New thread as needed.

I wonder what new promises will come out this week?

Liz Truss may know infidelity is wrong, but that did not stop her infidelity.

newnamethanks · 24/08/2022 13:32

Don't hold your breath over those elections Blossomtoes, I see this bunch of grabbers inching it's way towards a State of Emergency. Oh dear, public disquiet and outrage, sadly normal processes suspended while we respond as a New Government. Am aware I sound like a paranoid loon but I'd put nothing past this lot.

Blossomtoes · 24/08/2022 13:44

I wouldn’t either @newnamethanks. But they’ll overstep at some point and the wave of civil unrest will sweep them away. I think the anger’s building already.

newnamethanks · 24/08/2022 14:30

You're not wrong. It's very worrying.

They can bloody keep him. Wish they would.

That is a great video from Australia- spot on. The current crop of Tories are such a shocking disgrace that it can be seen from the other side of the world! And space!

DowningStreetParty · 24/08/2022 18:01

I really agree with you about nuclear power Mibbe. We need it. Should absolutely not be in private hands though.

I think we discussed this at the time. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Maitlis does next.

the80sweregreat · 25/08/2022 07:16

Rishi sunak is now saying we shouldn't have had the lockdowns.
He isn't saying that they shouldn't have wasted so much money ( giving money to their friends ) on the ppe contracts, the Track and trace system and eat out to help out etc.
giving control to the scientists was wrong. Another captain hindsight.
Why didn't he speak out at that time then? Or resigned ?

Piggywaspushed · 25/08/2022 07:19

Because he knows it is actually total bollocks.

the80sweregreat · 25/08/2022 07:51

Test and trace ! Sorry
Not the post office system

Novum · 25/08/2022 11:55

The Ukraine visit is slightly pathetic. Boris thinks it makes him look Churchillian, but he's totally delusional.

the80sweregreat · 25/08/2022 12:58

A few callers early this morning to lbc ( Tom sawbrick) were upset that it sounds as if Boris Johnson is comparing higher energy costs and the cost of living crisis here to the conditions in Ukraine because of the war.
I can see his point, it could be a lot worse , but when people start having to find hundreds a month for the same energy usage they have had previously and it looks as if this trend will continue into next year as well , it's going to be difficult to be sympathetic to those people and the threat of Putin and the continuing war compared to trying to heat your home and eat this winter time.
I think it was an ill judged thing to say , but of course I wouldn't want to live in war conditions or have to go through what those people are either.
He maybe could have worded it better.
I guess that he doesn't care now he hasn't long left as PM, but you also have to consider your own people too and how all this all effects them.
The worry about money and how to afford it all is off the scales , yet nobody seems to be addressing how to deal with it going forwards and that 400 pounds help won't last that long for many people when the prices go up and up again. No wonder people are unhappy/ worried

tobee · 25/08/2022 13:10

I think it was an absolutely terrible thing to say although immediately I only read the reports.

Alexandra2001 · 25/08/2022 13:15

Johnson is very wealthy & will soon be wealthier still once he hits the after dinner speech circuit, as far as i could tell, this was just another version of "Let them eat cake"

Didn't he also compare Brexit to the war in Ukraine?

Blossomtoes · 25/08/2022 13:16

It really shocked me, I couldn’t believe he’d actually said it.

Roussette · 25/08/2022 13:50

Nor me.
You may be freezing to death but at least you aren't bleeding to death in Ukraine.
Unfeeling. Crass. Obnoxious comment

This is an absolutely fascinating and informative read... about the Conservative party and what might evolve in the future from the absolute shitfest it is now.

I am totally on board with what has been said and can imagine this being the outcome in the next few years/decade.

Highly recommended

Lonelycrab · 25/08/2022 16:31

Top read that, thanks Roussette. Very astute summary of where we are and where we and they are likely heading.

Roussette · 25/08/2022 17:06

Yes indeedy. I miss the big guns in the Tory party, at least they had the intelligence and wherewithal to be proper Tories! And were worth opposing, unlike this lot with it's push to the far right and UKIP

This is exactly how I saw it.

Completely obnoxious.

Not one iota of empathy for his own people who he serves still for at least another 2 weeks and their cost of living crisis - just "be thankful we aren't in a war".

tobee · 25/08/2022 17:33

I think it might be wishful thinking that the Tory party will split.

Why wouldn't political parties go down the populist line when it's much easier for the voting public to listen to sound bites, three word slogans, and big "personalities"? If it's all going to shit anyway why not have a good laugh at the same time? Why not buy into hating on everyone else and blame them for your problems?

Actually, sound bites probably too much for most people to engage with now, 3 words is enough work.

tobee · 25/08/2022 17:35

"Not one iota of empathy for his own people who he serves still for at least another 2 weeks and their cost of living crisis - just "be thankful we aren't in a war"."

He's going to be living it up as a feudal lord in Chequers, determined to avoid a public display of leaving Downing Street. He's an utter cunt.
