Most middle class family holiday destination? (just for fun!)

I haven't spotted a middle class thread all week so thought I'd start one just for fun 😜
In your opinion what are the most middle class or umc holiday spots?
Summer:
Any part of France (extra posh if you have friends or family who have a house to put you & the kids up in!)
Italian Lakes
Greek Islands

Winter
Barbados or similar Caribbean Island
Skiing in the Austrian, Swiss or French Akps (wealthiest go to Switzerland)
Christmas markets

This is just for fun & based on the wealthier middle class families I know! They all seem to go to the same places!

It’s all about the skiing but I’ve also noticed a trend of people summering in France, Cornwall etc. no idea how they’re getting the time off but it’s definitely a thing among the more monied in our school.

coolernow · 21/07/2022 21:15

My parents have a house near Carcassonne & it's definitely become more popular over the years. I'm not sure what class I am but I certainly can't afford ski, sun, city breaks all in the same yr!

FloodTheBathroom · 21/07/2022 21:15

I instantly thought of Salcombe, I've never been but just the people I know who go there, I would find it unbearable.
Bridport in Dorset was v popular a while back.
Bruton, for The Newt and Hauser & Worth

France for skiing - I think Meribel, Chamonix, Tignes and Courcheval are the "right" places.

Tuscany

A lot of people seem to be going to the Far East now for "adventures".

I honestly don't get the hype with Salcombe

FloodTheBathroom · 21/07/2022 21:16

Oh and Cornwall but St Ives, Port Isaac etc. Newquay and Hayle not so much. Love Hayle!

Beetlewings · 21/07/2022 21:16

Pembrokeshah and the dordogne

JohnPrescottsPyjamas · 21/07/2022 21:18

Gulf Coast of Florida. Naples, Sarasota.

Definitely not Orlando/Disney.

JohnPrescottsPyjamas · 21/07/2022 21:19

That’s Naples, Florida not Naples, Italy - although Italy probably is pretty MC!

Themsthebreak · 21/07/2022 21:19

Where do MC and UC go in winter if they don’t ski or don’t go to the Caribbean?

Summer:
Sardinia
Umbria
Italian lakes
Ile de re
Dordogne
Provence
Paxos
Menorca
Croatia
Salcombe
North Norfolk
Trebetherick (Went twice courtesy of friends but David Cameron kept getting our road shut so got fed up)
Also kept bumping into the Blairs in the Middle East (Egypt, Jerusalem, middle of the desert in Jordan) but not suggesting this is MC destination

Themsthebreak · 21/07/2022 21:20

Ooh and saw Boris on Capri one summer with his family when he was trying to avoid the press over some affair or other many years ago

Whatafool123 · 21/07/2022 21:22

Eweleaze is Boden central . Achingly middle class.

We are pretty middle class this year judging by this thread. House in North Norfolk at Easter with friends, North Cornwall for a week in August followed by a week in Provence and one at Lake Maggiore (driving and camping in each case admittedly).

We have had a weekend at a Haven holiday camp though, which isn’t quite so MC, although it was in Norfolk 😊. It was fab!

Elsiebear90 · 21/07/2022 21:23

Almost anywhere in France or Italy
Croatia
Any ski resort
Barbados
Cayman islands
Turks and Caicos
Safari in Africa
South Africa
Santorini (less so recently)
Mykonos
Smaller less known Greek islands like Naxos and Paxos
Seychelles
Madagascar

Love Carcassonne! V jealous 😃

JenniferBarkley · 21/07/2022 21:25

God I love MN. So many people queueing up to make sure we know that they're aware Dubai isn't posh. Grin

Croatia surprises me, we've been many times (got married there), usually because we didn't fancy shelling out for Italy. Grin Had no idea it was a MC marker. I'm not British though.

Strawberrypudding · 21/07/2022 21:29

Norfolk Broads
Lake District
Cottages in the middle of nowhere; either UK or abroad
Skiing in the Alps

coolernow · 21/07/2022 21:30

@Whatafool123 yes it pretty cool, the house was so cheap when bought yrs ago.

CocoC · 21/07/2022 21:32

France especially Ile de Re and Dordogne.
I don't think Greek Islands are especially middle class.

The biggest signal for me is whether people actually own a place there, vs renting. That's the ultimate in middle class!

Eeksteek · 21/07/2022 21:32

I don’t know what it’s like now, but I used to take DD to Eweleaze farm in Dorset. I loved it - solar showers, compost loos etc. loads of animal activities, and organic bakery, takeaway, pizza, ice cream, juice bar, crepe van etc. on site. DD loved the animals, but I have never seen so much Boden/Kipling/Merrel and heard so much discussion of other holidays skiing in Gstaard, various Caribbean islands or debate on school fees (last time I was there I got my own back on the over loud bragging from next door by offering them quails eggs we ‘wouldn’t use’ when we left as we were ‘flying to mummy’s place in France’. I’d been pet sitting a local friend’s quail on the way down, and Mummy’s French pad was a building site but they were so loud and pretentious I felt we deserved a bit of gentle ribbing at their expense!)

Falmouth is very Boden. I’m always surprised the Isle of Man isn’t more MC, but it’s very laid back.

Ohbuggeritsme · 21/07/2022 21:33

Ooooh I don't know where I stand with the "classes".

Our last few holidays have been:
Italy - Lake Idro (stayed in a villa with its own pool overlooking the lake)
Italy - (again) stayed in Venice in water front Hotel
Italy - (again!!) Stayed in a villa in Sicily
France - camping in Normandy and Brittany
France - City break in Rouen and Arras (not the same break
Mallorca - Sa Coma
Italy - Verona
This year we are driving to the South of France and staying in a rented cottage for 2 weeks.

Are we LC or Chad's?! Lol

weekfour · 21/07/2022 21:34

Was once at a kids party when the pirate asked where was hot....
Sevilla (pronounced correctly)
Antibes
Daddy's house

They were seven.

JetBlackSteed · 21/07/2022 21:44

Georgyporky · 21/07/2022 19:05

Greek islands ? Full of TUI peasants 😀

@Georgyporky not if it's a mark Warner or neilson resort!

GyozaGuiting · 21/07/2022 21:45

Greek Islands (but sailing to get about, each family member knowing how to sail too)
Skiing (I find French resorts are less MC these days and the proper posh are in Austria and Switzerland, extra points for cross country skiing)
Canoeing holidays
Bascially activities!
We once went to the Caribbean (Antigua) on an expensive holiday and the people there were NOT posh. People pissed by the pool at 10am, shouting by 2pm, kids left to roam… even though it was bloody expensive.

ginslinger · 21/07/2022 21:47

Dubai is most definitely not middle class.

Cornwall, Llyn peninsula in wales and Pembrokeshire along with bits of scotland. Abroad you'd be looking at slovenia, parts of Italy and France

LakieLady · 21/07/2022 22:01

ProfYaffle · 21/07/2022 18:27

I'll add Thorpeness and Southwold to the suffolk ones!

My late DP and I went to Suffolk a couple of years ago. In Southwold, he commented that it was like Salcombe, but flat.

bevelino · 21/07/2022 22:05

I went to Dubai recently just to see what all the fuss was about. I stayed in a very high end hotel but I would not say it was full of mc people but it was civilised and very expensive. That said, there are plenty of budget, party hotels in Dubai if that floats your boat.

I have also been to Barbados and other places in the Caribbean which are lovely and suit all. Also Italy, Spain and France are places where everyone is welcome whatever your budget.
