He's highly regarded generally @FrenchBoule. He was one of the co-founders of Bellingcat which is an organisation that works to establish the facts of what's happened in controversial cases and they go to a lot of trouble to find out as many facts as they can, though they don't claim to be infallible.

Iirc it was Grozev or another of Bellingcat who was in on the telephone call where Navalny tricked an FSB officer into admitting that the FSB had tried to use Novichok to kill him. It was quite a long call (20 - 30 mins iirc). It seems that particular officer and all his family have disappeared into thin air since. No trace of them at all and Bellingcat are quite good at finding out where people are.

Double post from ISW
For May 7th:

Key Takeaways

Russian forces destroyed several bridges to slow Ukrainian forces and may be conducting a limited withdrawal northeast of Kharkiv city in the face of the successful Ukrainian counteroffensive.

Ukrainian forces are making significant progress around Kharkiv and will likely advance to the Russian border in the coming days.

Ukrainian forces continued to repel Russian advances toward Barvinvoke and Russian forces have likely abandoned efforts to drive directly southeast toward Slovyansk. ISW cannot confirm claims of a Ukrainian counteroffensive toward Izyum at this time.

Russian forces claimed to capture Popasna on May 7 but remain largely stalled in eastern Ukraine.

The Ukrainian government confirmed the last remaining civilians trapped in the Azovstal plant evacuated on May 7, though the remaining Ukrainian defenders appear unlikely to surrender. ISW will likely be unable to report any discrete changes in control of terrain until Russian forces capture the plant as a whole due to the poor information environment in Mariupol.

By all indications, Russian forces will announce the creation of a Kherson People’s Republic or possibly forcibly annex Kherson Oblast in the coming weeks to cement its occupation administration and attempt to permanently strip these territories from Ukraine.

Russian forces continued to target Odesa with cruise missile strikes and conduct false-flag attacks in Transnistria over the past several days.

For May 8th

May 8, 4:00 pm ET

Russian forces did not make any significant advances on any axis of advance on May 8. The Ukrainian counteroffensive northeast of Kharkiv City has likely forced Russian troops to redeploy to Kharkiv instead of reinforcing stalled Russian offensive operations elsewhere in eastern Ukraine. Russian forces are continuing their attempt to reach the administrative borders of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts but have not made substantial territorial gains since securing Popasna on May 7.

Key Takeaways

Russian forces are likely amassing in Belgorod to reinforce Russian efforts in northern Kharkiv to prevent the ongoing Ukrainian counteroffensive from pushing closer to the Ukraine-Russia border.

Russian forces near Izyum focused on regrouping, replenishing, and reconnoitering Ukrainian positions in order to continue advances to the southwest and southeast of Izyum.

Russian forces continued their ground attacks to drive to the borders of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts but did not make any territorial gains

Russian troops continued to assault the Azovstal Steel Plant and advanced efforts to economically integrate occupied Mariupol into the wider Russian economy.

Russian troops may be preparing for a renewed offensive on the Southern Axis but are unlikely to be successful in this endeavor.

FrenchBoule · 08/05/2022 23:28

@Ijsbear apparently there’s interesting interview with the guy on YT. It’s in Russian though🙄 I need to find out how to switch the translation.Worth checking him on twitter?
He claims that Russia might have used about 80% of missiles and there’s no more coming.

As from Poland- people from Kaliningrad want to be able to cross the borders again to do some shopping- apparently long trip by boat to St Petersburg is a bit inconvenient and supplies are getting quite limited

Ijsbear · 08/05/2022 23:34

YT?

He's quite easy to find on Twitter. He and Euromaiden are two good ones and the Kyivindependent.

RedToothBrush gave a list of good people to follow a while back, maybe if you PM her she'll send it.

At this point I'm not at all worried about tomorrow. I think there will be lots of scary bluster and well, when Putin and Lavrov's lips are moving, you know they're bullshitting. I don't have any faith at all in what they say so far, there has been so much deception and so many lies.

MMBaranova · 08/05/2022 23:36

Yes Grozev is worth reading. He's part of Bellingcat.

ScrollingLeaves: the original video for Stina came out 3 days before EuroMaydan started. It shows a before of people innocently gathering for an Okean Elzy concert, concert footage and beautiful landmark buildings of Ukraine showing one country from Lviv to Donetsk on the signs. Then things changed and at one point OE performed live at Maydan.

TiddyTidTwo · 08/05/2022 23:37

I've had 🍷fuck Russia, SLAVA Ukraini

Lost my glasses too so it's all blurry 😂

Nick Reeves AT nickreeves9876 (similar to Fionna)

Max Fras AT MaxFras and Yaroslav Trofimov AT yarotrof are also occasionally exceptionally good.

Ijsbear · 08/05/2022 23:42

The Institute for the Study of War gives good measured military analyses.

