Naked cycle ride in my town today

JustlookingNotbuying · 16/07/2022 11:09

We have a naked cycle ride through our local town this afternoon.
Apparently, it’s a protest against car usage.
This has been a thing for several years now (with a hiatus over the last two years).
About 4 years back my, (at the time), 10 year old dd pointed these people out to me when we were walking near the town one day. We stood there whilst a load of (mainly) middles aged and older men cycled past completely naked.
I have no issue with body image and my kids have grown up not to be ashamed of their bodies/nakedness etc but I don’t think it’s on for naked strangers to be cycling past young children with everything on show.
I am all for protesting and especially global warming/climate control issues but wouldn’t it be better to be done in a more fun/carnival-type way where they can involve all ages and the protesters could stop and talk to people and express their concerns, hand over leaflets with tips and advice to reduce car use etc? This seems a bit pointless, I mean, who would want to stop and chat to naked 60 year old Bob about his concerns over global warming while his cock and balls are sat there flopped over the bike seat, no thanks!
I don’t know if this is a country-wide protest but it’s coming to another nearby town in a few weeks.
Has anyone else seen this in their town? Do you have any thoughts about it?

I can. A size eighteen woman in crop-top and Lycra on a hot day is worse than a slim naked cyclist of either sex.

Different people find different things offensive, a rare naked ride for a good cause is not anywhere near the top of my list.

You must have seen me on the way to/back from the gym this morning, then.

Difference is, I was like that (with all my primary and secondary sexual characteristic covered with clothing) because I had been wearing appropriate clothing for the gym. I wasn't doing it to get people to see my vulva in the guise of it 'being for the children' or shits and giggles sexual satisfaction.

To you maybe...It's not about what's more aesthetically pleasing anyway. It's about decency.

Oh please. Must we say such nasty misogynistic stuff? It really isn’t necessary.

Oh brill, they're all doing kids a favour by being naked now. Two birds one stone, saving the planet and acclimatising kids to nakedness, one skid mark at a time. They're the real heroes.

I doubt everyone would be so cool if dislikeable people used it as a tactic. Naked fascist skin-head protest anyone? Naked anti-abortionists yelling outside abortion clinics? Just, y'know, bringing a bit of attention to their argument, you're not ashamed of nudity are you?

No idea what your point is, I wouldn't support skinheads even if they were lobbying for the same thing as me because I don't like them and they're terrible people.

panteloni · 16/07/2022 16:42

FourTeaFallOut · 16/07/2022 14:57

Yes, because we are all talking about the climate here.

The title is about nakedness.

blandnessneveroffends · 16/07/2022 16:43

gross, and very possibly used as a vehicle by deviants to get their kicks.

If it’s a town centre route it’s doubly bad!

If you haven't got the reading skills to absorb a very plain point then I would suggest reading a few times until it is clear.

Yes, that's a sarcastic post in response to the above poster who claims the nakedness promotes the cause despite this thread being evidence to the contrary.

It's not an offence to be naked in public.

Section 66 Sexual Offences Act 2003 requires a person to intentionally expose their genitals and intend that someone will see them and be caused alarm or distress. It is triable either way. Depending on the age of the defendant and the sentence that is imposed, an offender may be subject to the notification provisions (the sex offender register).

The need to prove that the person exposed their genitals intending that someone will see them and be caused alarm or distress means that a naturist whose intention is limited to going about his or her lawful business (i.e protesting) naked will not be guilty of this offence.

Surely anyone going naked would simply claim that they did not intend to cause offence/distress thereby avoiding prosecution. I did read that if a person appears naked in public that if even one person objects they must put clothing on. I saw a program on tv whereby one male & one female went topless in a busy London high street. A police officer stopped them & told the woman to put on a top but not the man. I didn't understand how this was possible under equality laws. On a different subject to nakedness in public ( but again how to avoid prosecution) I have never understood how anybody was fined (during covid regulations ) for not wearing a face covering when it clearly stated on the gov.uk website that a person can claim excemption if they are distressed when wearing one. Surely everyone who didn't want to wear one could just claim that reason.

Total weirdos . Just think of the burn if they fall off with no clothes on .

I think there are a lot of men posting on this thread for kicks.

Lineala · 16/07/2022 17:20

You know sometimes culture can be enriched by a bit of nudity, like Erica Roe.

sunglassesonthetable · 16/07/2022 19:04

Have you gone into town to watch it OP?
Or just been offended from FB?

I doubt it brings much discussion around climate change but is really that offensive?

JustlookingNotbuying · 16/07/2022 19:49

sunglassesonthetable I haven’t watched it today, no.
It was thrust upon myself and 10 year old dd 4 years ago and I had zero interest in witnessing over 100 saggy arses cycling past us and today I continue to have zero interest in seeing over 100 bodies, saggy or otherwise.
At the time, four years ago, dd asked why so many people were on their bikes naked and I could not explain as I was as perplexed as she was seeing as none of these protesters had banners or leaflets or were explaining their actions.
That is the whole point of my post.
If you read it you will see that I am not offended, more confused why these people would cycle around naked in the name of climate change yet seemingly doing sod all helping people to understand or educate them how to make the changes they are protesting against. Simply peddling around in the buff is a bit futile.
I have no issue with the human body but it makes zero sense to me why they would do this because people are discussing the fact they are all naked and no one has mentioned the reason for the protest - it’s pathetic.

Exactly this.

It’s just an excuse for perverts to indulge themselves publicly under the guise of a ‘good cause’.

The reason doesn’t matter.

Would you want them banned or stopped then?

Comedycook · 16/07/2022 20:37

What's wrong with being offended anyway? It's socially unacceptable to be naked in public...yes it does cause offense.

sunglassesonthetable · 16/07/2022 20:44

@Comedycook

can't get worked up about it. 🤷‍♀️ I really can't.

It's publicised. People wear fancy dress. The time I saw, it went past pretty quickly.

And I laughed tbh.

sunglassesonthetable · 16/07/2022 20:50

About 8,000 people take part in the Portland, Oregon one apparently.

Now there's sweaty for you.

Isaidnoalready · 16/07/2022 20:58

Its always the ones of free bus pass or retirement age isn't it? Used there cars for over 50 years suddenly decides they are killing the planet and protest knowing ghe only people it will effect are the ones who need them for work

Also why naked? Why not a standard walking protest with placards and shouting etc why a naked bile ride 🤔

Not banned? I support the cause but I would like something more productive in its place, something which would be inclusive of young people and children because it’s their future, they will be the ones dealing with this in years to come. Like I have said, older folk riding about naked on bicycles is a useless way to bring an important issue to the majority, how can they include young people in their protests when they are all naked. Would you want your young dd cycling amongst these lot? Most of whom would be strangers.
Concerns like this important one should include everyone, young and old and there are far better ways to do so.

Naked sweaty genitalia on a plastic bicycle seat...

I'm on the phone and accidentally clicked an advert.

Hope am on the right thread 🤣

So yes, it's a no thank you. You don't need to flash your body to get your message across.

I wonder if these folk agree with the 70s and 80s streakers disrupting events. Usually a chance just to just be seen - however beyond the huge boobs might have been an important message. We'll never know.

Sorry, wrong thread you say?
D'oh - boobs, cock, balls n fanny!!!
