I was the recipient of unwanted advice from a random man today.

..and actually remembered to say " thanks Random Man !" He just looked confused but another woman near by burst out laughing.
It was in the gym, I was doing my own thing , he tried to tell me to do it " his" way .
Seriously though, I'm 49 so I'm less likely to be intimidated by shit like this. I've also emailed the gym as a heads up .

Brilliant! What was his response?

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/05/2022 21:57

OMG I wish I'd been there!

I'd love to see a comeback like that in person.

nocoolnamesleft · 22/05/2022 21:58

Oh, well done!

Pollydonia · 22/05/2022 22:01

He just looked confused and walked away shaking his head.

Bravo!! What was the wisdom he was so benevolently imparting?

Haveipeedontheircornflakes · 22/05/2022 22:02

I seriously don't understand why you needed to email the gym? Heads up on what exactly?! 😂

Gaspingandleaping · 22/05/2022 22:02

Talk is through what he said. I applaud you for actually thinking of something. I'd usually just try and 'be kind' then be furious with myself forever

SlatsandFlaps · 22/05/2022 22:04

You emailed the Gym?!?! 🤣

springbreak22 · 22/05/2022 22:04

You emailed the gym what?

Cas112 · 22/05/2022 22:05

Emailed the gym😂😂😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Pollydonia · 22/05/2022 22:08

I emailed because it was unmanned at the time( keycode entry ) and there is a policy of not bothering other members and they have asked for issues to be emailed to them so that repeated incidents can be looked at ( CCTV)

Good.

Nothing changes if nobody says anything.

Oldfilmsareshit · 22/05/2022 22:09

Good for you. Fuck random man

Emailed the gym😂😂😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️

So glad to have amused you by following the gyms own advice.

Good for you!! I hate unsolicited "advice" from strangers, usually with the intention of making the recipient look like an idiot for not doing something the "approved way"
I have an ex partner who used to do this. I used to cringe with embarrassment if he did it in my presence .
One of the host of reasons why he is an ex 🤣

Please do not fuck random man. It only encourages them.

Johnnysgirl · 22/05/2022 22:26

The management will think you're nuts, "reporting" someone for speaking to you. I'm pretty sure they mean something entirely different by bothering other members.

Cheeseandbiscuits2 · 22/05/2022 22:31

I remember the thread where someone replied "thanks random man" glad you remembered it!

Neverendingdust · 22/05/2022 22:34

In the gym I’m more inclined to think he may have been giving advice if you were doing something incorrectly, likely to cause injury or issues after repeating the same mistakes over and over.

CorsicaDreaming · 22/05/2022 22:34

I agree with @Deadringer - don't follow the advice of @Oldfilmsareshit ... especially if it's going to be on CCTV.

Why2why · 22/05/2022 22:34

This is over the top. Emailing the gym to say a man spoke to you and gave you unwanted advice? I’m surprised you did not call the police.

Workquestion12 · 22/05/2022 22:35

I get pestered by random men all the time. It’s extremely draining. No decent man would approach a woman unknown to him to offer unsolicited advice. For me it’s usually leering and wanting my number. No thanks. I go to the gym to work out, not pick up men. Well done OP. The gym clearly has that policy in place for a reason. Ignore other posters who don’t ‘get it.’

Nope, they have had members leave due to being approached, especially when the gym is unmanned, hence the policy and the sign in the lobby asking us to email. He approached me, got in my personal space, leaned on the back of the equipment I was using ( leg press) and told me what weight to use when he had no idea of any physical problems I may have. A younger me would have been intimidated.
