One of the PPSs who resigned yesterday is my MP. Back in 2020 I wrote to her about the Cummings affair, how Johnson refusing to sack Cummings had damaged the Tory party. I doubt I was the only one who did that. So why has it taken her 2 years to find her conscience? Oh yes, that would be because she doesn't have one, it's her career that comes first.
I wonder if there are any honest people in the Conservative Party? Any who aren't self-serving grasping little creeps?

the80sweregreat · 07/07/2022 10:10

Raab worries me ; he went on tv and defended him to the bitter end knowing that it was all a pack of lies. If he decides not to be a caretaker can he then go for the leadership ?
I'm sure that the ones who resigned will be back ; I doubt they meant any of those words , it was all playing to the gallery yesterday .
It's all so transparent, yet they will get away with it.

Will he stay as an MP on the back benches ?
If not , that's a by election looming in a Tory stronghold.
I can't see the current Mrs J wanting to live in a smaller place with two little children.
He'll end up a lonely old man living with his dad in Greece. I doubt anyone will want to hear him speak on any circuit either or buy his book
His finished on most fronts.

From that article his place is a buy to let. But apparently he only gets £10k a year rental? Seriously - a 4 bed in London?

Exactly this. I wonder if we have the same MP 🤔

I bet that is the figure he uses on his tax returns and the true figure is much higher, but a whizzy accountant has applied all sorts of deductibles.

vera99 · 07/07/2022 10:17

So he needs to find a rental pronto. 2 babies, a dog and a cramped rented flat on an MP's salary now that reality is gonna smash ol Bozo straight in the face that and Nut Nut's constant whining and rows as what a sad excuse of a man he is. Hell on Earth - booed everywhere he tries to go with his plod bodyguards. I suspect he will resign his seat take a £10 million advance on his memoirs and decamp to the US where his after-dinner speeches to rich diners will command a 100k a pop without sweating.

Did anyone see GBN last night? I was flicking through the news channels and thought I'd have a look at their take on it. I think the presenter was Dan someone and his guest was Mr Johnson Snr, he was wittering on about how there is no one with the talents his son has and it is all a media campaign but not to worry, the tide is turning demonstrated by the 1922 committee not changing the rules yesterday. Dan whoever he is was very sympathetic about poor Boris. I only managed to watch about 2 minutes as it was so barking to listen to.

Heh well guess we know where Boris Johnson gets it from. Of course it probably hasn’t occurred to dear Stanley that he should bear at least part of the blame for raising an incompetent, entitled, narcissistic bully boy who has failed upwards his entire life, until finally, there was no more upwards to be had (unless he actually did become U.K. then world king or something) and is now beginning his undignified descent.

Rebecca Pow, Environnement Minister, resigns

55 now?

tobee · 07/07/2022 10:24

60! According to Kay Burley

Jason118 · 07/07/2022 10:25

They should conduct the leadership race based on the size of the respective candidates majorities. At least that way there is some chance of still being an MP after the next election.

Lord Heseltine whiffling on that Brexit is now over

RedToothBrush · 07/07/2022 10:26

Posted this elsewhere:
Interesting thing just happened...

Sky news saying that theyve been told that johnson will stay until the autumn.

However they were just interviewing a minister who said er no, how is he going to do that no one wants to serve with him. They just had another journalists saying theyve been talking to others, saying similar.

And there has been another minister who has resigned SINCE the news that johnson will go.

Indeed the rumour circulating that johnson himself is saying he is staying until the tory party conference in october.

The party is talking about a constitutional crisis in the sense of having a lame duck pm, and the inability to put in big policy changes - the johnson camps seems to be saying that they intend to do a big tour and big policy changes as a fan fare (and potential bid for a future retry at being PM).

Once again the thing coming from Johnson seems to be all about his legacy rather than the best interests of the country.

But the mood amongst the party is that they have had enough of Johnson's manipulation of everything as its damaging the party reputation.

I am now wondering what time we will actually see Johnson. Its not nearly 10.30am. There is clearly a row going on.

tobee · 07/07/2022 10:27

Not that he's deluded at all!!

Damage is done regardless. We'd never have anything like the deal we had anyway.

tobee · 07/07/2022 10:28

Why why why is his instinct always to make each issue worse? Worse for himself?

the80sweregreat · 07/07/2022 10:28

Why are they still resigning when Boris Johnson is also going?
All a bit odd.
We haven't a functioning government at the moment then : it is very unsettling.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/07/2022 10:29

Surely Johnson can't stay on? He can't scrape together enough ministers to ensure we have a functioning government and we can't limp through the summer without anyone heading up various despartments can we?

ClaudineClare · 07/07/2022 10:29

Mr Johnson Snr, he was wittering on about how there is no one with the talents his son has and it is all a media campaign

Certain posters have been parroting the line about a media campaign this morning. It is a bit pathetic.

I think coz of the fact they don't want to serve until autumn?

I think they are still resigning because they refuse to stay on with him over the summer?

The by elections weren't real. They were just a media campaign Hmm

ClaudineClare · 07/07/2022 10:31

Do we know when he will be making a statement?

tobee · 07/07/2022 10:32

Omg will Steve Baker ever go off bbc news?

ClaudineClare · 07/07/2022 10:33

I don't think the staying on until October will happen. He will be gone as Tory leader and PM by the end of today. It would be madness to trust him.
