I know a young couple in their early 20's who have a young son, who is nearly 20 months old. The Girl's mother is dating her boyfriend's dad. So if they were to marry, they will be step brother and sister, her mother will be also her stepmother and also mother in law, if the girl marries her boyfriend.
I know there is no blood relation, only by marriage, but think this is werid and borderline incest.

I do understand incest. Have mention no blood relation. Not judging was just saying.
Not sure who got together 1st, no the parents are not married.

This is happening in my family but not marriage. I think it’s disgusting as my sister and her partner actually have a child together. My mum tries to justify being with his dad as they are both the grandchild’s “Nan and grandad” but it doesn’t work that way does it!

it’s disgusting in my view but not against the law and nothing that can be done.

Why is it disgusting? No one is related here. Everyone is an adult. Do you think it is disgusting if a parent ends up with a kid's teacher? What about if a widow ends up with their deceased partner's brother? Do you have all sorts of rules? No laws broken. No morals compromised

It must be time for this then

This is hilarious! If a little hard to follow. Thank you for posting.

And no, not incest op.

oakleaffy · 08/05/2022 16:01

Hardly Blood related.
Incest is first cousin , father -daughter , Brother-sister.

some nasty recessive traits can then come to the fore.
Haw River syndrome is particularly unpleasant and echoes down the generations.

AgentProvocateur · 08/05/2022 16:03

first cousin isn’t incest. First cousins can get married.

thenumberseven · 08/05/2022 16:03

Incest is a very serious accusation and should not be bandied about lightly, what you describe is not incest.

Sweepingeyelashes · 08/05/2022 16:04

"Incest" according to the Oxford Dictionary is sexual intercourse between people too closely related to marry each other. So I can't understand how you can think people who have no blood relationship can be committing "borderline" incest. They're hardly the Hapsburgs.

RadFad · 08/05/2022 16:09

Our neighbours in a similar situation. Her Mum got together and married his Dad after they had been together a while.
I don't really see anything wrong with it. There is no blood relation so 100% not incest.

I think it has a Midsomer Murder potential, it turns out that many years ago the girl's father had a sneaky weekend with the girl's mother and they're actually half siblings!

I don't think it's disgusting. Two older people who are unattached began seeing each other after meeting at a family event.
It's not a situation I'd like being around as I can see a lot of potential for complications, and relationship issues would need to be totally off the agenda between the two couples. But not disgusting.

MysteriousMonkey · 08/05/2022 16:12

Yes you are being weird. HtH

PowerfulWombSpaceRespector · 08/05/2022 16:16

My uncle was married to his step sister. Their parents were together but didn't marry until after their children did. My cousin was the golden grandchild as the biological off spring of both my grandparents, we were very much unfavoured.

User643626363 · 08/05/2022 16:18

Bit odd but not incest. Scenarios happen like this all the time. I know someone who had a kid with his stepsister. His mum married a bloke who had kids with ex wife. He started a relationship and they had a baby. No longer together but his mum and stepdad are. It does make things a little tense.

I also know someone who found out she had a long lost half brother from a relationship her dad had, before anyone panics nothing happened between her and her half brother but she started a relationship with her half brothers, half brother and had a kid with him. No incest but a bit strange and adds to the family dynamic 😅I guess the long lake half brother was a double uncle? 🤷‍♀️

Lost not lake **

I don't understand the problem. It might all get a bit confusing if the older couple had a child together, but otherwise, what's the issue here?

Totally agree. It's just gossip and scandalmongering. Nobody else's business.

Ponderingwindow · 08/05/2022 16:21

not remotely

even if the parents had met and married first, it wouldn’t necessarily be incestuous. Sibling bonds can form between step-siblings but they aren’t automatic.

User643626363 · 08/05/2022 16:21

I also know another situation that a bloke had kids with a few ladies who were also full siblings at various times over a 30 year span - he was form a different culture, but they weren't. He had relationships with them throughout time and didn't stick around tor the kids much. It was very bizarre. Although the act between him and the sisters was not incest. The children were cousins as well as half siblings. Again not really incestral but pushing the boundaries. I don't think the situation you explain is all that bad. Could be worse situations 🤷‍♀️

SpidersAreShitheads · 08/05/2022 16:23

I don't understand your point at all OP.

If the step brother and step sister had grown up together from a young age and had a close relationship as brother and sister, then yes, it would feel a little icky even if it's not illegal.

But two adults meet and fall in love. And then their single parents are introduced to each and happen to fall in love. I don't know in what universe there's anything at all wrong in that.

I knew of a couple who had DC..her mum had a affair with her partner..they split and her kids dad moved in with the kids granny..

I know of a situation like this too…..family has been torn apart

Mandy Smith married Bill Wyman and her mum married Bill Wyman's son. Not incest. Creepy, weird, unsettling and disturbing, but not incest.

As an incest survivor, I find your use of the word incest to describe a relationship that is slightly unusual, annoying.

But isn’t the creep factor in the Wyman case the significant age and generational differential ?

BadNomad · 08/05/2022 16:30

The only way it could be even close to incest is if the couple had been brought up together as brother and sister.
