Anyone else already looking forward to winter?

I'm not normally one to wish seasons away, but I caught myself this morning daydreaming about Christmas while I washed the dishes.

Then I opened the pan drawer and saw my big heavy stew pan, and got all excited about making stews and soups...

And somehow I found myself ordering a snuggly dressing gown online, ready for cosy mornings when there's a chill in the air.

What in the world is going on? Anyone else unwittingly slipped into cold-weather excitement? And if you have too, what are you looking forward to?

Worth saying so as not to drip-feed: I live in a hot country. It's flipping ROASTING here now and even in the depths of winter, anyone from the UK would say it wasn't that cold. None of the houses have heating, so I'm not facing rising fuel costs, etc. – I don't mean this question to be insensitive to those who are fearing the arrival of winter for financial reasons.

I always dream of Winter , I love it.

WaitingForWinter1 · 08/08/2022 17:30

As per my username.............

Nekomata · 08/08/2022 17:30

My son said it's just over 4 months til Christmas and I was shocked!

I'm not really looking forward to winter, but I do love autumn. The leaves changing color, not too hot and not too cold, halloween, etc.

BringOnSummerHolidays · 08/08/2022 17:30

No, as per my username.

I love a good summer. Also, I don't want to see my bills come October.

BlueKaftan · 08/08/2022 17:31

No I can’t honestly say I’m looking forward to 9 months of rain, cold, and grey skies. My friend sent me pictures today of her family holiday in Cornwall, the first in two years, and her children are running around on the beach and having a wonderful time. Cold weather hogs are the worst.

LubaLuca · 08/08/2022 17:34

Not really. I like all the seasons for different reasons but I think Britain is going to have a miserable time this winter so I'm not looking forward to it. January and February had better be unseasonably warm or it will be really shit for lots of people.

NotEnoughMud · 08/08/2022 17:34

Cost of electricity? Definitely not!

AchillesLastStand · 08/08/2022 17:35

I love the autumn and winter and really looking forward to cold days snuggled under my heated throw. I’ve already bought new slipper boots in anticipation! However, I’m not looking forward to the economic chaos the autumn will unleash.

Mushroo · 08/08/2022 17:35

Me! I think august is my least favourite month (or maybe January) but in the NW august is usually wet and muggy and I’m just ready for September.

I think it harks back to school days, September seems to hold the promise of new routines, nice stationery and autumn leaves.

Ive booked a UK holiday for October and I’m so excited for big walks, roasts, stews, a proper fire and scarves.

DeborahVance · 08/08/2022 17:36

No, I'm absolutely dreading it

Bluevelvetsofa · 08/08/2022 17:40

No, never ever. Winter has absolutely nothing to recommend it.

9 months? Sept- June is rain and cold, grey skies?

MegaClutterSlut · 08/08/2022 17:45

Besides the fuel costs I love autumn/winter. Summer is my least favourite season

Dougieowner · 08/08/2022 17:47

Looking forward to the end of this hot, dry summer. Have never liked the heat and spring & autumn have always been my preferred seasons.
Winter will be a new experience this time around. Normally I am very aware of the (sometimes) awful weather it can bring and the problems it can cause to my commute but I retire at the end of the year so instead will be looking at it more as an observer and choosing the best time to take the dog out, go for the shopping etc.
I have to admit, I like getting wrapped up and going for a nice walk on a crisp day, not so much fun in the rain but for leisure pursuits it is just a case of wearing the correct clothing.
Certainly I would rather walk in the winter than the summer so yes, I am with you OP.

SecretVictoria · 08/08/2022 17:48

No, winter has zero appeal. Cold/wet/windy and grey. Grim. The only good thing is I don’t have to put up with kids playing outside and screaming all evening.

Chakraleaf · 08/08/2022 17:51

I swim all year round and winter swims are the best (before fuel prices rised)

PaddleBoardingMomma · 08/08/2022 17:52

Well...

I've loved this summer. We've managed to so much as a family outdoors, 5 weeks of holidays and beaches (in the UK) it's been blissful...

But...

This afternoon I found myself at the till in marks and Spencer's with arm fulls of warm kids clothes for my girls, padded jackets and boots. I've bought candles, bath oils, and a velvet throw for the sofa...

Now I'm sat here day dreaming about autumn and winter too and just happened to see this thread, must be something in the air! I swore blind I wouldn't look forward to the seasons changing as this summer has been so great, but here I am...

Decidualcast · 08/08/2022 17:52

I do love the coziness of winter and being able to wear my lovely knitwear and coats. I also love the feeling of getting into a freezing bed. However, I think it will be a tough winter to enjoy knowing so many will be suffering terribly. And of course, the bills landing.

Bluergh... I'd mentally blocked out that part, stop coming on here posting facts!

BellaLab · 08/08/2022 17:54

No. I hate the short days, the cold and the snow. I really struggle in winter.

Holidaydreamingagain · 08/08/2022 17:54

Absolutely not. These weeks of lovely weather have been heaven.

user1497787065 · 08/08/2022 18:00

Can't wait for cold, dark nights.
Curtains drawn, lamps on at 4pm.

Fed up of hot days, sleepless nights because it's too hot.

I would also add not looking forward to increasing electricity and heating oil bills that go alongside.

yonce · 08/08/2022 18:02

I cannot wait!!! So excited, it's nearly fall and then it's basically Christmas!

Burnt0utMum · 08/08/2022 18:03

Me! I always look forward to the cooler weather approaching. Autumn and Winter are definitely the best times of year. I'm dying to start putting up my Autumn decor and have already bought a few new bits, which will all be going up in early September. I don't cope well in the heat like today. It's just too warm to get anything done and the long bright days mean I can't settle down for a cosy evening in the same way as in the winter. Can't wait to start batch cooking warming stews and getting wrapped up in a blanket with a hot drink in a festive mug and watching Hallmark movies.

MeanderingGently · 08/08/2022 18:03

I absolutely hate summer....the heat, the sunshine, everything about it. Well, I suppose I do like leaves on the trees and flowers, but that's about it.

I can't wait for days of rain; for crisp, cold nights; for frost and ice and snow...bring it on....!!
