Looking for other women for D&D

Hi I'm in the UK and looking to get into playing D&D with some other women. It's proven quite hard to find a women's group so I'm hoping to put together one of my own.

I've never played before so any levels of experience would be welcome. If you've done this before I'd definitely appreciate having someone around that knows the ropes!

Ideally I'd like to have a go as an adventurer but would happily have a shot at being DM if no one else fancies it.

I've put up an ad on a popular D&d forum and have 2 other players interested, but hoping to get a party of up to 6 players + DM if possible.

I was thinking we could meet for game nights either fortnightly or monthly depending on what works for everyone, probably in the evenings to accommodate those with children.

Sorry to add, this would be for online tabletop D&D using Discord, Roll20 or Zoom so it doesn't matter where in the UK you are, you just need to be able to go online. The websites are free to use but you do need to register as a user.

I haven’t played D&D but I game online, have discord and do play other board games so am interested as it’s something I have thought about before.

Hi@CharSiu thanks for replying! I'm a bit nervous as a beginner but it's something I've always wanted to have a go at, a group of friends years back used to do a weekly game night. One of the games we tried was sort of similar to D&d called The Descent and it was great fun!

I've not actually tried discord yet, is it easy to use?

No problem. I had the same when I tried to search for women's groups lol.

The ad on Roll20 doesn't say much more than it's for 5th edition rules and open to women 18+ because I think a lot of younger folk use Roll20 too and I can be a bit sweary sometimes

I thought if there was enough interest we could firm up the rest of the details later but I'm really open to any suggestions at all from everyone.

Ha! Predictably, I've had a message from a bloke asking if he can join! I feel a little mean saying no, but the point was to have a wee safe space for just us women to come and have a bit of RPG fun.

Wow I'm really pleased that there's been a few responses already, I wasn't sure if this wouldn't just fade away down the page!

Like Paawi I've been interested in D&D for so so long but never had an opportunity to even watch a game! My brother used to play years ago, every week, and invited me along often, but I was working long hours and couldn't go.

I'm uncertain about committing, though, as my life is fairly chaotic and it's difficult to impress upon people that 'unavailable' means exactly that.

Do you think you could manage most meet ups?

As far as I know a decent sized party can manage without a player every now and then, I think the usual craic is that your character would be 'piloted' by the DM or another player you choose.

I think as long as it's not like most of the games and it's not disrupting the other players it's cool.

I understand there is going to be an element of trying it all on for size so we might lose some folk and gain some folk after a few games.

I think that's one of the reasons I'd like to start out with around 6 adventurers, hopefully that way there will always be enough folk available on the chosen game nights.

@MissNothing1991 that should be fine, was aiming for evening games to account for those with children or other responsibilities.

The session 0 meet up will involve working out how often we meet, what times and all those other bits of important info and we'll try and find something that works for everyone

Ooh, I'd be interested. I'm a beginner and currently in a campaign, but we only get to play once or twice a month due to our DMs work shifts, and my DDs visiting their Dad.

I'd much rather be a weird, grown woman who plays D&d than to be as mean and judgemental about other people's harmless pastimes as you are... I know who I'd rather hang out with anyway!
