Javid sorry o didn't proofread before posting. I'm not generally inclined to getting peoples names wrong (rest of my grammar is iPad crap!).

Didn't mean to come across as dismissive and rude getting it wrong. Blush

DuncinToffee · 06/07/2022 13:11

Boris Johnson believes he still has support of majority of Tory MPs, No10 says

PM will contest a confidence vote if one is called

30p Lee Anderson asks for Johnson to resign

WaitroseWoman · 06/07/2022 13:31

I thought all the calls of 'Bye-Bye Boris' when he left the chamber were rather wonderful!

Cornettoninja · 06/07/2022 13:34

I’d give quite a lot to be a fly on the wall on his immediate reaction once out of earshot.

DuncinToffee · 06/07/2022 13:34

Well-placed source convinced Boris Johnson won’t quit, even if the 22 change the rules, and he loses a VONC.

Instead, he’ll claim he has a mandate from 14m voters, and will threaten to force an election - but not before deselecting everyone who voted against him.

Two thoughts:

  1. Screams low budget Trump
  2. I worry he would win a GE if one was called.
DuncinToffee · 06/07/2022 13:39

NEW: Treasury PPS @ClaireCoutinho resigns.

Cornettoninja · 06/07/2022 13:43

I wish I didn’t believe that @DuncinToffee but I do. It’s just all so damaging.

once he’s out there needs to be a serious review of how to get people out of position. It’s so dangerous.

TokyoSushi · 06/07/2022 13:44

@Igotjelly also wouldn't rule out him winning a GE if called 🙄

Igotjelly · 06/07/2022 13:44

Another 3 PPS resigning.

DowningStreetParty · 06/07/2022 13:44

I wrote to my Tory MP to say that I was disgusted with how the Conservative party are still allowing themselves to be represented by Boris Johnson and his constant corrupt, self serving mess and scandal-causing. He’s not got a single policy I could name apart from proroguing Parliament, trying to break international law around Northern Ireland and Rwanda.

We can’t expect Boris Johnson to do the right thing and resign in shame- he’s not going to become entirely different person. As he himself has said. We urgently need the Conservative party to do the right thing for the country and get rid of him as leader. What else are they possibly waiting for?

He’s like an awful combination of Berlusconi and Trump in his final days as President right now.

Sadly I agree. It’s too much of a risk.

Another 3 PPS resigning.

3 PPS just gone in 2 mins. Takes the total of resignations to 21 since 6pm yesterday.

Johnston: "I do not believe he can provide the leadership the country needs"
Saxsby: "My silence is not compatible with my views"
Coutinho: "Events are preventing us from focusing"

If he digs his heels in at what point is it going to be credible to make comparisons with dictators? Asking for a friend.

Cornettoninja · 06/07/2022 13:49

Saxsby: "My silence is not compatible with my views

that’s quite powerful. Is it already a known quote?

Suggestions Michael Gove is weighing going to the PM and saying times up - although his 2016 experience weighing in his mind I’m told

If he does it he could lead a delegation of cabinet ministers (tho plenty wouldn’t take part)

If Grant Shapps resigns how many resignations will it count as?

Nightmare scenario.

Think it would make 22.

TokyoSushi · 06/07/2022 13:56

'Honest Bob' Jenerick submitted a no confidence letter just now, I think somebody's going to have to drag him out, ironic if it's Gove

When Boris won the leadership a critical moment was when three younger Tories - Rishi Sunak, Oliver Dowden and Robert Jenrick - co-wrote an op-ed backing his bid.

The circle is complete. All three now publicly want him gone.

vera99 · 06/07/2022 14:13

This is what Javid should have said to Johnson .... from Eire's Parliament

DuncinToffee · 06/07/2022 14:20

Nicholas Watt

An old ally of @boris_johnson tells me the mood among Conservative MPs is turning against the PM rapidly and decisively. This person tells me: “It is moving very quickly. We have passed the tipping point.”

This ally describes the tearoom after prime minister’s questions: “In the tearoom Nadine Dorries is sitting with a handful of loyalists. On every other Tory table MPs are plotting how to get rid of Boris Johnson. That includes ministers who haven’t resigned.”

And on those plotting ministers: “Some of them have submitted letters to Graham Brady. They are not resigning because they say we have to have a functioning government.”

Igotjelly · 06/07/2022 14:23

Lots of reports that Chief Whip, Chris Heaton-Harris is privately telling the PM that it's time to resign.
