New thread as needed.

I wonder what new promises will come out this week?

@Roussette . I've just read that article with a growing, sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach. When it said that the two greatest supporters were Truss and Sunak the scales fell from my eyes, even further, if that were possible. What can be done? When hardworking normal people (I see you Trussy) are beset with worries about food and heating there is no time or energy left to read up on what is happening in the UK. We have a fabulous country but our democracy is being dismantled in front of us by this wicked group of people. I can't help but think that something will happen soon to explain why we won't be putting up with this.

I am hoping. But I worry about some of the electorate who just don't care. until it's too late

Lobbying for Freeport’s does rather explain things like anyone paying £160k to play tennis (www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-43448559.amp) with that sack of shit or £120k for dinner with a bunch of PM’s who left in failure and/or disgrace.

In June, I asked @ukhomeoffice how much the cancelled deportation flight to Rwanda cost us. Two months later, they have replied, refusing to disclose the costs.

How can they just refuse to tell the public how much money of ours they are wasting on their unlawful actions?

Mick Lynch RMT talking on BBC. Oh my, that man talks sense. In just three sentences he has cut through this awful leadership contest and nailed what Grant Shapps is like and how he is putting the kibosh on any agreement.

"They are both short straws (speaking out Sunak and Truss), there is no choice, what we need is a GE and a Government who supports workers. The only block in resolving this crisis, is Grant Shapps who refuses negotitation"

In answer to the question as to the last time he sat round the negotiating table, he answered brusquely "yesterday and the day before".

How you would like that man on your side if you had a problem.

My fantasy political party includes Mick Lynch and Martin Lewis. There’s even a couple of ex-tories in there Wink

Yep, those two with a mixture of more of the better political figures across all the parties, would be wonderful.
Will never happen though , instead we are getting tax cutting Liz Truss :(

I feel like knowing the difference between right and wrong isn’t a massively high bar to hope for.

tobee · 18/08/2022 14:20

It is now. Everything has changed.

Sadly it's not a bar they can reach even at its current low level.

balalake · 18/08/2022 19:22

@itsgettingweird Possibly Rishi Sunak could reach it, but would struggle to fill a cabinet with people who did.

Roussette · 18/08/2022 19:58

An eye opener.

If only the TSSA had run the remainer campaign eh?

Notonthestairs · 18/08/2022 20:55

EXCLUSIVE: Foreign Secretary Liz Truss wanted to cut doctors’ pay by 10%, charge all patients to see their GP, and take an axe to the Royal Navy’s two aircraft carriers.

I don’t know about anyone else but this is so awful it’s beginning to feel like spoof. The prospect of the next two years is making me feel sick.

I agree. It feels both ominous and shambolic.

Truss will not attend the NFU hustings. Presumably because she believes she'll be criticised for policy/trade deals.

But Truss has a rural constituency. She should be ready and prepared for the sorts of questions they will ask.

It's exactly the same style of manoeuvre Johnson made before his election.

We are in for more of the same obfuscation & avoidance.

newnamethanks · 18/08/2022 22:38

I've just seen a map of today's A level passes. If the North still believes in Levelling Up, and all the other old guff they've swallowed from this bunch of spivs and chancers, then I despair. As cheesemonger Liz would say. IT'S A DISGRACE.

newnamethanks · 18/08/2022 22:44

Liz Truss will not go near the very sane and balanced leader of the NFU - name escapes me - who can argue her case with ease. Truss has neither the guts to face her nor a rational response to the many questions she would raise.

Blossomtoes · 18/08/2022 22:51

Minette Batters is very impressive, it’s a shame she’s not an MP.

newnamethanks · 18/08/2022 23:26

That's her, thank you Blossomtoes. Knocks LT into a cocked hat. Have just spent ten minutes reading the Ryan Giggs thread. Some very scurrilous creative writing on there, cheered me up immensely.

Roussette · 19/08/2022 06:49

Minette Batters is great, as is Liz Webster (we follow each other on Twitter) a LD farming advocate with a lot of knowledge. She was up against my useless Tory MP in 2019, and wiped the floor with him at the hustings that I went to. Sadly it's ingrained to have a Tory MP where I live.

Truss hasn't a clue about farming.

Just thinking exactly the same thing.

Roussette · 20/08/2022 07:30

So depressing

here

Truss and Sunak's transparency record is appalling.

Novum · 20/08/2022 09:20

Gove obviously isn't expecting to get a cabinet post under Truss - www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/aug/19/gove-backs-sunak-and-says-truss-taking-holiday-from-reality

balalake · 20/08/2022 09:22

Michael Gove may be the rudest man in politics, but of all the Tories he is one of the few with a clue how to get things done. So Ben Wallace could end up being the sole competent cabinet minister.

Novum · 20/08/2022 09:29

If Truss doesn't listen to the likes of Gove and Sunak and build some bridges, she'll have two years of barracking from her own back benches to deal with as well as Starmer and the opposition tying her in knots from the other side of the House.
