Most middle class family holiday destination? (just for fun!)

I haven't spotted a middle class thread all week so thought I'd start one just for fun 😜
In your opinion what are the most middle class or umc holiday spots?
Summer:
Any part of France (extra posh if you have friends or family who have a house to put you & the kids up in!)
Italian Lakes
Greek Islands

Winter
Barbados or similar Caribbean Island
Skiing in the Austrian, Swiss or French Akps (wealthiest go to Switzerland)
Christmas markets

This is just for fun & based on the wealthier middle class families I know! They all seem to go to the same places!

Backpacking in Loas/Cambodia/Vietnam. Yes, we are that pretentious family Grin

My son is backpacking there as we speak 😊🤦‍♀️

CockSpadget · 21/07/2022 19:26

Why is France regarded as a middle class holiday destination?

haveyouopenedyourbowelstoday · 21/07/2022 19:27

I love that people have put Pembrokeshire. Tenby is sooooo MC!! North Pembs though? Completely agree!

Abersoch. I think half of Cheshire decamps there each summer. Grin

Abersoch? Really? Changed a bit from when my mum and dad used to take me for cheap n cheerful bnb hols in the 60s.

TravellingSpoon · 21/07/2022 19:29

Its MC to holiday in some places of the UK, mainly parts of the Cornwall/Devon Joules-belt, or North Norfolk. Some part of South Wales too.

For extra MC points you need to scoff at anyone who wants to go abroad, especially if they go AI.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned Burnham Market. If the well to do middle classes have a smell, it’s Burnham Market in the summer. More specifically, in Summer ‘21 the smell of bitter disappointment of not being in Sarlat two years in a row ( and how did Minty from prep school manage to get to her villa in Corfu?)

I love Chatham, it is one of my favourite family holiday spots ( if a little niche). I was treated like a celebrity by Girl Scouts on account of sounding just like ‘Duchess Kate.’ We quite often go to New England. It takes not much longer than much of Europe and feels like America on its very best behaviour.

This year we are staying in at FIL’s in the French Alps then in a villa just outside Carcasonne. Quite frankly I’d spend a fortnight in an ELeclerc car park, provided it’s not in Burnham fucking Market again.

UnnecessaryFennel · 21/07/2022 19:45

Dubai?? Hardly.

Norfolk, eg a lovely long weekend in Burnham Market
Villefranche-sur-Mer (not Nice) / Noirmoutier/Il de Re/La Rochelle
Mallorca (but not Magaluf)
Northumberland
'A friend's place in the Highlands'
Umbria (not Tuscany)

😂perfect cross-posts!

Ryanstartedthefire2 · 21/07/2022 19:48

In Scotland a lot of them go to Elie in Fife.

CanYouNotReadTheSign · 21/07/2022 19:52

Glad my ancestral home (St Kitts) made the list! I've sailed around the Greek Islands, which I thought was vair naice. Holidaying in the Scottish Highlands and camping in Devon, always struck me as very middle class.

Skoolsout · 21/07/2022 18:46

Has anyone mentioned Centre Parcs? That’s got to be in the list.

This was the first thing that came to mind

AppleHa · 21/07/2022 19:57

You say Southwold, but I raise you Walberswick.

Why is France regarded as a middle class holiday destination?

It totally depends on where in France and whether you are staying in a private house. Staying in a hotel in Nice is not a high end choice. A private house in the hills behind Cannes and Antibes is.

Jewelanemone · 21/07/2022 20:06

How about diving holidays in Cornwall, Scotland and Indonesia?

Shannith · 21/07/2022 20:09

The house in France (Provence) for most of the summer
Skiing in Switzerland, France at a push
The house in Keyna in winter, pit stop at the family polo farm
Portugal, Greek islands, Naxos, Cornwall, South Africa, Croatia, Sardinia, Sicily, Italy, lakes and north, and riding holidays all over the UK.
