Most unpleasant celeb you've ever met?

1015 replies

bobbingalongside · 09/05/2022 19:27

I met a well known mum of a celebrity today. I was offering to give her a hand as she had dropped some shopping on the way to her car.

She shouted 'Don't touch! It's fruit Confused' I said oh sorry, thought you needed a hand there. She said no, just don't touch. I'm fine.

I was shocked and walked off.

Have you ever met a celebrity that's been rude? Or sounded rude even if they weren't actually speaking to you?

PineMartenPeanutbutter · 10/05/2022 18:05

I’m curious about Paul McCartney. What was it he did?

Alohaaa · 10/05/2022 18:05

It must be really difficult to put on a happy face all the time and getting followed and/or asked for autographs while trying to relax and eat a meal etc would become unbearable after a while. That said, here’s my shit list and hit list.

Awful:
Lenny Henry
Alan Shearer
Dawn French
Elton John
Jane Seymour

Lovely:
Anthony Head
Simon Le Bon
Simon from Blue
Joanna Lumley

Luminousnose · 10/05/2022 18:05

@SapatSea
You too? It was also the late 80s when I came across him.

If only someone would invent Google.

Out of curiosity I did Google her, and I am still none the wiser. A shoe designer?

I haven't heard of 90% of the "celebrities" mentioned on this thread.

Kanaloa · 10/05/2022 18:07

Gwenhwyfar · 10/05/2022 16:28

Is he supposed to find you fascinating?

Well no, but he’s supposed to show the base level of respect while doing his job. I work in retail and no matter how pissed off I am I don’t think I’d get away with scanning someone’s shopping and rolling my eyes saying ‘ugh how much more of this do I need to do?’ It’s unprofessional. If you don’t want to take photos/do fan stuff then you must decide that before announcing a cruise ship appearance where you will be doing fan stuff.

I actually feel quite unsettled by it. I felt like a dirty member of staff that was bothering her or something.. and I too was a customer! Not staff

It seems a shame she is being judged in a public forum by one negative interaction.

As a former supermarket employee I would think someone who described shop staff as dirty was pretty nasty. As if being a customer rather than an employee guaranteed higher standards of personal hygiene. This isn't the 1840s when shop staff were the lower orders !

Were you not able to Google with all the information on this thread and find any information whatsoever on who this woman was? Because I’ve never heard of her but with the information on the thread I have a pretty good idea of who she is - the mother of a reality TV show celebrity.

Although actually knowing who she is isn’t really necessary - all you need to understand is that she’s a celebrity who op recognised. But I suspect all these posters are just thrilled to announce they wouldn’t recognise a reality tv show star if it ate them alive.

Shock

@Wilkolampshade - maybe he was having a bad day?

I met him several times through work and he was always friendly, polite and professional. He also seemed rather down to Earth for one of the most famous people on the planet.

Grace Dent and Miranda Richardson on the other hand…

Sitchervice · 10/05/2022 18:12

christopher Eccleston dated my cousin then stalked her when she broke up with him.

Petrifiedtossed · 10/05/2022 18:13

@Wilkolampshade
Yes he has always been the charming one in the Beatles. I don't believe he's a wanker at all. He's also very down to earth I believe. Doesn't show off his money and prestige.

Gwenhwyfar · 10/05/2022 18:15

"I don’t think I’d get away with scanning someone’s shopping and rolling my eyes saying ‘ugh how much more of this do I need to do?’"

I see totally bored retail staff rolling their eyes and playing with their phones all the time and I don't blame them. he said the how much more to his colleagues didn't he and not directly to you/the customer.

CPL593H · 10/05/2022 18:19

Not my story, but a friend (decades ago) used to drink in a pub in Chelsea where George Best was a regular. He said that GB did nothing to draw attention to himself but the amount of people going up to talk to him was relentless and invasive and often were clearly interrupting private conversations. Friend said that GB was always extremely polite.

Vile, entitled behaviour towards (eg) restaurant staff, airline crew and shop workers is never acceptable from anyone, but thinking people who are shopping, drinking in a pub or having a meal really want to talk to complete strangers is gauche and rude.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 10/05/2022 18:21

I must be getting old. A generous estimate is that I've heard of about a quarter of the people mentioned on this thread, and I wouldn't know Carol and Mark Wright if I fell over them. I've had an encounter with Bill Oddie, though. Mine was extremely humorous and I didn't approach him, but he gave me a broad, saucy wink when he saw me after it (in fun, not lecherous) and I could feel my face burning! For those claiming he's rude, he does struggle badly with his mental health and this can apparently be to the detriment of his colleagues, etc., so that needs to be borne in mind when berating someone for their behaviour.

