Naked cycle ride in my town today

We have a naked cycle ride through our local town this afternoon.
Apparently, it’s a protest against car usage.
This has been a thing for several years now (with a hiatus over the last two years).
About 4 years back my, (at the time), 10 year old dd pointed these people out to me when we were walking near the town one day. We stood there whilst a load of (mainly) middles aged and older men cycled past completely naked.
I have no issue with body image and my kids have grown up not to be ashamed of their bodies/nakedness etc but I don’t think it’s on for naked strangers to be cycling past young children with everything on show.
I am all for protesting and especially global warming/climate control issues but wouldn’t it be better to be done in a more fun/carnival-type way where they can involve all ages and the protesters could stop and talk to people and express their concerns, hand over leaflets with tips and advice to reduce car use etc? This seems a bit pointless, I mean, who would want to stop and chat to naked 60 year old Bob about his concerns over global warming while his cock and balls are sat there flopped over the bike seat, no thanks!
I don’t know if this is a country-wide protest but it’s coming to another nearby town in a few weeks.
Has anyone else seen this in their town? Do you have any thoughts about it?

There's one in London every year
i think it's grim and gross too.

Lockheart · 16/07/2022 11:13

If you don't want to see it then I'm sure it's not impossible to avoid the route for the few hours it's happening.

ofwarren · 16/07/2022 11:14

I agree with you
There will be posters coming on to say you are clutching your pearls though.

I really don't want to be forced to see others genitalia.

Soubriquet · 16/07/2022 11:15

Ooo I wouldn’t want to do it in this heat. Imagine getting sun burned on your fishing tackle?

The nakedness wouldn’t bother me though. It’s just a body.

It’s not sexual unless you sexualise it

But you're not being forced. You can not look, not go near the route etc. It's not mandatory to attend.

BiscoffSundae · 16/07/2022 11:16

I noticed this on my local news page a little while back and I just thought gross I read it wrong at first and thought it said naked bus ride 🫣 but both are just disgusting no one needs to see that.

ImShrunk · 16/07/2022 11:17

I’m sure you can look away before that happens. If you can’t then try Google to see how to move your head in different directions.

Stroopwaffle5000 · 16/07/2022 11:20

I agree with you OP. I'm by no means a prude but I think it's completely unnecessary and inappropriate. Where I live it mostly seems to be men over 60 who join in which is not pleasant to see. I know people say just to avoid the area but on one occasion I couldn't as DD had a dance class. She felt really uncomfortable!!

JustlookingNotbuying · 16/07/2022 11:20

Lockheart Of course we can loom away or go elsewhere but the problem is that they don’t advertise the protest well. The only reason I have discovered it’s on today is because someone had posted it on my FB feed. When we were out 4 years ago, again I had no idea. I0 year old dd and I were strolling down a road an all of a sudden dozens of naked men came cycling past. Kind of unprepared for that!
Luckily, I won’t be in town today so will avoid.

Is this what you say to victims of flashing?🤨

@JustlookingNotbuying you are not being unreasonable- random men flashing their bits in public is a crime -this isn’t a ‘protest’ it’s an offence.

JustlookingNotbuying · 16/07/2022 11:24

AintNoPartyLikeANumber10Party and the fact that the majority are men I can not but think it’s just a way for them to legally show off their naked bodies to all and sundry.

It's not an offence to be naked in public.

Section 66 Sexual Offences Act 2003 requires a person to intentionally expose their genitals and intend that someone will see them and be caused alarm or distress. It is triable either way. Depending on the age of the defendant and the sentence that is imposed, an offender may be subject to the notification provisions (the sex offender register).

The need to prove that the person exposed their genitals intending that someone will see them and be caused alarm or distress means that a naturist whose intention is limited to going about his or her lawful business (i.e protesting) naked will not be guilty of this offence.

Rosessmelllike · 16/07/2022 11:28

Hope theyve got plenty of suncream

DPotter · 16/07/2022 11:29

Ooo - the potential for chaffing .......

TeapotTitties · 16/07/2022 11:32

YANBU except for the blatant ageism. Are you saying you'd be happy to look at 'Bob's' cock and balls flopping about if he was younger than 60?

If not then his age is irrelevant, as is the fact they're mostly middle aged.

TiaraBoo · 16/07/2022 11:37

My first thought was sunburn and second thought was kids get to see normal (well real life) naked bodies not photoshopped ones for a few seconds as they cycle past.
Doesn’t happen in my town but once saw it in London. They didn’t stop to chat though.

JustlookingNotbuying · 16/07/2022 11:38

TeapotTitties no, I’m definitely not ageist, I’m 50. I said 60 as that appears to be the average kind of age of these people on the cycle protest.

We have a naked hiker who passes through every few years. It's never been hard to either avoid him or distract the children, when they were smaller, when he passed by. Once they were older they'd always risk a sneaky peek but they gave it away by sniggering.
I really couldn't get worked up about it, TBH. It doesn't like they're planning to wave their erect penises or masturbate as they pass by.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 16/07/2022 11:38

Op, I think you live near me. It's grim.

nzborn · 16/07/2022 11:42

So its legal to be nude in public but I don't want to see it whatever the excuse they use.
Many people will have no idea about it and have the opportunity to avoid it.

UnimpeachableBravery · 16/07/2022 11:43

Mumsnet: always turning things into something they are not.

ComDummings · 16/07/2022 11:44

Just an excuse for exhibitionists to get their kicks. Gross.

FourTeaFallOut · 16/07/2022 11:45

Grim. Just put some bloody clothes on and discuss climate change like grown ups.

Nobody’s forcing you to do anything. Avoid the route, stay at home, go somewhere else entirely, there are plenty of options open to you.
