Most unpleasant celeb you've ever met?

1015 replies

bobbingalongside · 09/05/2022 19:27

I met a well known mum of a celebrity today. I was offering to give her a hand as she had dropped some shopping on the way to her car.

She shouted 'Don't touch! It's fruit Confused' I said oh sorry, thought you needed a hand there. She said no, just don't touch. I'm fine.

I was shocked and walked off.

Have you ever met a celebrity that's been rude? Or sounded rude even if they weren't actually speaking to you?

Lethim, I'm glad you mentioned David Niven. He's my dad's favourite actor of all time and he actually worked with him. And that's how he describes him...a true gentleman. Filming was halted due to rain and they spent days sheltering and talking. My dad was a mere extra but DN took a shine to him (my dad is a pretty eccentric and interesting character) and always sought him out. He also said Bob Hoskins and Michael York were very pleasant and friendly

The rumours have been around for years and I seem to remember a number of MNers having relations with him

strange choice the characters he is most recently playing

Jimmy saville was nasty to me as a child. It was just words but even that wasn't believed when we told adults.

MummyPebble · 09/05/2022 23:28

I got accused of being a serial killer by some odd person a few years ago when I posted my negative experience of meeting someone, he must have lots of fans here so we won't be doing that again😊

Met Johnathan Ross a couple times through work and he's always been lovely. Randomly met Alan Shearer in Newcastle airport and he was really nice too.

Cilla was notorious for her rudeness. There’s some aviation forum, I can’t remember the name, where her name used to be absolute mud; she was easily the most hated celebrity on there. Apparently, cabin crew were under strict instructions to never dare to look at her.

Apparently there was a flamboyant male cabin crew member who dared to talk to "our Cilla" on a flight once, she totally blanked him, to which he retorted "Well I knew you couldn't sing, but I didn't know you couldn't talk either"...not sure if it's true or not but I don't care, it's bloody funny..

Allthepettythings · 09/05/2022 23:29

@pixie5121 I was shocked and quite upset, I still watch her on tv and fall into the trap of thinking she’s lovely, very odd!

Do her children count as celebrities? I remember when you needed a talent to be a celebrity.

Mark is a millionaire. I think you need something about you to achieve that.

alltoomuchrightnow · 09/05/2022 23:30

Some of my other favourites for loveliness and being down to earth and friendly...
Judi Dench
John Peel
Clare Grogan
Lloyd Cole (what a sweetheart!)
Colin Firth
Jeremy Irons
Dean Sullivan from Brookside, who actually made me a cup of coffee
but most of all... Pierce Brosnan! I was the smitten 17 yr old who got a hug and kiss and he smelt DIVINE

When he was little, DH was slapped on the head by Geoff Capes. So he's definitely the rudest celeb I've never met.

OMG that's just brought back a memory of asking for his autograph (Geoff Capes, not your DH) at a county fair type thing and he was so rude to me and my pal. I was only about 8!! Can't believe that's been buried in my subconscious for so long.

I was going to say Nicolas Witchell. Tiny ginger prick.

Your dad sounds ace. V glad to hear Bob Hoskins was lovely. Would've dealt v badly with reports to the contrary. Barely coping with the news that Rickman could be unpleasant :(

Have we learned nothing?!

Excuse me?

Important to note that these were impressions based on single incidents:
Rufus Hound: rude and aggressive to a train guard who pointed out that his ticket wasn't valid.
Alex James from Blur: friendly and welcoming to my colleague, who'd followed him round the Royal Show desperate for a photo.
Brian Moore (rugby): as verbose as he is on TV, keen to make his point but also happy to stop and talk, and sign an autograph.
Mike Gatting: miserable sod!
Lawrence Dallaglio: most interested in Lawrence Dallaglio.
Tom Shanklin: utterly down to earth, you'd have no idea he was an international rugby player.
Stephen Gately: quite, unassuming, almost shy.