A good friend of mine tacitly knows Chris Packham, having worked with him on a handful of occasions. She claims he's always as kind and charming as the accounts of him upthread. I'm pleased about this: I like his work and his passion and commitment to it very much and I find him eloquent and inspiring. I also feel for him, having been at the butt of the most horrible intimidation at the hands of what I can only assume are people who don't like his conservation work or his efforts to ban certain cruel sports.

The same friend has also met a few times with the Red Dwarf cast. She said they were all fine but it was Danny John-Jules who was a bit grand and aloof.

Emmelina · 10/05/2022 18:22

All those I’ve met personally have been lovely.
A friend went on Deal or no deal and Noel Edmonds was apparently an absolute arsehole between cuts.

Oh my god, Late Night Love with Graham Torrington (can't shorten it ever, it's against the law 😁) - that was the tits when I was a teen! Loved it, I so hope he's not a twat!

Not a twat, but not what you'd expect at all. (Or at least not what I or my friends expected).

LeniGray · 10/05/2022 18:35

All my interactions with famous people are work related, I wouldn’t dream of going up to someone - but I’m not interested in celebrity culture, and wouldn’t recognise at lot of them anyway.

I sold something to Paul McCartney once, he was with Heather Mills, and she waited by the door while he came up to pay. People were staring at him, and I kind of felt a bit bad for him really. I just remember thinking how scruffy he was…. and I’m not exactly the epitome of fashion, so it’s not something I’d usually notice.

Sir Ranulph Fiennes was exceptionally well-mannered, engaging, curious and quick-witted, yet a little shy-seeming. I had a long conversation with him, and only later was informed who he was 😳 I recognised him the second time I met him 🧐

Kanaloa · 10/05/2022 18:35

For those claiming he's rude, he does struggle badly with his mental health and this can apparently be to the detriment of his colleagues, etc., so that needs to be borne in mind when berating someone for their behaviour.

Does this extend to everyone? Would you be happy for your colleagues to be rude to you as long as they struggled with their mental health? I know I wouldn’t. I have all the sympathy (have struggled with my own mental health) but your struggles don’t entitle you to make your colleagues lives unhappy. The onus is on you to get help, not to make others miserable.

Am I the only one who hasn't heard of half of these 'celebrities'?

No. I have been kept busy googling for some of them. Not because I am highbrow, I have heard of Mark Wright, but I think that describing the ex-goalie of the Olympic men’s hockey team as a celebrity, as a PP did, stretches the definition a bit!

I laughed at this, from a PP:

OP: tell me the most unpleasant celeb you've met.

:Such and such - met them at No Place, they did this this and that, they were absolutely lovely.

Every thread of this nature goes the same way. Usually you get three pages of people actually answering the question before somebody can restrain themselves no longer and feels the need to tell us that they once met Joanna Lumley or Michael Palin, always, always, Lumley and Palin, and they were lovely and delightful.

Why? The OP asked about rude celebrities! It’s almost as if people are so excited about their celeb encounter that they can’t stop themselves from dragging the thread off on a tangent so that they can show off.

notagamer · 10/05/2022 18:37

Chill out
it is putting another perspective of a person in to the mix. Very relevant

but you just wanted an utter bitch feet, didn’t you? Lovely

Caminante · 10/05/2022 18:39

Ooh I've got a couple...
Met Michael Gambon briefly once and he was charming and polite.
Met Jonathan Ross and ditto...very early in his career though so maybe the novelty has worn off by now 😂

Well no, I did one search but then wasn't very motivated to refine it further 😅

Iamthewombat · 10/05/2022 18:47

I am entertained by the concept of ‘bitch feet’ though.

Windowboxgardener · 10/05/2022 18:48

hit list

Princess Anne
Rowan Atkinson
Philip Schofield
Nicole Kidman
Dan Snow
Jo Whiley
Dave Hairy Biker
David Gauke (nicest politician)
Joe Swift
Michael Portillo (looks grumpy but surprisingly charming)

shit list

I could name a few but won’t because even celebs have off days

however everything people have said about Gary Lineker is sadly true
