Teenagers overdressing in the heat

Has anyone found any way to get a teenager to wear less on hot days? My 14-year-old DS is insisting on wearing his hoodie. He looks very hot, but keeps insisting he is not?

Or should I just ignore it, and take a photo of him to show future partners what he wore during a heatwave?

And is it only my son?

At 14 I wouldn’t have a problem as long as he didn’t stink out every room!

CalistoNoSolo · 13/07/2022 19:28

Just leave him alone. And dont take the piss fgs.

IglesiasPiggl · 13/07/2022 19:29

Well mine is sitting on the sofa in his pants so be careful what you wish for 😂😂

Would these be the same teenagers that refuse to wear anything resembling a coat in deepest winter like we have round here? 😂

TuftyMarmoset · 13/07/2022 19:31

Is he maybe a bit self-conscious about sweat patches or BO and using the hoodie to disguise the issue?

Leave him alone. My mum was always on my case about clothes a when it was hot. It was annoying as fuck.

Same, she used to piss me off so much ^

Take a picture and let him get on with it. But be kind. I remember refusing point blank to stop wearing jeans in the horrendous heat because I hated my legs so much as a teenager. They were perfectly fine legs, just a bit pale. But I was horrified at the thought of showing them (mind you, my resolve didn’t last very long, I’ve always preferred comfort over style!)

MadMadMadamMim · 13/07/2022 19:34

I once went round Malta (in a massive heatwave) with my 17 yo brother who was wearing jeans, motorbike boots, a leather jacket with studs and then a sleeveless DENIM jacket over the top of that with ACDC emblazoned on the back.

Insisting he was not hot...

Octomore · 13/07/2022 19:34

Just leave him to it. Why do you need to dictate what thickness of clothing he wears?

antelopevalley · 13/07/2022 19:35

It is supposed to be light-hearted. I do remember being a teenager and will not give him a hard time. He just looks so HOT.

Well my 18yo has been wearing that "uniform" for years, from the depths of winter(no coat) to the height of summer and they're still alive with no ill effects. Currently trying to convince the 14yo that they are allowed to remove their school jumper... I think we adults just need to step back here 😉

butterflied · 13/07/2022 19:36

What would be the purpose of taking a picture? Seems weirdly mocking.

antelopevalley · 13/07/2022 19:38

It is to mock him when he is much older and can see the funny side.

I saw a teenager the other day wearing two hoodies; one navy, one grey. Both with the hoods up. According to my car, it was 31 degrees at the time. I can’t imaging what he must smell like 🤮. I also saw a young mum today wearing a Burberry style buttoned & belted up raincoat. It was 25 degrees & blazing sunshine at the time. Very odd indeed.

Oh God, that reminds me that mine has a habit of walking around in his undercrackers if I'm lucky

That something to look forward to when he's back from uni! 🙈

My 34 year old brother is known for always wearing a winter coat or leather jacket in summer and never bothering with a coat in winter (he once went to visit his Canadian in laws and Christmas and his MIL took him straight to a department store from the airport because he hadn't thought he might need a coat...). So it doesn't get better with age.

Why does every thread end up like this?! It's supposed to be a chat forum so why does every thread have to become so antagonistic. What with the wilfull misunderstanders and the professionally offended this site is becoming unreadable.

My 15 year old DS was refusing to wear any shorts on Saturday where I got burnt at a comedy festival at 4pm it was so hot! He delivered his little sister (who he had looked after) at the Park (comedy venue) so he could go straight out with friends and he was wearing Levis!! He said shorts look 'dead' lingo for rubbish but what's funny is that he has since ordered shorts and they arrived today!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 13/07/2022 19:45

My dd15 is wearing a blazer despite not having to because ARMS and went out yesterday in joggers and a hoodie. She doesn't own a coat either. If it's subzero she'd wear the same.

MrsBwced · 13/07/2022 19:47

I was thinking this the other day. Many of the local teenage boys are wearing their roadman uniform of shorts and a black puffer jacket zipped up. I wonder if they are ever a comfortable temperature, surely they are sweltering in the hot weather but have cold legs in the winter.

Littlefucker · 13/07/2022 19:49

I saw numerous teens in hoodies AND puffs coats. It’s a gang thing…I don’t mean he’s in a gang but it’s the look