If you have Telegram UkraineNOW is very good. It used to be the Ukraine national covid info channel, now its the war info channel.

Darth Putin has a silly sense of humour that leavens the seriousness which I like

ScrollingLeaves · 08/05/2022 23:50

@MMBaranova
Thank you for that video of the Okean Elzy concert showing happy people at the concert and all the special landmarks of Ukraine 3 days before EuroMayden started.
It must be a testament to so much.

Looking at the crowds it is awful to think what will have happened to many of them now.

TiddyTidTwo · 09/05/2022 00:08

Found glasses, and more wine.

I've been reminiscing today about our lives and how it hasn't really moved on since ww2. Here we are again except with modern tech we know a whole lot more as it happens.

I still can't get my head around what's happening in Ukraine and how it's completely opened my eyes at how backward some of Europe still is.

One thing I AM going to do is visit Ukraine, poland and the Baltic states. Not Spain or Turkey for a holiday. This war has brought into my world who is important

MMBaranova · 09/05/2022 00:26

Putin and female leaders.

Back in 2008 when Yuila Tymoshenko was PM she had a big meeting with Putin. Her peasant braids phase.

Ukraine Invasion: Part 24
MMBaranova · 09/05/2022 00:27

A lot of the focus in this video is over Ukraine eventually joining NATO (this is 2008). Putin says no and Tymoshenko says the people would have a vote.

MMBaranova · 09/05/2022 00:29

SP: Yulia. It's late.

TiddyTidTwo · 09/05/2022 02:38

"This attack is yet another reminder that in this war, as in so many other conflicts, it is civilians that pay the highest price,” the statement said.

“Civilians and civilian infrastructure must always be spared in times of war.”

UN

fuck off. Are we paying for this piss shit to be spoken?

If you feel brave add the Balkans to your list.

I've been to the Baltics and Poland. Lovely countries. Utterly fascinating. The people are wonderful and they are affordable. I do recommend. I've definitely had worse holidays in places on the holiday trail. All are easy to do for short city breaks, if nothing else.

Ukraine was on our 'to do' list then DS came along and we didn't think it a good idea when he was really small. Then covid happened. I think if things hadn't gone wrong we would have visited in the next couple of years. Now its definitely on my bucket list, though unfortunately a few years down the road...

Natsku · 09/05/2022 08:04

Just saw on twitter Putin arriving at the victory parade so sadly he's not dead

RedToothBrush · 09/05/2022 08:07

Wrongkindofovercoat · 08/05/2022 21:57

I’m not trying to worry anyone at all because I a
a huge worrier, but how
is everyone feeling of tomorrow I’m shitting my pants he will escalate with nukes against us 😭 can’t work out if I’m being hysterical 🤷‍♀️

I thought all those nukes will be in a big parade tomorrow, showing off how many and how biggly they are. Or do they use duds for the parade ? and if they use duds what else might be duds ? I wonder what the going rate is for dressing up in military uniform in Moscow on the 9th of May 2022 is ?

Honestly, I'm calm over today. I was worried. I'm calm now. The rhetoric hasn't suddenly spun up, neither are there hints / leakd from the West over intel on nukes. I find this very reassuring.

If nukes are on parade they aren't pointing at people and it kind of shows how much its pr and threats because they don't have anything else left and this doesn't mean they are functional.

Mariupol is a different story... As are the concerns over a conventional bombing blitz today in Ukraine.

But nukes. No. Not worried.

Natsku · 09/05/2022 08:08

The Baltics are lovely, I'm planning on going to Estonia for our holiday next year (my union has holiday cottages there, by the sea, just got to get my name down quickly enough to snag one!). Ukraine is on my list for the future now.

RedToothBrush · 09/05/2022 08:09

Phillips P OBrien AT PhillipsPObrien
Ukraine has now captured 232 Russian tanks (many of which they can reuse). The British Army only has 224 tanks operational in all of its armored regiments.

It does amuse me that one of the biggest suppliers of military equipment to Ukraine is Russia...

RedToothBrush · 09/05/2022 08:12

Emma Burrows AT EJBurrows
About as far away from Ukraine as it is possible to get, beyond Japan, Russians are already celebrating Victory Day. This year there are lots of Z signs in support of Putin’s war & some towns have no military equipment because it is being used for the Moscow parade/war in Ukraine

No equipment...

MagicFox · 09/05/2022 08:18

My concern is that the rhetoric that is being stepped up is about the need for de-Nazification of Europe at large.

OP posts:
MagicFox · 09/05/2022 08:20

And the speech is already going that way. NATO Nazi's using Ukraine to attack Russia

OP posts:
MagicFox · 09/05/2022 08:20

He's framing it as a war with NATO and Europe at large I think

OP posts:
prettybird · 09/05/2022 08:25

Interesting that Putin has just used the expression "war zone". Hmm

elephantmarchingin · 09/05/2022 08:28

So no mention of nuclear
