Would you be happy to receive this as a gift?

A family portrait illustration similar to the one pictured?

Considering them for Christmas presents (I know I'm early!) but DH thinks people would rather have a realistic portrait or canvas photo.

No, I absolutely hate people giving me stuff to display
It's their taste and this is a vanity present
It's nice on its own in your house I'm sure

pandora206 · 18/05/2022 16:27

It's too cutesy for my taste, though a Biff and Chip style story book would just about be okay.

dontgobaconmyheart · 18/05/2022 16:28

Sorry but no, I can think of little I'd want less. It's all a bit naff and twee for my liking.

I'd prefer it to a canvas or photography which I'd find even worse but wouldn't hang any of them. It just really isn't my bag nor to my decor taste. I kno what the members of my family look like and don't need to see them on the wall in novelty formats. I would prefer something useful, fun, or edible as a gift.

I can see some people loving it but it really depends on their existing tastes.

I don't like it, I wouldn't hang it if I got it as a gift. It would end up gathering dust in a press/cupboard somewhere in the house.

I would say thank you to the person giving it to me at the time but it wouldn't end up on my walls.

lightfalling · 18/05/2022 16:29

I would not like it and it would go in the bottom of a drawer.

Cokehead · 18/05/2022 16:31

I'd absolutely love it- sort of JB Handelsman-style.

How much do they cost? can you share the link?

Davros · 18/05/2022 16:31

I like it but I would NOT want it as a gift. A picture (of any sort) of someone else and their family?Confused

SheWoreYellow · 18/05/2022 16:32

I think it’s really sweet, but I don’t have anywhere to put it. It needs to be in a big corridor on the way to the loo from a farmhouse boot room.

orchidsunrise · 18/05/2022 16:32

Think about what you've seen in peoples houses... do they have similar twee things? Did they have a pregnancy or newborn photo shoot? Do they have Live Laugh Love items around? If so they'll love it.

If not, they won't. So just choose wisely!

Presumably OP means a picture of the recipient's family?

nirvanauk · 18/05/2022 16:33

Thanks everyone, big range of opinions!

A few people asking - obviously the portraits would be of the family receiving the gift, not of my family or any random family!

They are priced at £50 each

Would you mind sharing the link, @nirvanauk ?

TheOrigRights · 18/05/2022 16:40

I can barely see it on the desktop site. The new update is crap.

BlancmanegeBunny · 18/05/2022 16:43

I would smile and thank you, but inwardly cringe and wonder what to do with it. Some people will love it but "art" is very personal taste.

Goldfishmountainclimber · 18/05/2022 16:44

I think it depends very much on personal taste. I wouldn’t want one but that’s just me. Someone else might love it.

Cheericat · 18/05/2022 16:45

I think it's really sweet. I'd be really pleased to receive it, assuming it's fairly small eg A5 or so. I wouldn't want to receive a canvas photo or anything large that is intended to take up wall space - I don't have any big photos hung on the walls. But I'd put that drawn portrait in a photo frame on the mantelpiece or on my desk and enjoy looking at it.

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 18/05/2022 16:47

No l wouldn't but you do whatever you want to do OP Smile

ABIIOR · 18/05/2022 16:48

I'd quite like it if it was small eg A4 at largest, but it's a bit marmite. You'd have to know the recipients well enough to know if it's something they'd appreciate or not.

KentonArcher · 18/05/2022 16:48

Is it of my family or yours??

KentonArcher · 18/05/2022 16:49

Sorry, ignore me! You've answered this one ... (RTFT Kenton!)

JudgeRindersMinder · 18/05/2022 16:50

I’d say the right things because I have manners, but it’s not to my taste so I’d not display it, and I’d feel guilty that you’d wasted your money

Noname1999 · 18/05/2022 16:50

It's nice, but not to my taste. I think it so depends on the person you are giving it to.

hippolyta · 18/05/2022 16:53

Is this meant to be a picture of the giver or recipient?
If it was for doting grandparents then yes, anyone else, no.

picklemewalnuts · 18/05/2022 16:53

I'd think it was very personal, and would like it. You'd need a photo to work with, I assume?

bridgetreilly · 18/05/2022 16:54

I would loathe it.
