We are effed whichever way it goes. Only 2 candidates and a 6 week long, all media, free advertising campaign for LT. She is absolutely vile, deeply unpleasant, so fully expect her to win. What a country we've become.

the80sweregreat · 17/08/2022 08:10

Considering it's bad news every single day , why isn't the 1922 committee doing anything ?
Boris Johnson is on holiday again ( not sure if his back yet?) , Liz Truss and Rishi sunak both look exhausted ( and its clear he won't win ) yet they carry on with these pointless hustings knowing that Armageddon is around the corner in terms of inflation and winter fuel bills. Who will be able to afford 100 a week to heat homes and businesses will go under , people will be losing their jobs and public buildings will have to find the extra costs too ( no help for them)
Another man was killed yesterday in broad Daylight on a mobility scooter. War is still going on in Ukraine. Climate change is also a huge problem as well.
Yet here we are, we haven't got a proper PM and they seem to be fiddling while we all burn!
At least it rained a bit yesterday and Cornwall had floods.
Hey ho.

newnamethanks · 17/08/2022 08:21

It's all an absolute farce, 80s, I've retreated from the news lately as I'm finding it all hard to take. Proto fascism creeping in everywhere. I find it sickening.

L1ttledrummergirl · 16/08/2022 23:55

The whole thing is a pile of shit. As a tory member you just have to decide which piece of shit you like best to go at the top of the pile.

And why is it taking so fucking long, I don't ever remember this much effort going into a political party election process before? Surely a leaflet with bullet points in the post with the ballot paper would have done the trick. All this travelling the country, live debates etc is ridiculous and not good for the environment, it's like a poor quality travelling show. Who is doing the work whilst this is going on? Why do we need that job if no-one is doing it at the moment?

Is it taking more time because of the summer recess? It certainly does seem like overkill when you think an entire General Election campaign can be three weeks long.

DuncinToffee · 17/08/2022 09:51

World beating, all the big calls right...

CPI inflation hits 10.1% for July, the highest in more than 40 years, according to the ONS.

Highest in the G7

I hope Truss and Sunak look exhausted because of sleepless nights worrying about this but somehow I doubt it. The war on woke is not going to solve the cost of living crisis.

newnamethanks · 17/08/2022 09:57

Of course, Duncin, it had slipped my mind that Dog had got all the big calls right. That's why they've all been able to bugger off contentedly on holiday leaving everything going so well in their absence.

Totally agree. Can I advise you not to look at the Twitter account 'Liz For Leader' an official Government account set up specifically for this manipulative campaign.

What she, or her team, tweets is enough to turn me into a raging alcoholic. It is literally full of soundbites, pictures of her, and retweets by the ERG.

Don't look, don't look or you'll end up like me ... raging and swearing incessantly. 😂

Roussette · 17/08/2022 10:15

And Johnson is absolutely shameful. Yes, of course, he's entitled to a holiday but he has done fuck all since he was ousted. Absolutely fuck all. And why can't he holiday after 6th September?
He can go away for months then if he wants... no children at school, freedom. But no, whilst the country is in crisis, he just buggers off. He really is the worst PM in (my) living memory. He should be ashamed of himself, but he won't be of course.
I find it pathetic that these Ministers are being wheeled out to assure us it's 'business as usual'.

No it isn't. It's a shitshow of a leadership campaign with the bottom of the barrel scraped with these two, nothing is happening, inflation over 10% now, winter approaching and sod all being done to address what is going on in the country.
I hope BJ has very many sleepless nights in the future for whatever reason. That's me being polite.

Cornettoninja · 17/08/2022 10:21

I can’t wait for the days when we can trot out ‘at least it’s not Boris’, ‘it would have been worse if Boris was in power’

newnamethanks · 17/08/2022 10:23

I feel for you Rousette, I've just had to switch off James O'Brien playing a tape of Ms Truss voicing her opinion about British workers. Later today she will say it's been misconstrued. I assume she knows she's insulting her own Red Wall and doesn't care as no doubt, as well as being lazy, they're too thick to know she's talking about them. I fear I'll do damage to myself if I look at her promotional material. Stay safe. Have some iced water, can't help with the swearing, I'm turning into Father Jack myself.

🤣😂 Thanks for the support!

