Most unpleasant celeb you've ever met?

I met a well known mum of a celebrity today. I was offering to give her a hand as she had dropped some shopping on the way to her car.

She shouted 'Don't touch! It's fruit Confused' I said oh sorry, thought you needed a hand there. She said no, just don't touch. I'm fine.

I was shocked and walked off.

Have you ever met a celebrity that's been rude? Or sounded rude even if they weren't actually speaking to you?

I met quite a few actors from TV shows and movies (Buffy, Star Wars, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, Superman, Dr Who etc) at Comicons and conventions, most of them were very nice and polite and chatty. The only one who wasn't (and I had seen him there on several occasions) was the guy who played Xander in Buffy.

I met Billy Boys (Pippin in Lord of the Rings) a few times, always nice and friendly. Daniela Nardini ( This Life) - lovely. Colin and Justin ( the interior decorators who had a couple of TV shows) , quite friendly but a bit surprised I didn't know who they were Grin .

I have a few friends who met Morrisey quite a few times and apparently he is not a nice person.

I bumped into Billy at a festival. Lovely man!

I’ve thought of two more nice ones. They’ve been mentioned before. Brian May and Chris Packham. Brian is so freakin’ smart and kind. He has a lovely presence. Chris is also brilliant and funny (very dry).

Ben Fogle is very sweet, quite shy and guarded though.

Ronan Keating was really friendly, too. Shane Lynch was coked up and wildly inappropriate but funny.

Denise Van Outen was polished but very friendly, even though she was knackered. Her (now ex I think) boyfriend Eddie was legendary. He’s really funny.

Oh I’ve thought of a rude one! Nick Knowles. He was wankered though.

Rob Bryden was nice too. Not as Bryn-like as I’d have liked, but a nice, smiley man.

Giles Coren, both patronising and lecherous.

Who?

beachcomber70 · 09/05/2022 23:06

Brian Clough was horrible when my sons [13 and 10, football mad] spotted him and smiled at him in Majorca. He pulled a face and turned his back on them.

John Cleese was driving alongside us on the M4 for a while once in slow moving traffic in his open topped [high end] car. We did a quick wave but was ignored [don't blame him really].

Heard that Ben Fogle & his wife are not that pleasant to deal with and that Kate Humble, from those stuck on a boat with her, is not actually that humble. Tony Robinson was too friendly...😦

I worked at a pub/restaurant/hotel v v near Longleat in about 2005/6. Humble, Fogle et al came in a lot. He was actually ok but she was pretty curt and fairly self-absorbed. Their crew, however, made them look positively charming by comparison. Bunch of cunts. As a consequence, they've now made it impossible for me to give a shiny shit when BBC workers are threatened with redundancy/poised to undertake industrial action.

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 09/05/2022 23:10

Toby Anstis - queue jumped us at last orders in a tiny pub in the middle of nowhere, he totally played the don’t you know who I am card when we complained. He took so long fucking about we didn’t get served. He is at the top of my shit list.

I have met far bigger celebs who are gracious and don’t behave like twats. My absolute favourite is Tom Hanks. He is a true star.

Not you Toby. Drink nicking twat. We had to walk five miles through woods to that pub. 25 years later I’m still bitter.

Allthepettythings · 09/05/2022 23:11

@pixie5121 Ok 😅

Yes, Holly Willoughby

Kat1953 · 09/05/2022 23:12

Very few of these surprise me!

Though reading Alan Rickman was unpleasant to work with is pretty gutting and I might pretend I didn't see it.

Tbf I can be pretty abrupt if I'm out and about and someone speaks to me unexpectedly :( I'm very shy and it's the age old thing of it coming across as badly. If I were a celeb I would definitely be on this list - especially if I were having a bad day!

That was my first thought.

I hadn’t realised, and wouldn’t know Mark Wright’s mum if I fell over her. Does she count as a celebrity in her own right?

Do her children count as celebrities? I remember when you needed a talent to be a celebrity.

Hilary Benn - met him a couple of times. Really nice chap, polite and decent.

My son met Sara Cox in connection with his work, spoke well of her. Maybe being fellow Lancastrians in Yorkshire helped.

Johnny Marr - of the Smiths - helped out my nephew musically, very welcoming.

TryingNotToReact9to5 · 09/05/2022 22:08

Bill Oddie
I lived in Hampstead and I smiled at him thinking he was familiar from somewhere (doh) and he scowled back at me so deliberately I recoiled in shock.

