What would you expect a "bottomless brunch" to be?

Girly weekend away, bottomless brunch suggested, at around £20 per head. All agreed. Ended up being £12 more.

What would you expect from it?

Enough people that that’s the standard offering.

Bottomless brunch means prosecco and mimosas. If it's just food then that would be 'all you can eat'

But I’m one of the people who thinks that brunch, being a portmanteau of breakfast and lunch, is a meal that takes place between 10am-noon, and I have already learnt from a previous thread that many people think brunch is a meal that can happen at any time of day and just refers to the type of food served.

That is what brunch is - it is about the timing, rather than the content of the meal; if I eat cornflakes at 8 pm, it's not breakfast. Brunch is a meal that is too late to be breakfast, but too early to be lunch.
Bottomless brunch is a misnomer, but presumably somebody thought it sounded catchy and others latched on to it, despite it making no sense.

I was so incensed by this that I started a thread on this very topic! Brunch should be the time between breakfast and lunch!

Another one who would have expected all you can eat brunch buffet (which sounds amazing), as well as unlimited but very specific drinks.

Also, agreed, it is late breakfast/early lunch. You can’t have afternoon brunch!

It took off when clubs were closed due to Covid. My DD at uni and her pals started going out for these around the same time that sit down clubbing was a thing.
They’re normally time limited so a table for 2 hrs and drinks are slow to be refilled.

Your local nice place does not do a Bottomless Brunch though. What you discribed is a Breakfast Buffet which is a completely different thing.

Words/names/titles have meanings and if they are advertising it under 'bottomless brunch' they are being deliberately misleading.

Buffets have been around for years, its a well known thing not sure why someone would expect a buffet when nowhere does the booked activity say the word buffet.

Your local place isn’t a bottomless brunch it’s a breakfast buffet not the same thing at all . Always always check what your getting as not the same from place to place .

Agree, your local place does a breakfast buffet. Deliberately or not, them calling it 'bottomless brunch' is inaccurate/misleading. The place you booked for has the terminology right.
But you should have checked what 'bottomless brunch' meant at this other place.

Around here it’s around £30 per head, my favourite at the moment is a pizza place, gorgeous fresh home made pizza and unlimited fizz/aperol spritz/sangria/mimosa. We tend to do it over lunch time.

Believe it or not there is a dictionary definition for bottomless brunch
noun. DEFINITIONS1. 1. a morning or early afternoon event at which for a set price you get a certain number of courses and unlimited alcohol
Your local place does not do a bottomless brunch OP but a breakfast buffet and I'd be mightily unhappy if I'd booked to find the 'bottomless' refers to orange juice or tea.
I really want a Dubai brunch now after reading this thread. The one at the Westin is out of this world!

Calling anything a brunch when it is lunchtime or afternoon is pretty misleading too, brunch refers to the timing, not the type of food.

@ShirleyPhallus - I meant "luckily" as in "luckily she doesn't go very often/get drunk because, for some reason, when she's busy worshipping the porcelain god (which yes; has happened from time to time - she's an average woman in her 20s, after all)... it's like an echo chamber and her brother and I hear it wherever we are in the house!"

On top of which, she (and I) are of the mindset that if you're drinking purely to end up drunk before midday... then perhaps (generic) you need some sort of intervention/help for alcoholism.

Timing is subjective. Brunch means a meal between breakfast and lunch, or a meal that takes the place of both.
If I get out of bed at 2pm on a Sunday, I can easily have brunch at 3pm. There's nothing wrong with that, either in name or action!

I can't get too worked up about the name, 'bottomless afternoon meal' or 'meal with unlimited Prosecco' don't quite have the same ring to them! As this thread proves the vast majority understand what it is and that it doesn't always mean literal brunch.

We went to one the other week , I swear the drinks were all non alcoholic drink 6/7 cocktails , 2 prosecco and was sober as a judge after 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh ps , Brunch usually mix of things , I had a burger at the one I went to which I wouldn’t normally eat for “brunch”

A brunch and unlimited cocktails. Usually it’s a brunch type dish like eggs Benedict. We do have a local place to us that does unlimited cake for dessert after the brunch food and unlimited Prosecco
