How to get copies of GCSE results from years ago?

nancyclancy123 · 10/06/2022 21:00

I’m applying for a new role at my current workplace.
They haven’t asked for copies, I’ve just listed them on the application site, but I thought it would be handy to have copies in case they do.
I sat my GCSE’s 27 years ago!!

@nancyclancy123

Post on FB and ask any old school mates if they can remember the exam boards. Some people do keep every scrap of info from school, including GCSE results.
A lot of exam boards no longer exist, but you can still get your result anyway. Use the info here.

My exam boards are now gone, but I applied to AQA for mine. I needed maths, english and science, and it was £8 for each (8 years ago, so it might have changed).

Ignore the pp who says you have to sit them again. The only reason you will have to sit them again if your grades are not adequate for the course/role you are applying for.

Will you just stop talking?

This isn't true. At all.

Haha. Good job the exams' subject wasn't Sense of Humour. 😀

BitOutOfPractice · 10/06/2022 21:46

Apart from every single job where, even if you have a doctorate, you have to prove you have O level / gcse English and maths 🙄

Thank you, my examination board no longer exists either so I’ll have to go through AQA too. But I’m going to ask on Monday and only go ahead if it’s necessary.
Hopefully, they’re only interested in the qualifications linked to the position.

And as for resits, I’m 100% certain that’s not the case!! 😁

In fairness my DP had to resit gcse English to get on his teacher training course in 2019 - despite having a doctorate in electrical engineering - because he had lost his o level certificate from 1981 and couldn’t remember what exam board he’d taken. It was an utter nightmare.

This seems really unlikely. There’s a really clear process for getting old certificates

BitOutOfPractice · 10/06/2022 21:53

@XenoBitch that’s just not true. See my post above. My DP passed English o level in the early 80s. Lost his certificates. Couldn’t remember what exam board. Applied to every one we could think of (at a cost for each board) and failed to find his certificate. Despite having a degree and post degree qualifications to lecturer level (which must’ve required him to have English o level) he could not apply for his teacher training qualification without the actual physical certificate. So he had to resit. It was both farcical and very stressful.

BitOutOfPractice · 10/06/2022 21:55

Well I wish you’d tell me what it was @OutDamnedSpot because with the passing of 35+ years since the initial exam we failed to access this “clear process” 🙄

worriedaboutmoney2022 · 10/06/2022 21:56

My brother lost
His and he contacted our old secondary school who bizarrely photocopy them all
And keep copies for their records - this was about 10
Years ago he was 35 then!!!

Might be worth asking x

I am sorry that happened to your DP, but that sounds like such an unusual and unfortunate case. It certainly is not the norm.

Dontlickthetrolley · 10/06/2022 21:58

You mean you didn't keep your Record of Achievement up to date and keep it in a safe place for moments like this??? That was drilled into us in the mid 90s, you must keep your ROA up to date to show your prospective employers 🤣

Sqeebling · 10/06/2022 21:58

Ask your parents if you are able to

Mine happened to still have my original O level certificates that I needed decades later for a new role

Sqeebling · 10/06/2022 22:00

Up until then they were happy with the other paper copies of the transcripts of my results as opposed to the original copies

I found mine recently in my parent's garage. Daren't look inside! That faux leather burgundy cover with the brass corners sent enough chills down my spine!

Thekormachameleon · 10/06/2022 22:01

I had this problem recently

I write to all of the exam Boards and submitted a subject access request

I got statements of my results and didn't pay a penny via the SAR

Sqeebling · 10/06/2022 22:03

To do a PGCE you have to have your original GCSE certificates for maths and English regardless of whether you have a degree, masters or PhD

BitOutOfPractice · 10/06/2022 22:03

DP was orphaned at 14. Not everyone is the the same you know!

Certificates and all inside it!
