Anyone else already looking forward to winter?

I'm not normally one to wish seasons away, but I caught myself this morning daydreaming about Christmas while I washed the dishes.

Then I opened the pan drawer and saw my big heavy stew pan, and got all excited about making stews and soups...

And somehow I found myself ordering a snuggly dressing gown online, ready for cosy mornings when there's a chill in the air.

What in the world is going on? Anyone else unwittingly slipped into cold-weather excitement? And if you have too, what are you looking forward to?

Worth saying so as not to drip-feed: I live in a hot country. It's flipping ROASTING here now and even in the depths of winter, anyone from the UK would say it wasn't that cold. None of the houses have heating, so I'm not facing rising fuel costs, etc. – I don't mean this question to be insensitive to those who are fearing the arrival of winter for financial reasons.

I like to think I’ve got my liking of the seasons down to a tee now. I like spring and am enjoying the UK hot summer (with the possible exception of the 40c days), lots of light, barbecues, trips out etc. but I am looking forward to the cool of autumn and, as pp have said, all the dates to celebrate such as Halloween and Bonfire Night. Then Christmas, very cosy and - hurray - able to see friends now as we normally would (we hope anyway!). I think I’d be pretty miserable if I hated any of the seasons, each year would feel as though I was just wishing time away to get to the bits I like ☹️

God no, it’s beautiful here, the garden and patio is full of flowers, we can eat outside and sit there for hours with some wine, rhe sun shining the weather warm, we have no heating bills.

i don’t want to be spending hundreds a month on heating, eating heavy foods, wearing heavy clothes, looking out at the dark miserable cold wet night. Nope.

Yeah I think that’s it for me too - there’s just something so oppressive about winter

I just posted this on the thread about autumn. ‘It’s currently 26 degrees in our flat, which is the coolest it has been all day. No outside space. I haven’t had a decent nights sleep in weeks. I think I’m menopausal so if I wasn’t sleeping on towels, I’d have to change my bedding on a daily basis. My ankles have swollen up in the heat. I’m constantly clammy. There are swarms of wasps everywhere. I have 3 fans on which are just blowing hot air at me. I’m miserable. Roll on autumn, where you start at a reasonable temperature and can then add or take off clothing until you get comfortable. No sweating unless you want to. You can put the slow cooker on in the morning and it’s not too hot to eat when you get home. Going for walks is nicer. Chocolate doesn’t melt before you get a chance to eat it. They have log fires in nice country pubs. Christmas is on the horizon. I’m counting down the days!’

I like the cold, wet weather and being indoors with lamps on, all warm and cosy. I like going for walks in that rain that soaks you through. I like winter clothes and big, clompy boots. We’re on pre payment meters so I’ve been spending every spare penny topping them up throughout the summer and one of the benefits of living in a sweat box flat is the really low heating bills in the winter, so I’m not particularly worried about being cold. All you summer people who dread the winter, that’s how lots of us feel about the summer.

I'm with you on the winter clothing. Love walking with the leaves blowing around me & the grey skies. Winter is bliss!

I think the issue is that summer is so short, 6 - 8 weeks of really decent weather at the most. Barely enough to build up my vit D! Then it's back to mediocrity and then cold and/or wet for the rest of the year. So people who like winter are onto a far better thing than those of us who really suffer with it. To appreciate winter SAD if you don't like warm weather you need to imagine a 40 - 45 week summer.

When I think of the winter coming I imagine us living in our beds like Charlie Bucket’s family, but with iPads, because the house will be too cold to want to do anything!

But seriously, I’m looking forward to being cosy and binge-watching, writing, reading, drawing, etc. I do wonder if we’ll be able to afford roast dinners and the copious amounts of cheese, crackers, pickled onions and chocolates that usually get us through the darkest days.

I also love just popping on a huge coat to go out!

On the other side of the world and a 2 degree morning in Melbourne !!! Jesus it's cold, but beautifully sunny. Am taking delivery of a sales Oodie today.

It's been a decent winter in terms of plenty of rain (good for the water systems) plenty of sun ( good for my mood) but my God, so cold.

So I'm looking forward to summer. 😎

The Oodie has landed. By heck it's an unhandsome object, even in black, but needs must.Grin

If anyone hates winter - two things that help me are the age old sauna, truly restorative and clearly a reason that’s made it down the ages! And, controversial but a 4 minute (that’s all you need!) standing up sun bed, literally maybe once a month through winter.

Sauna is bliss, not going to be able to afford to heat ours much this winter though as its electric. Going to have to see the neighbours will let us join them in their wood heated sauna!
