What do you buy too much of?

Just lighthearted as I can't sleep

I'll start - I buy way too many books.
I love to read but on my last count I have 518 on my bookshelf. I've cut back on spending now and am getting them from bookswaps instead

So what's your thing?

Books.
Clothes.
Kitchen gadgets - although the latest, an ice-cream maker, is an absolute belter, so no regrets there.
Trainers.
Gym gear.
Perfume.

I could go on. I’m a shopaholic, to my shame.

ReeseWitherfork · 29/07/2022 03:14

Do you read the books OP? I think if some sort of Tsundoku Anonymous started there would be a lot of takers. I buy too many cereal bars. I need to start picking up an apple when I’m peckish and not a cereal bar.

3luckystars · 29/07/2022 03:15

Fabric.

I buy patterns and fabric and have amazing plans but no time to make anything

saturdaysgoodwithme · 29/07/2022 03:21

@ReeseWitherfork oh yes I read them but not as fast as I could when I had one child.

Now I have three so can only get through about 4 pages before bed and then the books falls on my face lol
I also think what's holding me up is me wanting to finish the book even though I'm not enjoying it. I'm working on that.

I buy cereal bars with good intentions but then I forget about them in the cupboard lol

@ShirleyJackson whenever someone goes on holiday I ask them to bring me back a fridge magnet so I totally get you 😊

I'm totally addicted to skincare, I've started to follow Caroline hirons. My menopausal skin is starting to look so much better, my daughters in to it too as she has eczema and psoriasis so we spend our time discussing it d swapping products .

almondflake · 29/07/2022 03:36

Oh I forgot to say crochet, I have a yarn addiction too 😂

Arenanewbie · 29/07/2022 03:38

Lock and lock containers.

Arenanewbie · 29/07/2022 03:47

Sorry posted too soon. I like to have the right size container for everything, atm they take up a lot of space in the big cupboard and I’m still thinking of buying more. I’d love a new small one to fit a cupcake.

Rina66 · 29/07/2022 03:59

Clothes, make up and hair products. I like to try all the new innovations that promise amazing things, most don't deliver but I still don't learn! I see it as my hobby, I don't drink, smoke or go to the gym although I've recently got in to gardening, so perhaps I'll be weaning myself off of the fashion and beauty industry.

Earlymenopausesucks · 29/07/2022 04:02

Clothes for the DC’s. It’s actually shameful.

When packing for our summer holiday we discovered that DD10 has 34 complete summer outfits before we even start to mix and match things 😳.

Pyewhacket · 29/07/2022 04:20

Prosecco !.

christmas2022 · 29/07/2022 04:31

Gym gear when I never go to the gym.

Went through a skin care / beauty phase and now trying to work my way through it all so I can just have the few bare essentials.

I've hand a handbag and sandals stage when too big (for me) to feel good buying clothes.

I LOVE stationery, always have, so have accumulated for too many notepads, diaries and other writing papers / pens etc.

I do now try to be more mindful of what I'm buying as trying to live more clutter free and the charity shop / tip runs trying to clear out my crap isn't good.

LunaTheCat · 29/07/2022 04:35

Cardigans- I just bought another this am.
I have heaps. I buy one really nice one every season.
I had admired this new purchase early in season but too expensive but snapped up in sale this morning.

Lightning020 · 29/07/2022 05:35

Skincare. I just love it and always have. Right from the age of 15 I have been doing the full routine morning and evening.

I am 58 now and needless to say my skin looks fabulous. Though I do enjoy good genes.

Solosunrise · 29/07/2022 05:40

Books! I did not know there was a name for this, but Tsundoku Anonymous would be perfect for me. Every day is a school day @ReeseWitherfork 😆

Drevere · 29/07/2022 05:50

Yes much the same with regards to reading them. I‘ve got wonderful intentions but children and stubbornness get in the way. I hate not finishing one that I’ve started; have been trying to plough through The Last Thing He Told Me for months now when I should just give up.

JennyForeigner · 29/07/2022 06:17

Rye flour apparently. In a recent clear out I had four bags.

No-one in the family will eat the resulting worthwhile bread.

NanaNelly · 29/07/2022 06:20

Pasta. Especially artisan stuff. I love all the different shapes and sizes and flavors. I spend many happy hours cooking different sauces up for each of them.

Can you recommend some nice brands that don’t look ‘old’.

thank you.

Pasta has different flavours?!
Wow I've lived a sheltered life. I only know white and wholemeal.

JasmineTeacup · 29/07/2022 07:26

Plants. So many plants!

toastinateapot · 29/07/2022 07:49

Another stationery addict here - I have more notebooks than I’ll ever use.

Wherearemyspex · 29/07/2022 07:55

Clothes from charity shops!! I took three bags full back at the weekend .... can't resist a bargain!
