Naked cycle ride in my town today

We have a naked cycle ride through our local town this afternoon.
Apparently, it’s a protest against car usage.
This has been a thing for several years now (with a hiatus over the last two years).
About 4 years back my, (at the time), 10 year old dd pointed these people out to me when we were walking near the town one day. We stood there whilst a load of (mainly) middles aged and older men cycled past completely naked.
I have no issue with body image and my kids have grown up not to be ashamed of their bodies/nakedness etc but I don’t think it’s on for naked strangers to be cycling past young children with everything on show.
I am all for protesting and especially global warming/climate control issues but wouldn’t it be better to be done in a more fun/carnival-type way where they can involve all ages and the protesters could stop and talk to people and express their concerns, hand over leaflets with tips and advice to reduce car use etc? This seems a bit pointless, I mean, who would want to stop and chat to naked 60 year old Bob about his concerns over global warming while his cock and balls are sat there flopped over the bike seat, no thanks!
I don’t know if this is a country-wide protest but it’s coming to another nearby town in a few weeks.
Has anyone else seen this in their town? Do you have any thoughts about it?

We have one in Bristol. In previous years it has started at the Full Moon pub...

Section 66 Sexual Offences Act 2003 requires a person to intentionally expose their genitals and intend that someone will see them and be caused alarm or distress.

If they weren't intending to cause alarm they'd do it clothed. They do it naked because it's what will get the most attention.

takeitandleaveit · 16/07/2022 11:47

Ugh. Basically.

Gentlemen's vegetables are not a pretty sight at the best of times, let alone when you unexpectedly come across them en masse when you are going about your daily life.

NippyWoowoo · 16/07/2022 11:48

🙄Biscuit

Didisquat · 16/07/2022 11:50

We saw this in London last year while we were enjoying a drink at the Hard Rock Cafe….. it’s was not a pretty sight. Kids just thought it was funny

starrynight21 · 16/07/2022 11:52

Gross to think of all those bike saddles when grotty old men have been sitting naked on them.

whynotwhatknot · 16/07/2022 11:54

if its not ilegal why is that naked rambler bloke always getting arrested

Attracting attention is not the same as causing alarm.

In my hometown in the UK, this is a 'thing' now too. it's always older men who are involved. It's creepy and inappropriate in my opinion. They also have a hiking group where they go on naked hikes through the countryside which I think is awful - it's almost exclusively men and they're walking through areas where families and lone women go to walk dogs, not expected to come across a mob of naked men.

There's also a couple of these men who insist on going to local pubs to watch bands play and get naked and dance. Often they're asked to leave which they think it outrageous.

They also played naked pool a few times in a pub that I used to work in. To get to the loos, people had to shimmy around them bending over naked to take their shot. They were asked to leave pretty promptly too, but were really upset and didn't understand why their behaviour might be upsetting or intimidating. I was never brave enough to confront them personally, only our male manager was.

I do believe that they don't mean harm. They all seem perfectly pleasant men. But even the sight of them naked in mobs made me feel anxious, shaky and even sometimes (on more quiet nights in the pub) a bit tearful. Clothed, no problem. Naked, I felt afraid.

Is this something society needs to get over? Or is it something they need to accept? I suppose it's just a difference of opinion. I can't imagine I'll ever feel comfortable seeing swarms of naked men coming towards me, but maybe that's just my problem, like they think.

Yeah cause everyone knows lovely young women's arses are much better...

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/07/2022 12:00

Just an excuse for exhibitionists to get their kicks. Gross.

Yep

littlefireseverywhere · 16/07/2022 12:03

I’m a cyclist & I love wandering round the house naked,( when no DC around and must say we’re not overlooked!) but the two together fills me with horror!

SRS29 · 16/07/2022 12:03

I've always thought what a bunch of perverts, male or female....really gross.

Stroopwaffle5000 · 16/07/2022 11:20

I agree with you OP. I'm by no means a prude but I think it's completely unnecessary and inappropriate. Where I live it mostly seems to be men over 60 who join in which is not pleasant to see. I know people say just to avoid the area but on one occasion I couldn't as DD had a dance class. She felt really uncomfortable!!

This. ^ I agree @JustlookingNotbuying it's a bit weird. Confused What kind of person DOES this (or enjoys watching it?) Shock

Also, as you say, it does seem to be people of a certain age who do this 'naturist' stuff. Mostly people over 55. (And moreso men!) Don't see attractive young 20-40 year olds doing it. Very strange. Wink

And no I am NOT being 'ageist' before anyone starts. Just stating a fact. You NEVER see people under middle age doing this 'naturist' type stuff. (Well, very rarely anyway.) The only situation I can think of where young people do similar is Naked Attraction. And even that is only a small handful, not 1000s and 1000s.

You say that sarcastically, but young womens arses very likely WILL be better.

Stravaig · 16/07/2022 12:05

There's a long history of clothing-optional bike rides, OP, including the World Naked Bike Ride. Environmental causes usually.

I have positive associations, but then I've lived places where Critical Mass rides are a regular thing.

I think we're taking a wrong turn with body positivity if we're normalising obesity but can't handle nakedness.

As a cyclist, I promise you, naked cycling is unlikely to catch on!

ofwarren · 16/07/2022 12:10

Lockheart · 16/07/2022 11:15

But you're not being forced. You can not look, not go near the route etc. It's not mandatory to attend.

You don't always know its on though. I've been caught out with one in the town near where I live.

I think it’s because at a younger age we are more self conscious of our bodies. By the time we get to 50 plus, we couldn’t care less about our wobbly bits

Blossomtoes · 16/07/2022 11:46

Nobody’s forcing you to do anything. Avoid the route, stay at home, go somewhere else entirely, there are plenty of options open to you.

So what happens when you don't know it's on?
I don't follow when the naked bike rides are 🙄

In the extremely unlikely event that you encounter one, you immediately do one of the things I suggested. 🙄

rwalker · 16/07/2022 12:12

Whilst you are deeply offended other will be amused or couldn’t careless
you can’t please everyone just avoid bit as u know where it is

on the off chance You bump into them obviously have your lace hanky and smelling salts

serm very much like those people who watch a full episode if naked attraction then complain about it

MajorCarolDanvers · 16/07/2022 12:13

I think I will close the curtains that day.

It must be rather uncomfortable you'd think.

TitInATrance · 16/07/2022 12:17

I think it’s gross and the concept of exposing oneself in protest against the actions of other seems very suspect.

On the other hand, I’m old enough to have seen a few 60 year olds naked or nearly so, and don’t find them any more objectionable than any other aged adult of the same sex.

Farmhouse1234 · 16/07/2022 12:18

If I were to walk down the road in our town butt naked, perfectly happy minding my own business, for an hour or so - wouldn’t I be arrested? Surely I would right?

SpacePotato · 16/07/2022 12:18

There is no need at all for them to be naked though. They are just using the 'protest' as an excuse to normalize getting their dick out in public.

Exposing their genitals is completely unnecessary.
