Most unpleasant celeb you've ever met?

bobbingalongside · 09/05/2022 19:27

I met a well known mum of a celebrity today. I was offering to give her a hand as she had dropped some shopping on the way to her car.

She shouted 'Don't touch! It's fruit Confused' I said oh sorry, thought you needed a hand there. She said no, just don't touch. I'm fine.

I was shocked and walked off.

Have you ever met a celebrity that's been rude? Or sounded rude even if they weren't actually speaking to you?

OperationMincemeat · 10/05/2022 17:14

I sat on Rolf Harris' lap when I was a child once. So yeah, it would have to be him, though unpleasant is not the word for how he turned out.

I once met Prince Henrik of Denmark. He was very smiley and friendly. But his handshake was so firm it really hurt my hand! (His home grown wine was also a little astringent to my tastes).

I presume someone introduced you because otherwise - who? Grin

LondonJax · 10/05/2022 17:24

Many moons ago Eddie Large was getting through security at the airport ahead of me. He was asked to put something or other on the belt and said the classic 'don't you know who I am' to which the security woman said 'I know who you are and the rules stay the same'.

Tom Baker - ex Dr Who - used to get a train from our local station and would always hold the door to the ticket office open for everyone. And chat to anyone sitting near him on the train. Apparently he sometimes shops locally and always has a chat to the assistants.

Gaby Logan
Nigel Havers
Art Garfunkel
Celine Dion
Robbie Williams

All horrific

Yay for someone else supporting my view on Gabby Logan - so many people don't believe me when I tell them what she did/said!

He was a friend/acquaintance of the father of one of DHs' friends. It was complicated, but very lovely and I felt very excited about it. :)

Not nice - Vivienne Westwood, Prince Charles, Kate Hoey, Edwina Currie, David Cameron, Rio Ferdinand, Diane Abbott, Aneka Rice, pretty well every racing driver I've ever met

Nice - Emma Thompson, Toby Jones, Joanna Lumley, Anita Pallenberg, Kate Moss, Usain Bolt, John Thaw, John Major, Boris, Judi Dench, Colin Firth, Rupert Everett, Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, Margaret Mountford, Linford Christie, Countess of Wessex, Duchess of Cambridge, Sheku Kane Mason

Nice but can be a bit direct - Princess Anne, Maggie Smith, Jo Brand, Andrew O Neill, Jeremy Clarkson

Silversprinkles · 10/05/2022 17:35

@LetHimHaveIt I'm delighted to hear that about David Niven. He always seemed to be a quintessential gentleman.

TheFoldOx · 10/05/2022 17:36

@Georgeskitchen I tried to guess yesterday but it got lost in the hundreds of messages. Was your radio presenter a certain Stannage, late of Piccadilly Radio and Key103?

How is Carol Wright consider herself to be a celebrity? She is just an ageing wag and identikit Essex housewife with a bunch of dim kids who have all lost their clothes.

Dim kids making millions, though.

Steady on, or you'll incur the wrath of a PP who thinks becoming a millionaire is a somehow a tremendous skill, and that the perma-tanned, polo-shirt-'n'-sockless-loafers smirker 'Wrighty', is David Frost for millennials.

Hi there.

Interesting comment you've just entirely made up!

I heard this from a reputable source as well

If it's someone whos said it since she died, then their repute is not worth the paper it's written on.

When I worked in a shop Bruce Jones (was in Corrie), was quite rude to me. His friend was embarrassed and apologised.

in the late 90’s to mid 2000’s, Bruce Jones lived in Marple, Stockport, was regularly to be seen legless in the local pubs, usually rude and abusive and was eventually banned from most of them.

Eons ago Liz Dawn, she played Vera Duckworth in Corrie, lived next door to my late MIL, MIL used to say that her loud character was based on herself, she and her husband went at it hammer and tong.

Gingergee · 10/05/2022 17:54

@Trinacham oh no! I always thought Warwick Davis seemed like such a lovely man.

Little surprised by Mark Lemar too, he's very dry but didn't think he was a d*ck.

My mum met Robbie Williams in a pub years back and went over and asked for his autograph and he was really rude to her and refused.

On another note my friend served Dawn French in a shop once and apparently she was so lovely.

Seashanty3 · 10/05/2022 17:58

Sandi Toksvig. I have worked with a lot of celebs thanks to my job, and she is the very very worst of them all.

Montymorency · 10/05/2022 17:58

nastiest: cliff richard, sylvia syms
loveliest; sue pollard, craig charles

YouWhatLove · 10/05/2022 17:58

I worked with Caroline Flack a few times and she was always lovely, although also very obviously used to take a lot of cocaine and suffered from awful comedowns.

The worst celebrity I ever met was Paul Merton, without a doubt. He was a friend of a friend who had apparently liked my work and was looking for an interior designer. I arranged a meeting as I was a fan of his work even though I was booked for months and within minutes of arriving it was very clear he didn’t want me there. I asked him if he wanted me to leave as he was being so rude and he said “I really don’t care, as long as you do your job and stop hassling me you can carry on”. I was an interior designer, I could just start redecorating his flat without a little bit of an idea as to what he wanted. I told him he was probably best finding someone else, he huffed and asked me if I was always so rude and walked out leaving me alone in his flat. Such a weird experience.

HRTQueen · 10/05/2022 18:00

Well I have enjoyed a bit of gossip and it’s reminded me of this The Oi No Self Righteous Brothers 😆😡😆

and Prince Harry has a brilliant sense of humour and you almost forget who you’re talking to.

That reminds me that a few years ago I was driving my granddaughter somewhere near Kings Lynn and we were stuck in traffic. She suddenly let out a massive laugh and said That man's pulling funny faces at me! As we started to move off a quick glance let me see it was Harry, he gave her a wave as they went by.

LuluBlakey1 · 10/05/2022 18:02

Sam Fender is lovely - just the nicest. Lives locally and makes time for anyone who speaks to him.

Twat off Celebrity Antiques something- Scottish bloke. DH and I met him in Carlisle outside a cafe and he was appallingly rude to people. Paul something. Thinks he's a snappy dresser onscreen. Is it Paul Laidlaw? Looked filthy and was just awful- he must be local and people were speaking to him. He was snappy, sneery, muttering, swearing.

Luminousnose · 10/05/2022 18:03

My brother used to work as stage crew in theatres. Had some very entertaining stories but he found Barry Humphries particularly unpleasant.

Glad it wasn’t just me!

I was with DH so couldn’t betray much, but my goodness, the butterflies! 😁

Reminds me of when I was eyed up by Jack Davenport. This was a very long time ago. Obviously in my mind's eye, I was bring eyed up. Reality was probably totally different!
