The Kyiv Independent, [11/05/2022 17:16]
501 National Guard servicemen killed by Russia's war.

Oleksii Nadtochyi, operations chief of the National Guard’s main directorate, said on May 11 that 1,697 of their servicemen were injured. The National Guard is a military force that is part of the Internal Affairs Ministry.

Ukraine doesn’t disclose its general combat losses. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, up to 3,000 Ukrainian troops were killed, and up to 10,000 were wounded as of mid-April.

Are the round-up posts actually 1) useful and 2) readable at all? Otherwise I'll stop

They are useful and many are readable.
Even crossed out they are readable.
Thank you very much for them.

Checking again on the paragraph issue. I've manually upgraded the app - even though my phone is set to automatic updates while on wifi. Confused

So, this should be a new paragraph, having just hit "enter" twice and in the preview box, there is indeed a gap between the two paragraphs.

(Another new paragraph) Sorry for spamming the thread but it's the only way of checking! Wink

prettybird · 11/05/2022 16:49

....so the problem is not solved. At least on the app.

Going to trying logging out and logging in again Hmm

prettybird · 11/05/2022 16:54

Trying again, after logging out and in again fir the 2nd time (....sigh Angry)

New paragraph, having pressed return twice.

(Another new paragraph). Am going to take a screenshot to demonstrate that it's working while drafting. It will be interesting to see if it looks the same Wink

Looks the same to me.

@elephantmarchingin - that's just the kind of response Putin is likely hoping for. We can't kowtow to his thuggery by running scared. We have to make a stand. There's more than Ukraine at stake here.

prettybird · 11/05/2022 17:14

@jgw1 - paragraphs still didn't appear on the app ConfusedSad

Yes and yes!

I really, really appreciate them and should have said so before. The Cake of gratitude to you!

I wish the crossings out would stop, but I slog through that anyway because your round-ups are so useful!

Throwawaytoday · 11/05/2022 17:20

I've got a few thoughts.

Though it might piss Putin off a bit, he's got no legitimate reason to complain that the UK has signed a deal with Sweden, and may with Finland... after all, he's not planning on attacking them (is he?) so it shouldn't rationally make any difference to him... at least not one he can complain about in an open forum.

And as much as our Home Office and MOD updates give me the shivers, we have to be 100% transparent about what we're supplying to Ukraine, and our position on the war - because if we are suspected of hiding the truth, that'll land us in a much more incendiary position. But remember, nothing that any government posts right now is pure fact. It's all what they want the people, and the 'enemy' to know.

They appear ok on my web browser, both times.

Ijsbear · 11/05/2022 17:21

I'll keep going! :)

Natsku · 11/05/2022 17:21

Yeah the crossings out aren't that bad, still readable

Natsku · 11/05/2022 17:25

Just waiting for the press conference to start now. Agree that UK making these deals with Finland and Sweden should not logically be a provocation but of course Putin is provoked by his own shadow...
UK might well stand to benefit from help with cyber and hybrid attacks so not even a one-sided deal.

Ijsbear · 11/05/2022 17:36

Interesting article about Snake Island and the fighting over it.

www.navalnews.com/naval-news/2022/05/how-the-russian-navy-is-losing-dominance-the-curse-of-snake-island/

It seems the Russians want it for both practical and symbolic reasons but the Ukrainians are keeping it fairly clear at this moment.

Natsku · 11/05/2022 17:48

Boris confirmed British boots on the ground if Finland gets attacked. Significant, and reassuring.

YorkshireLondonMiss · 11/05/2022 17:49

@Natsku im watching now, they’ve just asked the Q to boris why we have sent the most aid to Ukraine but haven’t been making an effort to look after people suffering in our own country. I’ll be interested to see his response to that.

Natsku · 11/05/2022 17:51

Probably just waffle in response to that

Interesting thread:

"Pay close attention to the Rail line at the upper right on this map.🧵

Ukraine cutting it by occupation, or by artillery fire will, cause a huge "Stalingrad side-step" in terms of the Russian Army having to use more eastern rail lines to supply the Donbas offensive."

YorkshireLondonMiss · 11/05/2022 17:54

@Natsku yes it was

Natsku · 11/05/2022 17:55

Yup, pure waffle!

DuncinToffee · 11/05/2022 17:58

Kyiv Independent

Czech Republic recognizes Russia's actions in Ukraine as genocide.

Yevhen Perebyinis, Ukraine’s ambassador to the Czech Republic, said that the Czech Republic Senate adopted a resolution that also supports supplying weapons to Ukraine and granting it the EU candidate status.

No us creating this alliance was. Think about it. If he now carries through with his threats we have to go in that means he can retaliate against us and not invoke article 5

Sorry I don't get the point you're making. Are you suggesting Britain cowers behind the sofa while her friends and allies are destroyed by Putin?

elephantmarchingin · 11/05/2022 18:11

@BringBackCoffeeCreams I'm saying that Boris was silly to do it without other countries doing the same
