How to get copies of GCSE results from years ago?

nancyclancy123 · 10/06/2022 21:00

I’m applying for a new role at my current workplace.
They haven’t asked for copies, I’ve just listed them on the application site, but I thought it would be handy to have copies in case they do.
I sat my GCSE’s 27 years ago!!

You can contact the exam boards and they’ll send you them. It is costly and takes weeks though.

I had to get mine for uni, although it is not certificates you get. Is a statement of results. I contacted the exam board and paid a small fee for them.

I really don't think 27 year old GCSEs are relevant. Any job I've applied for only asks for highest qualifications.

Nonsense

scoopoftheday · 10/06/2022 21:09

Oops I was quoting the poster who said you'd have to resit!

McConkeysPlate · 10/06/2022 21:11

I phoned my old school and they found them in the archives. They were sat nearly 30 years ago!
Or they will give you the name of the exam boards and they will send you copies at a small cost.

I had to prove my 27 year old GCSE results to uni when I applied. Also the Access course before that.

sunflowerandivy · 10/06/2022 21:11

I am 37 and needed to show copies of maths and English GCSE fir a work course I'm doing despite having a BSc and my old comprehensive just sent me the copies of my certificates which they had on file!

123PoIIyanna123 · 10/06/2022 21:12

@scoopoftheday That's not what I've been told.

If its a essential requirement for the job then they may well ask for proof, schools for example almost always want evidence of GCSE Maths and English.

MrsMigginsCat · 10/06/2022 21:15

I applied for a job about 8 years ago with the local authority. They wanted to see my GCSE certificates from 1988! I believe you can get copies from the exam boards, but they've all changed and merged over the years so you may need to do a bit of detective work to find out who to contact now.

Imthedamnfoolwhoshothim · 10/06/2022 21:17

Does anyone know how to find out which exam boards they were with?

PinkPupZ · 10/06/2022 21:19

Ask someone who was in your year or there abouts from school to check theirs for exam boards

I asked on FB as I have a few people from school on there.

No, you really don't.
I never had to resit any of mine. The only people I know who had to resit never had a good grade to start with.

If you don’t know your examboard you are able to contact each one and they confirm if you sat with them, if yes you can buy new certificates, mine were about £40 per certifcate, annoyingly I needed them from three different examboards.

I didn't resit mine. The exam boards I took my exams under no longer exist.
And I needed proof for university, not a job where they might be more lenient about lost certificates.

nancyclancy123 · 10/06/2022 21:30

Thank you for replying. I will look at the link OutDamnedSpot
I’m fairly close-by to my secondary school so should be able to find someone who can remember the exam board. 😊

This is absolute nonsense. I posted the link up thread for where to get copies from.

WhiteCatmas · 10/06/2022 21:31

@123PoIIyanna123 no one is going to make someone with a degree resit GCSEs from 27 years ago. That is silly.
Millenium bug my arse.

ivykaty44 · 10/06/2022 21:32

No I'm sorry, but you do definitely have to resit them. It's something to do with LEA control and the exam boards... not great I agree.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🏝🏝🏝🏝

you can get certificates back to mid 1990s and statement of results prior to that

Marblessolveeverything · 10/06/2022 21:32

Eh there was no actual Millennium bug??