Not sure they count as celebrities, but I've had a fair bit to do with numerous politicians. Most are actually decent people, and party makes no difference to this. The most polite and pleasant I ever dealt with was Hilary Benn.

Can definitely second Tom Shanklin. I’ve met him a couple of times and each time he’s been very kind and humble. Shane Williams and Ryan Jones are the same and Gavin Henson seemed very shy the few times I’ve met him but perfectly polite.

Michael Sheen is always friendly and my Dad wouldn’t hear a bad word said about Elizabeth Taylor. He met her twice and they chatted for a good half an hour each time about anything and everything. She definitely charmed him!

DH however says that Nigel Mansel was an arrogant dickhead and it took a lot of restraint not to give him a thump!

When David Niven died, the porters at Heathrow sent an enormous floral tribute, with a card reading: '"To the finest gentleman who ever walked through these halls. He made a porter feel like a king."

Got a bit weepy at that.

LetHimHaveIt · 09/05/2022 23:34

'Mark is a millionaire. I think you need something about you to achieve that.'

I have to presume you're one of his sycophantic wingmen. He's got all the talent and charisma of a freezer bag.

alltoomuchrightnow · 09/05/2022 23:34

Lethim, my dad also raves about how lovely Gemma Craven was..he was madly in love with her ...he had to kill her in a tv series! He ran her over on his bike I think! (he went up a ramp really) And Josie Lawrence was lovely
I'm also going to mention James Whale and Pete Murray for their huge hearts and kindness

Yes really! Absolutely lovely 😊

Do you mean Axl Rose?

If so, I agree. Both him and Slash were absolute gentlemen 🥰

I get a bit weepy every time I read it.

alltoomuchrightnow · 09/05/2022 23:38

PS my ex DP (whom I live with so asked) says Greg Lake was the rudest and biggest pain in the arse ever, just not to him.... they used to say,,,''what do you not want on a tour... ear ache, leg ache and Greg Lake...''

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 09/05/2022 23:38

@Mammyloveswine I've met Alan Shearer and he was lovely!

Gabby Roslin was a right self centered cow when I met her. Drives me mad when she's on telly being all lovely and smiley to everyone

Wilkolampshade · 09/05/2022 20:29

Paul McCartney.
Wanker.

My aunt met him and also said he was incredibly rude.

Herejustforthisone · 09/05/2022 23:40

David Niven. ❤️

So glad to hear so many of my favourites are lovely. I always read these threads a bit nervously.

Geoffrey Palmer! He was very, very funny.

Odessafile · 09/05/2022 23:40

Partner had dealings with Peter Kay. Vile. I know other people who’ve met him too (through his kids) and they say the same. Not the man of the people he likes to think he is..

shreddednips · 09/05/2022 23:41

grenlei · 09/05/2022 20:33

Sacha Baron Cohen.
Admittedly this was before he was famous but he was such a bellend then I think he's unlikely to have improved.

Ben Elton

Not met her personally but I'm reliably informed Miriam Margolyes is awful.

Gianfranco Zola (ex Chelsea/ Italian footballer) is lovely and very polite.

I was an extra in a film with Miriam Margoles in it and can confirm she is not nice at all!

Met Katie Price years ago in a queue at a Madonna concert. Tiny, pretty and really quite adorable.

Nigel Farage - cracking bloke, talks to and has time for everyone.

Jo Johnstone - dull as bleeding ditchwater.

My Dad is doing some work for one of Sting’s daughters and says she’s a doll. He did some work for Tom Baker (Doctor Who) yonks ago and said he was absolute cunt.

DH also said the said thing about Tom Baker, he was gutted, he was a big fan before that.

ToesToTheStars · 09/05/2022 23:42

I used to work at the Waitrose Ainsley Harriet uses regularly - me and the staff always used to hate it when we saw in coming in as he was always absolutely vile to anyone in his path.

Never met anyone else!
