Well, we are still going! And still learning about subjects new and old!

As before, only rule is no spoilers!

OP posts:

I solved today's Redactle (#53) in 85 guesses with an accuracy of 56.47%. Played at www.redactle.com/

I could have guessed this one at least 50 guesses earlier.

WheelofLife · 30/05/2022 04:13

Started googling at 312…. I had never heard this word!

PortiaFimbriata · 30/05/2022 07:08

I actually think this is a less well known word than Plasma (Physics). Plasma is general knowledge (stars, TVs, the four states of matter, those lightning ball things), but there's no way I'd know today's if I didn't remember it from school.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/05/2022 08:11

I suppose so - if you're in the field it's a basic concept, but if you're not then it's not the sort of thing that comes up in the general media.

AuntieStella · 30/05/2022 08:17

I learned about [target] in the relevant O level, many moons ago.

But as I said, spelling issue....

Breathmiller · 30/05/2022 08:19

I really didn't like this one. I always kind of groan inside when I realise the general subject matter. I got the second word pretty quickly but would never have found the main word so I asked dh and he got it straight away. I've never ecen heard of it.

I've been doing pedantle too and got that with a bit of googling, much better subject for me on today's one than redactle.

weebarra · 30/05/2022 08:36

I solved today's Redactle (#53) in 209 guesses with an accuracy of 35.41%. Played at www.redactle.com/

Eventually!! This topic was not a favourite of mine and I have clearly forgotten the little I knew!

Redcrayons · 30/05/2022 09:14

Safe to say I didn’t retain much about this subject at school. Got the second word quite early but ran out of connected words very quickly. Plenty of googling as I would never have got it.

I solved today's Redactle (#53) in 264 guesses with an accuracy of 34.85%. Played at www.redactle.com/

psychomath · 30/05/2022 09:24

I got today's in four!! Had an idea of the general area before trying any words and then made a very lucky guess. Think it's safe to say I'm never beating that score again Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 30/05/2022 10:47

I've been doing pedantle too and got that with a bit of googling, much better subject for me on today's one than redactle.

Hopefully not from personal experienceGrin. Todays was one of the less obscure topics at least!

BestIsWest · 30/05/2022 10:51

Hah! Yes, just got the Pedantle. Is it me or are they very obscure?

ErrolTheDragon · 30/05/2022 11:02

Some of them have been absolute stinkers. Homotopy Confused... iirc even someone with a maths degree had to Google that one! Here's a list of the topics so far, and yes, I had to use Google for many of them - not todays. Most i think it's a matter of getting the type of thing and then using whatever means possible!

Pedantle thread

Pedantle: new online word game! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4552901-pedantle-new-online-word-game

PipeScatter · 30/05/2022 17:03

That one took an age and had to resort to google - 178 guesses and 46% accuracy - one of my lower percentages!

On the plus side, I got my first pedantle instead!

valleyofadventure · 30/05/2022 17:10

I must have had a woeful education, I don't remember learning about any of this stuff. I too groaned when I realised what ballpark I was in: I got enough words by stabbing around in the dark but had to google to get the answer.

I solved today's Redactle (#54) in 69 guesses with an accuracy of 34.78%. Played at www.redactle.com/

InMySpareTime · 30/05/2022 17:15

I solved today's Redactle (#54) in 82 guesses with an accuracy of 29.27%. Played at www.redactle.com/

No googling, but I wasted a few guesses filling in paragraphs while I tried to remember the word for the thing!

ApolloandDaphne · 30/05/2022 17:17

Absolutely none of my usual words are there. I'm running out of ways to go with it!

InMySpareTime · 30/05/2022 17:23

@ApolloandDaphne do you need a push in the right direction?

ErrolTheDragon · 30/05/2022 17:24

That took some careful thinking about, memory dredging and letter counting to get the right sort of thing and eliminate other possibilities.

I solved today's Redactle (#54) in 1 guesses with an accuracy of 100.00%. Played at www.redactle.com/

User12398712 · 30/05/2022 17:25

I solved today's Redactle (#54) in 48 guesses with an accuracy of 31.25%. Played at www.redactle.com/

Took a while to get on the right track (not a huge article to work with today!) but once I did, I narrowed it down quite quickly.

I got valency really quickly yesterday but had no idea that valence was a word. I don't know if it's more american or if I'm just old.

InMySpareTime · 30/05/2022 17:28

Yesterday I got valence fairly quickly once I realised it was Chemistry and had the bit about hydrogen, I didn't know valency was a word! I knew covalence and assumed its singular viewpoint would be valence.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/05/2022 17:32

I don't know if it's more american or if I'm just old.

If you read the first sentence of the piece you'd know! GrinI'd never actually realised there was any difference in usage, just two words used more or less interchangeably except in the phrase 'valence bond theory' where only that form works.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/05/2022 17:33

Honestly that's cleverer than just knowing it!

weebarra · 30/05/2022 17:38

I solved today's Redactle (#54) in 96 guesses with an accuracy of 32.29%. Played at www.redactle.com/

Yuck. Not my area of expertise!

takingmytimeonmyride · 30/05/2022 17:41

I solved today's Redactle (#54) in 66 guesses with an accuracy of 31.82%. Played at https://www.redactle.com/

I got what area it was in early on, but just could think of any of the words, so asked DP and his first word was the answer. I think I'll keep him. Grin

Yesterday he said Valency, but DS said Valence. The different ages at which they did/are doing chemistry may have something to do with the different spellings! (Old/modern!)
