Why are they still resigning when Boris Johnson is also going?
All a bit odd.
We haven't a functioning government at the moment then : it is very unsettling.

Because there is a row about caretaker pm. Resignations at this point are about that.

Thats why they are very interesting.

There is still a row going on.

Sky's tone is suggesting that he cannot stay as pm, which is a shift too.

Their ticker is at 48 resignations.

RedToothBrush · 07/07/2022 10:36

Sorry ticker is 57 not 48!

If the media are running this.

It would delicious if he actually had no intention of resigning and they are all posting he will - so he literally ends up having no choice.

Minister for Cabinet Office making statement in the house (largely saying can't say what pm will say but keep calm, all will be calm"

NEW Confusion reigns in Government this morning - a Northern Ireland Office source says Brandon Lewis believes his resignation was not accepted and he is still in post.

Yes BJ is resigning as Tory Leader, and that's great news of course, but surely he can't remain as PM until the autumn? The country has to put up with him potentially for another 3 months? This is a lot about him wanting to stay on at No 10 and have the use of Chequers this summer, including for another wedding party. We all know how much he enjoys a party. He should not be allowed to amble out at his own pace because it suits him and his personal life.

Well done Angela

the80sweregreat · 07/07/2022 10:43

I don't think he has a name. I think he actually is just the man in the suit Grin

It genuinely wouldn't surprise me if the bbc, sky etc had been told by a very senior source that the pm was going ("hello this is the queen speaking... Its done.")

Then No10 sees this whilst watching Tv and then gets their call fron the queen saying, "sort your fucking shit out and get off the pot".

Then the Tory Party goes into overdrive saying "right well you are not fucking staying until october"

And then Carrie is there screaming at Johnson "we are not leaving my wallpaper. I did not marry you only for you to be the shortest serving pm ever. You get out there and sort it out. I am the PM’s wife and i demand to be kept in the manner to which ive become accustomed" and he just stands there going "yes dear, i know. I am the pm and everyone loves me 14 million people voted for me personally and believe in my brexit buses even now and i must ensure this as part of my legacy".

Whilst also quietly thinking, "shit they are going to reveal where the russian bodies are buried now and im fucked".

I don't think you're necessarily too far from the truth @RedToothBrush

Cornettoninja · 07/07/2022 10:49

I wonder if he’s by the shredder?

They should conduct the leadership race based on the size of the respective candidates majorities. At least that way there is some chance of still being an MP after the next election.

I think they sort of will. Not literally, but Raab for example has no chance because they all know he's probably losing that seat. I don't think anyone with a sub 10k majority is getting it.

Just now in the HoC: 'It's like leaving a bull in charge of a china shop'.

AmaryIlis · 07/07/2022 10:52

Apparently he gets £420K severance pay. If he had any honour, he would refuse it, but I'm not holding my breath for that.

Igotjelly · 07/07/2022 10:53

£405k of severance pay for each resignation. what the actual fuck! No cost of living crisis there then.

It's already banked

Actually, it's probably been used up already many times over! I'm sure he's got loads of loans to honour. And I bet Boris Johnson is an early payer
