What do you buy too much of?

Just lighthearted as I can't sleep

I'll start - I buy way too many books.
I love to read but on my last count I have 518 on my bookshelf. I've cut back on spending now and am getting them from bookswaps instead

So what's your thing?

Well today it was cleansing balm. The biggest tub was eye wateringingly expensive but worked out at 50% cheaper, so I now own a 450ml tub. I'm going to decant but will also put a date on it to see how many years it lasts me!

Titsflyingsouth · 29/07/2022 16:59

Fabric, craft kits and wool. It's an affliction.

Titsflyingsouth · 29/07/2022 17:00

I LOVE stationery, always have, so have accumulated for too many notepads, diaries and other writing papers / pens etc.

This too. God I love a lovely notebook...

hammerandtong · 29/07/2022 17:19

For me it’s totes. When I travel I always seem to come home with a couple especially if I’m somewhere that I really love such as the UK !!

Thursa · 29/07/2022 18:09

Dog toys
Dog treats
Books
Magazines
Food.

I think the overbuying of food is due to growing up with empty kitchen cupboards and having a fear of it happening again and not being able to feed my kids.

Brigante9 · 29/07/2022 19:09

Tins of soup
Salad

I’m an idiot for shoes, too.

downtonupton · 29/07/2022 20:36

sandals
gin
crochet kits/yarn

Mrsfussypants1 · 29/07/2022 13:10

@HannahSternDefoe it's a shirt/jacket I've got soft loungewear ones from Next to wear indoors. You defo don't need one unless your going for a lumberjack look like me!

Ah, I'm ahead of the curve with that and still have some brushed cotton lumberjack checked shirts from the 90s...😂

saturdaysgoodwithme · 29/07/2022 23:12

@rightonthyme - hahaha love it!

@HastaLaBisto - yes yes yes! My problem entirely.
In the US apparently you can return opened hair care if they don't suit you (I read it on insta so I'm not sure how true this is) but I would have quite a great refund if I could return half of the products that don't work for my hair.
All this trial and error is bad for my pocket

@ReeseWitherfork I keep looking at Nigellas Lasagne of Love but can't commit that much time! I recently bought the Santosh Shah book and the food looks amazing but even getting the Nepalese ingredients is time conscious so who knows if I'll ever make anything 🤷‍♀️

I’ve just looked this up... how elaborate! Her website claims she is making it for childrens birthday celebrations. So quite far from the nuggets the rest of us are chucking in the oven.

HelenHywater · 30/07/2022 07:15

black clothes. I really must stop.

black clothes. I really must stop.

Oh I am exactly the same.

I'm rubbish at matching colours and worry that if a buy something say green, I won't be able to wear many other things with it.

itsthesoundofthepolice · 30/07/2022 07:23

Make up/skincare.
Perfume
Jeans
sweets & crisps

LovelyDaaling · 30/07/2022 08:48

Scarves and chocolate.
Scarves- first priority when I'm in a charity shop. Just can't help myself but at least they don't take up my room.

withiceplease · 30/07/2022 09:10

DH feels the constant need to stock up on paracetamol/ibuprofen/cold and flu relief. Drives me up the wall. We have so so much!

WhatsInAMolatovMocktail · 30/07/2022 09:11

Mugs. Glasses. I don’t need 30 plates, so why do I need so many glasses and mugs? It is illogical.

Yes but remember years ago the mumsnetter whose dh had an obsession with stocking up on loo rolls; she put on a photo of her cupboard piled high with them. I often thought of her when Covid struck and we were all panicking about toilet paper 😆

Catsmere · 05/04/2023 22:43

Used to be books, now it’s knitting yarn. Which is even more expensive.

PogoThePunk · 05/04/2023 23:17

Drinking glasses. I can't resist them. I have boxes of them in cupboards and I still can't resist them.
Also kitchenware, I don't know why because I rarely cook and never bake, yet my kitchen cupboards are busting at the seams with the stuff.
I have a cupboard full of pans of all sizes which have never seen the light of day.
I think I need help!

mackthepony · 06/04/2023 02:36

Scarves

Socks

mackthepony · 06/04/2023 02:36

Oh, mugs as well

msssm · 06/04/2023 03:00

Books, even though menopause has ensured that I don't have the concentration to read any more!

Candles, and face creams.

Speedweed · 06/04/2023 03:14

Books - this year my resolution is no buying more books (although free libraries don't count).

Soap. It takes me about a year to get through a bar, so I appear to have enough to last me until retirement.

Sainsburys clothes - they always seem so nice and cheap too, but when I get them home they are never quite right after the first wear, so languish in my wardobe before being taken to the charity shop.

eloquent · 06/04/2023 03:21

Just stuff in general that I don't need
