Payment from government

Has anyone received the £365 payment from the government this morning? They said it was from 14th July but just wondering if anyone got it today.

I still haven't had the first £150 we should have received in April so not holding my breath on this.
We get tax credits so may get something in the Autumn.

I didn't get £150, it was automatically credited to my CT account.

How frustrating. I'm on ESA but contribution based due to working (years ago now) so I miss out on things like this. The fact I worked in 2019 doesn't mean I'm well off now! I'm hoping the next tax year I'll be eligible for income based ESA but at that point they will probably just take it off me 🤦‍♀️

OhmygodDont · 14/07/2022 12:19

Those on tax credits could be anywhere to December for the first payment as winter doesn’t start till just before Christmas Day. Which seems bonkers that some get it now and others won’t for months.

A family member got theirs today. They have popped off to the local city shopping.

Why is that relevant?

Also those on tax credits will get their payment from August onwards as the first is in Autumn the second payment is in winter.

Got my ESA today, but nothing else, just got to wait I guess

If you get contribution based then you won't get it.

You don't have to wait to be eligible for an income based benefit, if you have no other income then you need to enquire about this now.

AnonSource · 14/07/2022 12:42

I bank with monzo and claim UC. My payment is pending for tomorrow and from what I've read elsewhere other people's payments are pending for tomorrow also.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/07/2022 12:50

Those of you receiving this money should look to see if you can put it in to a Help to Save account.

You'll have to drip it in over a few months at £50 pm but if you can do this it will be topped up by a further 50% if you've not already used your Help to Save allowance.

It might also help you keep the money aside as it's intended to help with higher winter bills, which is another reason to not panic if you haven't got it yet.

Guess it wasn’t. I was pleased for them tbh they don’t get to go anywhere much. Nothing sinister.

This isn't true. It's only income based JSA, ESA, income support, pension credit tax credits and UC that are eligible.

I have clarified I get the other one

I was talking about a pp saying they were hoping they would be eligible for an income based benefit in the next tax year.

DoubleGauze · 14/07/2022 13:29

@BarbaraofSeville thanks for that. Please further explain the concept of saving for the benefit of us less able to understand.

monicagellerbing · 14/07/2022 14:10

@BarbaraofSeville do you live in the real world

Surely @BarbaraofSeville was just informing people of the Government Help to Save? You can save up to £50 a month (withdraw it anytime) and after 2 years the Government give you 50% of whatever you saved. It’s a fantastic thing to do. I can rarely save £50 a month - sometimes it’s a fiver but it genuinely a good scheme.

GordonBennetttt · 14/07/2022 14:52

To the people who have been paid today, is this your usual pay date?

Rooroobear · 14/07/2022 15:00

Yep, I was wrong. Thanks for setting me straight. I put a note in my journal and was told between now and 31st July. It’s not coming from uc as such, it’s a government payment so will go in anytime on or before 31st July.

Od130990 · 14/07/2022 15:35

I'm not entitled to it but for anyone who is, I seem to be seeing a pattern emerging everyone I know with NatWest accounts seems to have had the payment today.
So rather than alphabetically or which benefits their on appears irrelevant.

DoubleGauze · 14/07/2022 16:14

@Namechanger1002 I hope that was the intention.

So long as the post wasn't made to remind us silly old benefit recipients not to spaff the payment on fags , booze , and a big telly...

OldTinHat · 14/07/2022 16:38

I'd love to sign up to the Help To Save scheme but am on ESA so not eligible. But good reminder for those who can. £50 a month is impossible but getting 50p back for every £1 saved is excellent.

For those asking, my ESA normally arrives on a Tuesday fortnightly. Due next week but the payment arrived yesterday - I have a Pockit account and benefits come in the evening before they would normally turn up. My surname starts with B.

x2boys · 14/07/2022 16:48

We get tax credits so my understanding is that those still on tax credits won't get their payment until sometime in September, and those on universal credit from today.

Nizathe · 14/07/2022 16:51

I got a text and a UC note with a link like PP showed, didn't receive today.

I didn't read it that way at all and @BarbaraofSeville is normally a very reasonable poster! I read it as if it's possible to save some the Help to Save gives the absolute best return of any savings account possible. Unfortunately if I get the payment it will have to go towards clearing debt but I do have a help to save account and its a great scheme

Exactly the same for me. Pending to go in tomorrow at 4pm

lalalalalalaba · 14/07/2022 17:54

We haven't received it today. Thought we were entitled but I suppose we're not after reading this thread.

We claim UC and DP works. Are we eligible or not? We didn't receive anything extra in April/May
