I am so disheartened with the whole lot of them. The diversity is there but the care and compassion is not. As a nurse I worry for the NHS - the provider of care for all. I worry for the education system - the fact we are heading towards further inequality - those who have and those who have not. As a person I worry for us as a nation.
Australia had Scomo , America - trump and we had Boris , Brexit and oh so many lies.
Keir may be boring but at least he seems to care for the underdog.

Yes yes yes to this.

I'm sick of the lot of them. I can't believe we've got another 2 years of this. It feels like the longest government term ever.

This fake sincerity by them is nauseating.

I'm for Tugendhat as the best of a bad job. And because I dread the rest of them. And because I know no PM is perfect.

Is there actually diversity? They may look different from each other, but if they all think pretty much the same (enrich me and my rich mates, sod everyone else), is that really diverse?

It's just started. DD is home (unusual) and she refuses to watch it as she says it's not good for her BP because it annoys her soooo much that they show this when we have no vote, no control... and it's decided by 200,000 members who are not representative of the public

63% of Conservative Party members are male, and 37% female
6% are under 24-years-old, 36% are aged 25 to 49-years-old, 19% are aged between 50 and 64-years-old, and 39% are over 65
24% backed Remain in the EU referendum, and 76% backed Leave
56% live in London and the south-east of England, 18% in the Midlands and Wales, 20% in the north of England and 6% in Scotland
80% belong to the highest social economic groups known as ABC1

Don't any live in the south west? I'm in the south west so I'm impressed if it's true but somehow I doubt it.

coffeeandbiscuittime · 17/07/2022 20:10

@jgw1 I don't disagree , but they look diverse on the surface and that is what the press are focusing on - how great the tories are that they are so diverse .

derxa · 17/07/2022 19:51

Probably not but at least he shows up and talks to farmers. He made us visible at least. He may be a lying untrustworthy bastard but he's not a total urbanite.
Back to the debate. Rishi is the only credible option.

The only credible option is someone who does not want to live in the UK?

Well that tells a story about the state of the Tory party.

🤣🤣🤣

Very good!

tobee · 17/07/2022 21:12

I'm quite amazed at the Tory membership stats. What happens with the 50 to 64 year olds that the percentage is 19%?

DuncinToffee · 17/07/2022 21:49

Watched the football and had a bbq.

I understand none of them fancy their chance in a general election.

the80sweregreat · 18/07/2022 06:46

Liz Truss is 46 this year so she was 11 in 1986 when the Conservatives were still in power yet she continuously goes on about how bad her high school was and wants us to vote for more of the same. It's a wonder that nobody has picked up on this yet in the press.
She also had the advantage of a dad who was a university professor and was probably helped a lot at home something that Kemi wants to cut for children who may not also receive help at home with their schooling.
Education hasnt really been mentioned much in the leadership debates.

Oh believe me, they have Grin
Straightaway on Twitter that was pointed out! And someone mildly famous was at her school at the same time, and said it was actually a good school with Uni entrants, lots of music, drama, sports and extra activities.
Methinks she's talking out of her arse. But I don't trust anyone who was a Remainer and LD, and switched sides just to further her career.

I think it's just that it's a narrower age band than 25-49 (14 years as opposed to 24 years) so naturally there will be fewer people in it.

I loved it when Sunak asked her about they!

cakeorwine · 18/07/2022 07:44

I am sure those questions about her education will come up in any 1-1 interview with journalists.

Is it because key parts of their education were missing, like empathy and telling the truth?

Quia · 18/07/2022 08:26

I don't mind Chris Bryant , but it's also true that the LP haven't told us any of their policies yet either.

Plenty of information about their policies on their website.

DuncinToffee · 18/07/2022 08:26

NEW The PM will NOT chair today's Cobra meeting on the heatwave, Kit Malthouse will do it again. The PM is attending a planned appearance at the Farnborough air show and then opening the confidence debate the govt has called in itself.

Quia · 18/07/2022 08:27

jgw1 · 15/07/2022 16:32

Couldn't they just use the Nightingale hospitals, they and their staff are now just sitting around knitting again I guess.

I think most of them were closed down.

The priorities - jolly or COBRA meeting? Hmmm 🤔

Why should I go on their website, I read the Daily Mail avidly and the Labour party have never said any of their policies in there.

Oh. But luckily the account for most of the 40 new hospitals Boris has built so that is good news.

Added to which her school education was so appalling it got her to Oxford. Given her apparent lack of intelligence that school must have performed miracles.
