnecessary deaths.

A competent PM cares about the electorate and realises they work for them.

But Johnson is and has only ever been out for himself.

I think if he was slightly more subtle about it then he wouldn't have had to be ousted to save the reputation of the Torys.

However I'm not sure Sunak or Truss are up to that job either!

cakeorwine · 10/08/2022 17:38

SueSaid · 10/08/2022 14:09

'EVERYONE. Including those calling them handouts to try and hint it's for poor.'

I'm not suggesting it is 'for the poor' I'm saying there are bound to be more payments to help everyone. Handouts isn't an insult.

You know the media really should stop all the scaremongering. It's like covid all over again, we'll need an 'energy board' at this rate.

No one can afford the ridiculous amounts the media are reporting. It's a shame they pushed Johnson out so we've had this leadership competition taking up time when they should be having press conferences with energy bosses and ministers to explain what is going on and what the plan is.

Johnson should have gone ages ago....

But then Ukraine started
And we have had the pandemic
And now the cost of living

Always some excuse not to get rid of a lying leader.

I can't believe Truss is being taken seriously as a prospective PM. I can only conclude there's something worse to follow, possibly involving BJ. God knows what, I don't, but if she's the future of this country then everything is worse than I thought. Which is very bad.