I try to keep away but just can't, so I go and look, have a swearing session and then move on for five minutes but it does get the heart pumping!

My latest rant is about her and Scotland, whilst in Perth and what she said...

“We are not just neighbours, we are family. And I will never ever let our family be split up.”

It sounds like coercive control to me ??! That's what the evil narc husband says to the browbeaten wife who is trying to leave him.

Piggywaspushed · 17/08/2022 10:34

Lots on Twitter saying 'well, she's right ' and missing the irony of her apparent admiration of a Communist regime. Also, evidence suggests she isn't even correct about individual worker productivity in the UK.

They really do just make stuff up.

newnamethanks · 17/08/2022 10:39

'Well, she is right, she doesn't mean me, I work hard, bootstraps, ten mile walk each way to work every day, etc'. She means all The Others. She is a monster of ignorance.

the80sweregreat · 17/08/2022 11:10

What I took from the Liz truss tapes today was she wants us all to be more like China.

newnamethanks · 17/08/2022 11:38

And why not? Who wouldn't want to live in a repressive one party state despised around the world? Who wouldn't want to be slung into a Labour Camp for having a wrong opinion? Utter paradise. Ask Hong Kong for starters.

mibbelucieachwell · 17/08/2022 14:25

So she's complaining about poor productivity, which hasn't improved under the past 12 years of Con governments.

Then she'd better get the government organised to invest in improved infrastructure: transport and broadband for a start. Reducing Brexit paperwork would also improve productivity. As would training and better education, including lifelong adult education. Better physical and mental health would help with productivity.

And giving watchdogs and regulators powers to force privately owned providers of essential human requirements ( heat, light and water for a start) to invest in repairs and improvements.

Cornettoninja · 17/08/2022 14:52

@mibbelucieachwell how dare you use common sense and logic to address an issue. That’s not the Tory way. You didn’t even leak it to stress test how popular it might be.

You’ll never make an MP. amateur.

Wink
Downnotdown · 17/08/2022 15:06

I can't believe Truss has the nerve to call the British public lazy when her boss Boris is one of the laziest creatures on this planet.

We'd all like to see a bit 'more graft' from the Tories in trying to sort out the diabolical mess this country is in. I've never in my lifetime known such a lazy, useless and worthless government as the one we currently have.

tobee · 17/08/2022 15:13

They won't be wanting lifelong adult education. That might mean the electorate might start thinking. And then who knows where the Tory party will be?

the80sweregreat · 17/08/2022 15:27

My friend and I are convinced liz Truss is going to be even worse than mrs Thatcher was :(
I honestly cannot put up with her for two years.
I actually feel ill at the thought of it tbh.
I know it's coming though.
I just hope it's not as bad as I fear it will be.
I have to cling on to something.

I reckon people assume other act the same way they would. So presumably she's lazy given half a chance. We know for sure that her current boss is.

I heard a discussion on this on the radio earlier. It was very interesting. They gave the example of an ambulance paramedic who only deals with 1 patient during their shift. Is that lack of productivity because the paramedic is lazy and needs to work harder or because the system is shit, making them wait outside the hospital for 7 hours?

Roussette · 17/08/2022 16:10

@mibbelucieachwell You've nailed it with your post. If only.....

In other news... I'm afraid I'm banging on about Freeports again. This is a well written piece on them. Liz Truss is mentioned in that it is obvious she Has. Not. Got. A. Clue. what she is doing and is at the mercy of her puppetmasters, the ERG.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/aug/17/freeport-turbocapitalism-tramples-over-british-democracy-teesside-plymouth?CMP=share_btn_tw

Very worrying indeed.

I was wanting Truss to win for the sake of Labour, but I have got to the point now that I want Sunak to win, however unlikely, because of the damage she is going to do to the country through her ignorance and malleability.

@Roussette . I've just read that article with a growing, sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach. When it said that the two greatest supporters were Truss and Sunak the scales fell from my eyes, even further, if that were possible. What can be done? When hardworking normal people (I see you Trussy) are beset with worries about food and heating there is no time or energy left to read up on what is happening in the UK. We have a fabulous country but our democracy is being dismantled in front of us by this wicked group of people. I can't help but think that something will happen soon to explain why we won't be putting up with this.