He would be my nomination too. I was interviewing him on the radio when he was promoting a book he'd written - I dread to think what he'd be like when he didn't have something to sell.
Jilly Cooper on the other hand - well I was going to go for complete sweetheart as a change from absolutely lovely, but I see Ambertonix has got in first. Completely charming?

alltoomuchrightnow · 09/05/2022 23:16

I met Kylie when I was 17 and a huge fan, she was pretty rude, I was gutted, it was such a slap in the face because she spoke personally to me...and I was so polite and not in her face...I saw her other times and was smiley and friendly; possibly had an off day?
I worked with Angela Rippon several years later , she was AWFUL and so up herself . I worked for a famous radio show so met literally hundreds of celebs.
Michael Winner was by far my worst experience but that was to be expected I guess! Also such a lech...Nigella's late husband (John Diamond?) was very rude to me too. As a young woman working in the media you had to have a tough skin. Luckily some that I call 'proper celebs' always stuck up for me.
Everyone I worked with always said the same thing about Cilla, Vic Reeves, Esther Rantzen... that they were so rude. Gutted about Vic as I still love him!

Long ago, working in the ITN building Angela Rippon and Selina Scott were horrid to one and all, Sir Trevor McDonald would hold the door open for everyone and thank anyone for asking for an autograph - a very chivalrous knight.
My mother would take a bullet for Anton Du Beke who was kindness personified and a friend's mum spent an hour in the company of a very entertaining 'tall German man' who thought it was hilarious that someone in London didn't recognise Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I met Sir Trevor McDonald last year and he was lovely.

'They have no idea who you are, and they didn't get where they are by being nice. They got famous by being unusual and unreasonable. Deal with it.'

They don't have to be lovely; it's just nicer if they're not cunts for no fucking reason 🙄

It's perfectly possible to get to the very top and be a good egg, btw. When David Niven died, the porters at Heathrow sent an enormous floral tribute, with a card reading: '"To the finest gentleman who ever walked through these halls. He made a porter feel like a king." Tom Hanks is another good example. The idea that someone like 'Beckie off Corrie' isn't very nice because she's had a hardscrabble life getting to the top, like she's Judy Garland or something, is fucking hilarious.

Jaxhog · 09/05/2022 23:19

I met Pauline Quirk at a charity do a few years ago, and she was lovely. So was her husband.

Haydugee · 09/05/2022 23:20

Sorry to say that I absolutely refuse to watch any of Mr Tumble / Justin Fletcher shows as he is vile.

My then toddler and I randomly met Justin, and he could not have been nicer. Spent ages chatting and laughing with DS and posed for a photo. Lovely lovely man.

NannyGythaOgg · 09/05/2022 23:21

Judy Murray seems to be the only one who has come up a number of times on here and everyone positive.

I think there is a difference (but still no excuse) when celebs are rude to people such as shop or waiting staff which is totally abhorrent and being rude to those 'interrupting' their private life, which is still fucking rude but possibly a little more understandable.

Razbitso · 09/05/2022 23:21

To be fair to Brian Clough - he didn’t have a reliable public face but he was a good guy. A boy friend was related to him and he did some genuinely good things for friends and family without wanting any fuss. He had a big heart underneath.

GCAcademic · 09/05/2022 23:22

Cilla was notorious for her rudeness. There’s some aviation forum, I can’t remember the name, where her name used to be absolute mud; she was easily the most hated celebrity on there. Apparently, cabin crew were under strict instructions to never dare to look at her.

alltoomuchrightnow · 09/05/2022 23:23

I know Bruce Forsyth was an absolute horror too
So who would win my award for loveliest of all time?? All Eastenders actually..
Gillian Taylforth, Peter Dean, June Brown, Pam St Clement. Luisa Bradshaw-White. All lovely, fun, down to earth. Gretchen Franklin could be a horror but let her off as was v old ahd her rudeness was legendary and amusing! Adam Woodyatt a grumpy git always
My ex DP works in the music industry and has worked with some huge stars..his favourite of all time? Tina Turner heads above all the rest. He says David Furnish is truly lovely and , he got on v well with the 'fearsome' Grace Jones! Will Smith was a bit of an arse or rather his huge excessive entourage was. He found Nick Rhodes exceptionally unpleasant and creepy...very nasty vibes. Andy Taylor always too high on coke to get to know what he was like. He was very close friends with Greg Lake

newnamethanks · 09/05/2022 23:25

Older women may appreciate this. The actor Terence Stamp was lovely to my friend who spotted him on a no 24 bus. She fangirled on about his magnificent performance in the film Blow Up and he was charm itself. Later that evening she remembered he hadn't actually been in the film at all.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 09/05/2022 23:26

Surprised to read about Mark Lamar and Jo Brand. Met both of them and they were both very lovely and very down to earth. I was surprised that JB in particular was naturally incredibly funny.

Maybe others had a bad day or I had a good day, who knows
