I'm not sure that works, though. I agree that I wouldn't blame them for the current shitshow, but aspects of their work undoubtedly become political. I have some dealings with one of the ministries where it is very evident that civil service spokesmen are denying facts that we all know are true, and are choosing to present misleading versions of the facts that support the government line.

In some ways, I feel like they shouldn't be allowed to resign. I know you can't stop people, but it feels like they've fucked up the whole country and can just walk off into the sunset with no blame.

We'll end up with Fabricant and Bone, Dorries will become head of a super-Ministry doing around 5 different jobs, and it will become a cabinet of idiots lurching from crisis to crisis. Business as usual, in other words. The only plus is that Boris won't have all that baying support behind him and we can enjoy ourselves watching Tories telling him every day what a dishonest incompetent twat he is.
